1. SOUNDBITE (French) Francois Hollande, French President:
"I think the worst attitude would be to contest their (British voter's) choice or call into question the very foundations of the European Union. So we have to see these negotiations through to the end, all the while maintaining the principles of the European Union and notably the principles of free movement."
3. SOUNDBITE (French) Francois Hollande, French President:
"There will be elections in the United States. A (female) president will be elected (applause). But beyond what she may represent or her beliefs, know that we must no longer expect protection and defence of the European territory from the United States. Not because the United States will drift away from us or won't be our ally but because the United States will ask Europeans to defend themselves and that is our duty, our responsibility."
5. SOUNDBITE (French) Francois Hollande, French President:
"We also have need to relaunch the countries that are in surplus while the countries that are in deficit must continue to make efforts to be competitive and reduce their debt. But we also have to realise that the drive can't just come from the European Central Bank (ECB)-- a curious paradox actually. For years there were no words strong enough to denounce the politics of the European Central Bank and now we're back in their goodwill, it (the ECB) does what it can, what it must, floods us with cash flow but if the countries, if Europe doesn't take its responsibilities, there can't be growth to the point that's needed."
