"Well, we moved into our apartment on Saturday and we found out the news as we were going to Home Depot to pick up our stuff hang up our new shelving units and we were like, 'Why is everybody here?' And everyone was like, 'Oh there is a hurricane coming'."

"We have enough food and water to ride out days of no electricity and we have hurricane proof housing. It's a brand new built building with new cement."

"Well, very concerned, we don't do this kind of preparation. You are looking at storm shutters on top of hurricane rated glass. That's glass rated for 130 mph, Dade County approved hurricane glass with storm shutters put on top of that."

"I would think it's going to look like a war zone on Monday and that's very very sad but the shock that even the trees that survive this thing will be few I would think."

With thousands of people evacuating the coasts of Florida and Georgia on Friday ahead of Hurricane Irma, some Miami Beach residents are counting on their storm-resistant structures and are staying.

Kaydee Gavron just moved to the South Beach area, and plans to ride out the storm in her house that's built out of concrete.

David Wallack, owner, of Mango Tropical Cafe is staying as well, but he's adding an extra layer of protection to his business.

He's boarding up his business even though he has glass designed to withstand winds of up to 130 mph, and storm shutters.
