25TH ANNIVERSARY - FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL
Built in 1961 to prevent East Berliners fleeing to the West, the Berlin Wall became the symbol of the divide between communism and democracy. On 9 November 1989, the Berlin Wall was finally smashed down after East German government officials announced that the borders between East and West Germany were now open.

Luke Smedley, head of content operations, AP Archive, is participating in a panel at the Restoration & Archive Forum on Tuesday September 2 at BFI South Bank, London. The one day event looks at the latest technological innovations and industry trends in restoration and archive within the film and television sector. Smedley forms part of a panel discussion looking at ‘the most effective maintenance of the modern broadcast archive in an increasingly transmedia and multiplatform ecology’. He is joined in the session by panelists from the BBC, Channel 4 and Cambridge Imaging Systems.
