4. SOUNDBITE (English) Brad Pitt, actor:
"We have no date. We actually really truly have no date, it is just something that made sense to us."
(Reporter: "So it's just a rumour?")
Pitt: "Certainly date-wise, absolute rumour. And I am still hoping that we have figured out our marriage equality in the States before then."
5. Cutaway Cannes Film Festival sign
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Brad Pitt, actor:
"You know first and foremost I want to, Dede and I have focused on films that might have a difficult time getting made and to help those get made and to get behind filmmakers like Andrew who we believe very strongly in and have great admiration for. So that would be the first impetus but we are also looking for stories that say something about our time and who we are and I certainly felt upon reading this that this was making those comments, a commentary. Again we were certainly at the apex of the mortgage loan debacle and people were losing homes right and left and it was forefront on the newspapers as our economy still is. So this commentary and the way that it is done in this film, you believe that you are watching a gangster film, or I felt that I was reading a gangster film and it wasn't until the very end that things coalesced for me as far as the direction that the film was pointing to overall. That this microcosm was saying something about the greater/macro world."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Andrew Dominik, director and Brad Pitt, actor:
Dominik: "The movie is basically telling people to have good mental health. It's not to blindly seek pleasure and not to indulge in too much self punishment. And if you do that in sort of cut-throat capitalist Darwinist environment you are going to do fine."
Pitt: "I never knew that."
9. Wide shot press conference
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Ray Liotta, actor:
"I have no idea what they are all talking about. I just do this, I just want to play pretend. That's it, that's what I like about this. As far as all the heady questions and things like the ids and the yids and whatever it is, that's great for him to have because you know I am just here to service the story, what he wants to do. So I don't...sounds like a lot of work to go the other way."
11. Wide shot end of press conference
PITT SAYS NO WEDDING DATE YET
Brad Pitt said that he and his partner, Angelina Jolie had not set a date for their wedding when speaking on Tuesday (22 MAY 2012) at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Hollywood star was put on the spot during a press conference for his latest film, "Killing Them Softly," which is showing in competition at this year's event.
After revealing that Jolie wasn't with him at the festival he then talked about their engagement.
"We actually really truly have no date," said Pitt. "it is just something that made sense to us."
And as for the speculation that it would be August when the two of them wed he said that was "absolute rumour."
Then he added: "I am still hoping that we have figured out our marriage equality in the States before then."
The 48-year-old actor is at the French film festival with latest film offering - a hardboiled crime story featuring heavy doses of President Barack Obama and a backdrop of the economic crisis.
Pitt stars in and produced the feature which is a stylized adaptation of a George V. Higgins novel.
Directed by Andrew Dominik, the film is filled with speeches of Obama and former President George W. Bush to give the production a broader financial commentary on top of a story of violent, back-stabbing criminals.
Pitt said the movie was conceived "at the apex of the mortgage loan debacle," which he called "criminal."
"So this commentary and the way that it is done in this film, you believe that you are watching a gangster film, or I felt that I was reading a gangster film and it wasn't until the very end when things coalesced for me as far as the direction of what the film was pointing to overall. That this microcosm was saying something about the greater/macro world."
During the press conference, while Pitt and his director tackled questions on the film's sub plots, co-star Ray Liotta said what attracted him to the film was a lot simpler.
"I have no idea what they are all talking about.," he joked. "I just do this, I just want to play pretend. That's what I like about this. As far as all the heady questions and things like the ids and the yids and whatever it is, that's great for him to have because you know I am just here to service the story, what he wants to do. Sounds like a lot of work to go the other way."
The Cannes Film Festival premiere of "Killing Them Softly" takes place on Tuesday night.
