"We want to reassure all the athletes, referees and visitors that the Chinese government is confident and capable of guaranteeing the safety of the food and the other products and they can all come to China with their minds at ease."
Chinese officials said they are taking serious measures to ensure food safety during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
An official from China's General Administration of Quality Supervision told AP Television that participants and visitors to next years Games could be assured that the Chinese government is "confident and capable of guaranteeing the safety of the food."
"They can all come to China with their minds at ease," added Li Yuanping of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, during a tour of food processing plants on the outskirts of Beijing on Monday.
The quality of Chinese products has aroused international concern recently following a series of scandals involving tainted or substandard goods, including toys, food and medicine.
China began a high-profile nationwide safety campaign in August in a bid to improve its image as a safe exporter.
774 people have been arrested in the crackdown on substandard goods.
She Feng, the manager of Beijing Huadu Broiler Company, one of the factories on Monday's tour, said special emergency measures were in place for the Olympic Games in case any issues arise.
But She denied that there was a special safety standard for food for the Games, saying his company produces high quality, safe food at all times.
