Germany's 3-0 defeat by Croatia in the World Cup Quarter-finals on Saturday, sent shockwaves of despair through the bars and bierkellers of Berlin.

The German side were favourites to win the match, but after having a player sent off, they quickly conceded three goals to the Croatian side.

German fans drowned their sorrows inside the bars, but outside Croatians ignored the rain and partied in the streets.

The world cup quarter-final started well for German fans, enjoying the universal experience of cheering on their national side.

But the hopes of winning a fourth world title faded, as they were left with 10 men when its best defender Christian Woerns was sent off.

Germany's game collapsed against a team playing in its first World Cup finals.

German fans looked on despairingly as Croatia struck in three goals to win the match.

Outside, in the wet Berlin streets, Croatian fans celebrated their victory.

Traffic was stopped, flares lit and Croatian flags brandished in a display of national pride and mild disbelief.

In Frankfurt, German fans burnt their own flag in shame, as they mourned their country's dismal performance.
