This is what all the Arab countries, altogether and unilaterally, know. In all our negotiations and meetings regarding any issue that we discuss, we submit it all to the Arab countries, backed up by documents. Thus things have been mixed up between Israeli proposals, which are various, and Palestinian positions, that happens intentionally and it is really shameful."

HEADLINE: Documents show Palestinian Jerusalem offer
CAPTION: Palestinians were prepared to compromise over two of the toughest issues, Jerusalem and refugees, during peace talks in 2008, the Al-Jazeera TV channel reported Sunday, quoting from documents it said came from the talks. (Jan. 24)
(nats of protests)
PROTESTORS BURN AN ISRAELI FLAG OUTSIDE THE WEST BANK OFFICES OF THE AL-JAZEERA TELEVISION NETWORK. THEY'RE UPSET FOLLOWING AL-JAZEERA REPORTS THAT PALESTINIAN OFFICIALS WERE READY TO COMPROMISE ON TWO KEY ISSUES WITH ISRAEL.
AL JAZEERA SAYS IT OBTAINED DOCUMENTS FROM 2008 PEACE TALKS. BUT THE CURRENT AND PAST CHIEF PALESTINIAN NEGOTIATORS SAY MANY PARTS OF THE DOCUMENTS WERE FAKED.
(Arabic/ Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian President:
"What is meant is to mix things up. I have seen what the TV channel broadcast, I say here expressly that we have nothing to hide. This is what all the Arab countries, altogether and unilaterally, know. In all our negotiations and meetings regarding any issue that we discuss, we submit it all to the Arab countries, backed up by documents. Thus things have been mixed up between Israeli proposals, which are various, and Palestinian positions, that happens intentionally and it is really shameful.")
PRESIDENT MAHMOUD ABBAS SAYS THE PALESTINIANS HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE. HE SAYS THE PALESTINIANS HAVE ADVISED OTHER ARAB NATIONS OF THEIR DEMANDS IN PEACE TALKS WITH ISRAEL. ABBAS GOES ON TO SAY THAT DETAILS OF THE ISRAELI PROPOSALS AND PALESTINIAN POSITIONS WERE MIXED UP.
AL-JAZEERA REPORTED THE PALESTINIANS OFFERED TO LET ISRAEL KEEP ALL BUT ONE JEWISH ENCLAVES IN EAST JERUSALEM. THE PALESTINIANS WANTED ISRAELI LAND IN RETURN. THE PALESTINIANS REPORTEDLY AGREED THAT ISRAEL WOULD TAKE 100-THOUSAND REFUGEES--DOWN FROM THE SEVERAL MILLION THAT PALESTINIANS SAY HAVE A RIGHT TO RETURN TO ISRAEL.
(Arabic/ Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman:
"This confirms that the Palestinian Authority is giving up the rights of the Palestinian people, especially their rights in Jerusalem. And this is a proof that the PA is misleading the public, therefore this scandal requires from Abu Mazen and Erekat to resign.")
THIS HAMAS SPOKESMAN SAYS THE AL JAZEERA REPORT CONFIRMS THAT THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY IS GIVING UP THE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE. THE MILITANT HAMAS PARTY OPPOSES ABBAS' FATAH PARTY.
THEN ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER, EHUD OLMERT, HAS SAID HE OFFERED THE PALESTINIANS A STATE IN THE GAZA STRIP AND ABOUT 95 PERCENT OF THE WEST BANK, WITH TERRITORIAL SWAPS.
(sot: Arie Eldad, Israeli Knesset member)
"This is not a territorial conflict, in a territorial conflict you can solve by division of the land, partition of the land, but if the conflict is a religious war, ideological clash, you don't cure it by division of the land and that's the true nature of the conflict."
AL-JAZEERA CLAIMS IT HAS 16-HUNDRED LEAKED DOCUMENTS FROM PEACE TALKS OVER THE PAST DECADE. THE NETWORK SAYS THE REPORT IT AIRED SUNDAY WAS THE FIRST OF FOUR.
