2. SOUNDBITE (English) Lt Col Jonathan Concricus, IDF spokesman:
"Last midnight the IDF foiled an attempt of the Iranian Quds Force and Shiite militias to attack Israel using killer drones. The Israeli Air Force struck targets south of Damascus belonging to the Iranian Quds Force and Shiite militia. The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani planned to launch these killer drones from Syria and attack Israel, just like he has attacked airports and oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Yemen and additional places all over the Middle East. We hold the Iranian and Syrian regimes responsible for this attempted attack. The IDF is monitoring the situation and is on high alert for various scenarios, both offensive and defensive. This Iranian attempt to attack Israel is further proof of the threat that the Iranian entrenchment in Syria poses to the security of the state of Israel and the region as a whole."
An Israeli Defense Force spokesman said on Sunday that the IDF (Israel Defense Force) had thwarted an attack of Iranian militia and Quds forces on Saturday.
The Israeli military attacked targets near Damascus late Saturday in what it said was a successful effort to thwart an imminent Iranian drone strike on Israel, stepping up an already heightened campaign against Iranian military activity in the region.
The late-night airstrike, which triggered Syrian anti-aircraft fire, appeared to be one of the most intense attacks by Israeli forces in several years of hits on Iranian targets in Syria.
IDF spokesman Lt Col Jonathan Concricus, said the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, working with allied Shiite militias, had been planning to send a number of explosives-laden attack drones into Israel.
