15. SOUNDBITE (German) Axel Klausmeier, Director of the Wall Museum at Bernauer Strasse:
"We want to explain especially to young people why the wall was built, how it was possible to keep a city separated for 28 years and why was it possible that the wall fell and under what circumstances it fell."
After more than 12 years and four million visitors, the Documentation Centre of the Berlin Wall Memorial closed its doors in October 2013.
Now, four day's ahead of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the wall, it opened again for the media on Wednesday.
The new centre shows 500 exhibits, photographs, video, objects, which illustrate Germany's separation from 1961 until 1989.
Museum director Axel Klausmeier said that the main focus of the exhibition was on the people who lived through that time.
"Here we document Germany's history from its separation and reunification in 1990. We focus on 1961, the year the wall was built and 1989 the fall of the wall. People are in our focus," Klausmeier said.
Visitors can watch historic films or listen to the interviews of eyewitnesses to the events.
The director of the wall museum said that the exhibition was made especially for young people who hadn't experienced the separation of the country.
The reopening of the museum is scheduled for November 9 - the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
