Authorities in Germany said flooding had peaked in the state of Saxony on Tuesday, with the water level in the river Elbe stable at just short of 8 metres (26 feet).
In the southern German state of Bavaria, an 86-year-old man drowned after he was carried away by strong floodwaters along the River Brend, swollen by melting snow and heavy rainfall.
According to the Floodwater Centre in Dresden, the flood levels in Saxony are stable. It remains uncertain, however, when they are expected to sink.
