Hundreds of people rallied against Russian President Vladimir Putin in Brisbane on Saturday, while the G20 summit was underway.
Some of those who took to the streets were Ukrainians living in Australia, who demanded the international community impose sanctions on the Russian leader.
Some protesters accused Putin of being responsible for the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 plane in eastern Ukraine on 17 July, when 298 people died, including 38 Australian citizens and residents.
Several protesters laid on ground covered in national flags of various countries to symbolise MH17 victims.
Tensions between Australia and Russia have been simmering since the plane was shot down over an area controlled by pro-Russia separatists.
In recent days, four Russian warships have entered international waters off the northeast Australian coast to coincide with Putin's visit to Australia.
It prompted the Australian prime minister to angrily accuse Russia of trying to reclaim the "lost glories" of the Soviet Union.
