Thousands of pilgrims have been celebrating Easter in Jerusalem with a Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The ceremonies reach their peak on Easter Sunday and will go on for a day afterwards.
Curious onlookers, as well as priests and pilgrims, attended the Mass.
People packed into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem for the traditional Easter Saturday Mass.
As the altar boys walked in for the ceremony, hundreds of pilgrims from around the world joined together in prayer.
So far Holy Week has been peaceful, though security has been stepped up in Jerusalem and Israel after the spate of suicide bombings.
This week the Catholics celebrate Easter -- next week festivities will begin for the Greek Orthodox Easter.
