STORYLINE:

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles married on Saturday at the 17th century Guildhall in the royal town of Windsor, capping a decades-long romance that survived scrutiny, scandal and the prince's first marriage to Princess Diana.

Emerging arm-and-arm from the ceremony, the couple waved to the cheering crowd but there was no public kiss or embrace.

The bride wore an oyster-coloured silk coat with a herringbone stitch, a matching chiffon dress and a straw, lace and feathered hat.

Instead of the military uniform he wore at his first wedding, Charles was in formal morning wear, and the simplicity of the wedding at the brick-and-marble town hall stood in contrast to the pomp and grandeur of the first royal nuptials in St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

Excited cheers greeted Charles' sons Prince William and Prince Harry when the formally attired young men arrived at the Guildhall. William smiled at the crowd, and Harry waved shyly.

Lining the streets of this handsome old town - buffed to a royal luster for the wedding - the crowds waited in chilly sunshine for the nuptials, postponed a day for the pope's funeral.

The couple went later to St. George's Chapel where the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams led a blessing ceremony to be followed by a reception given by the queen.

Camilla takes on Diana's previous status as Princess of Wales but she plans to defer to public sentiment by avoiding using the title and will instead be known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

The wedding represents a break in tradition for the 50-something divorcees who were married in a civil ceremony the queen did not attend.

Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall visited on Tuesday Jordan Museum with officials and diplomats at a centenary celebration of relations between Amman and London.

The event was also to celebrate centenary year of Jordan's founding.

In his speech, Prince Charles said he felt a friendship between the U.K. and Jordan "in the most personal of ways.

"Jordan has always been a part of my life," he said.

"Celebrating the centenary year of Jordan's founding means more to us than I can possibly say." Prince Charles added.

The British Embassy said last month that the visit was aimed at shoring up a century of "strong bilateral relations."

It is putting an emphasis on combating climate change in the wake of the Glasgow conference, as well as interfaith tolerance.

Jordan was established as an emirate and British protectorate in 1921 before gaining full independence in 1946. The countries have close diplomatic and security relations.

"All I can say is to be here with you this year is especially significant. And after the sorrow, separation and grief which COVID-19 has brought us all. It is with that special joy of being once again among friends that we have begun our first overseas tour, the ambassador was saying in nearly two years, and that we should do so here in Jordan, to join you in celebrating the centenary year of Jordan's founding, means more to us than I can possibly say."

In this regard, ladies and gentlemen, his majesty's role as custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem is a vital element in the search for peace in the region."

17. SOUNDBITE (English), Prince Charles, heir to the British throne:

"I need hardly say that we must place a priority as we have never done before on protection of our environment. I know that Jordan is one of the countries hardest hit by water scarcity, feels the consequences of climate change keenly, and it also has a role to play in mitigating them. I know, some of you may not have recently attended the COP26 climate summit in the United Kingdom, where some important steps were taken to limit the global rise in temperatures. Success will require, of course, the sustained commitment of the global community to ensure that countries like Jordan have the support they need to find ways of adapting somehow to a changing climate."

19. SOUNDBITE (English) Prince Charles, heir to the British throne:

Morrison told world leaders and delegates on Monday that his country would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 35 percent by 2030 – exceeding Australia's Nationally Determined Contribution by 9 points.

However, Morrison's National Party refused to increase Australia's 2030 target of decreasing emissions between 26 and 28 percent from 2005 levels.

His government also unveiled an additional $500 million for international climate funding.

French President Emmanuel Macron met with British heir to the throne Prince Charles at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgoew on Monday.

The pair were hosting a meeting on concrete measures that need to be taken in order to put into place the so-called Great Green Wall initiative in Africa.

The ambitious plan seeks to take on the impact of climate change in the belt along the Sahel region with a vast agricultural and ecological program which will span the entire width of the continent.

Prince Charles told attendees the Great Green Wall initiative "offers a precious opportunity to restore land, forest and biodiversity while also addressing the social, economic, and environmental impact of land degradation and desertification."

Macron echoed the prince's words, stating the scheme was a chance to tackle climate change but also poverty and terrorism.

"Our objective, ladies and gentlemen, is to transform the lives and livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers, land owners and fishermen, along with rural and coastal communities all around the world. To achieve this, we should not be afraid to reorientate our long standing incentive structures. In this way, we can create a more sustainable world while maintaining food security and employment. These challenges are particularly well understood in Africa to whom the United Kingdom will proudly pass the baton to host COP27."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Prince Charles, Britain's Prince of Wales:

"Bearing in mind that there are some 700 million hectares of degraded land in Africa alone, the Great Green Wall initiative offers a precious opportunity to restore land, forest and biodiversity while also addressing the social, economic, and environmental impact of land degradation and desertification. It can also offer a model for the vital role of sustainable supply chains."

9. Mid of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen talking with attendee

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Ursula von der Leyen, President of European Commission:

"You know better than all of us around 45% of Africa's land is impacted by desertification. So fighting land degradation is thus key to ensure food security. It is about protecting the livelihood of millions of people. The Great Green Wall shows how climate action combines local action and global action. It is an initiative that should encourage us all to make this a success of COP26. Thank you."

Throughout the Royal Tour of the Western Isles there was a great welcome. At Lochmaddy the Queen and the Duke had a good look, at the most important local occupations, the fishing industry. That other major industry of the islands (the manufacture of their famous tweeds) also received close royal attention. At Stornoway the Duke of Cornwall and Princess Anne made their own inspection of the lighthouse at Tiumpan Head. Meanwhile, Thurso's new lifeboat was at Scrabster Harbour, for her naming, by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Finally, 'Britannia' arrived at Leith, at the end of the Royal Visit to the Western Isles.

A real Scottish welcome awaited the Queen and Prince Philip as they arrived at Fort William, after a week's cruise aboard "Britannia", among the Western Isles. Lord MacDonald (Lord Lieutenant of Inverness-shire) received Her Majesty. Stepping ashore, from another barge, came Princess Anne and the Prince of Wales. The Royal Family were on their way to a holiday at Balmoral. And they set off on a drive to Gairlochy. At the jetty, children presented Scottish walking sticks to the young Prince and Princess. Then, with their parents, they went off in a launch for a trip along the Caledonian Canal.
