The Spice Girls have taken Cannes by storm - when Mel B, Mel C, Geri, Victoria and Emma arrived, the main promenade, the Croisette, ground to a standstill for several hours.
Their popularity on the Continent is such that television channels fought over the right to broadcast their concert on the beach on Friday night.
In the last 12 months the Spice Girls have had Number One hits in 32 countries.
Their album, Spice, has sold more than 12 million copies.
Now they have decided to turn their talents to the movies.
Filming begins in London in June for the film based on a hectic week in the lives of Britain's most famous girl band.
Withnail and I actor Richard E Grant will play the girls' neurotic band manager.
It will be directed by Bob Spiers, who worked on the television hit series "Absolutely Fabulous" and "The Comic Strip Presents".
According to its makers, Polygram Filmed Entertainment, it will "capture all the crazy situations and wacky people behind the scenes. The film will be full of music, energy, comedy and, most of all, all five of the gorgeous and very independent women".
The singers said they wanted to show people the sort of people they were as well as making an entertaining, fun movie.
Scary Spice - "And it's going to properly show the world what we're... Damn - what we're like.
Baby Spice - "What we're about, it's going to be fun, you know love, adventure, loads of things."
Scary Spice - "Sauciness, that's my bit"
Baby Spice - "Naughty! "
Ginger Spice - "It is a parody of ourselves, we are basically taking the "Mickey" (making fun) out of ourselves, it is also a celebration of London, the nineties, you'll also see what the Spice Girls are really like, what we really say and do on many different levels, you know you will see our inner and outer struggles, it is a dedication to our fans the media...
Scary Spice - "The Media, The Media...! "
Ginger Spice - "And also this film, whether you like the Spice Girls or not, is going to operate on many, many levels. It is going to be very entertaining."
