Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie talk about their new movie, Los Angeles, 6th June 2005

1. SOUNDBITE (English) Brad Pitt:
"Well it really started as a strict action film, really. I mean, let me say this, the metaphors were always there, the outline was always there but it really depended on who was telling the story and fortunately we got Doug Liman. In someone else's hands it could have very easily been just an action film, a straightforward action film. But what you see in this one, is that the action is always secondary, it's always behind, it's the backdrop for whatever is going on in the relationship, which usually is some kind of bickering or fighting and it's really well done that way."
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Angelina Jolie - with a different take on the origins of the film:
"I think what happened, strangely enough, is that we read the script and it had some action in it and really it was a relationship comedy and then I think Brad and I, being two people that love action and the stunt coordinator knowing him from 'Troy' and me from 'Tomb Raider' , the action scenes suddenly went from three days to three weeks and everything got more competitive and bigger and bigger and bigger, so it turned more into an action movie."
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Brad Pitt:
"I am quite proficient with a weapon and so is she., frighteningly so. She's a really good shot, she is."
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Angelina Jolie - on training for the dance sequence with Pitt:
"There was a few days rehearsal and it was just funny because you know, we can do stunt practice or gun training for days but brought to a dance class was kind of like 'Oh God, it's that day. It's dance class'. But it ended up being very fun and especially because of all the weapons and the story in between it but yeah it was funny."
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Brad Pitt - on filming a key action scene in his underwear:
"Actually freer, in your underwear - less constricting, greater range of movement. I think we had an advantage. I think that's why you see the great fighters, like sumo-wrestlers really need to strip down for agility."
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Pitt:
(Q: Would you consider doing a 'Mr. And Mrs. Smith' series?)
"Oh God, I don't know, I mean I have no idea. I have no idea at this point."
20. SOUNDBITE (english) Angelina Jolie:
"Um, I think (laughs) no. During the film, there was always the joke about the sequel and it was always like, 'We'll be back for the sequel!' but I can't imagine what that would be."

(Reporter: Brad, why's your hair blonde?)
"It's a good question (laughs). I woke up and got some...one of my idiotic moves."
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Jolie, on working with Brad Pitt:
"He's actually, he's a great actor and I think I underestimated. He's a really great actor and he's very focused and dedicated and works hard on the script and (crowd cheering) causes a crowd but he's great, he's amazing."

3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Angelina Jolie, Actress:
"Well I had been here years before on a film and loved the country and loved the people here. And when we found out we were pregnant and thinking about where we would want to go we thought we wanted to find a place that was, a beautiful place that our other children would enjoy. And we knew that this had so many wonderful sights and also the things to do here for them things that we wanted to show them, and places we wanted to spend time with them. And they have had an amazing adventure and have made many friends here. Our son has friends here now so that was why. And also we just love this part of the world. Our other daughter was born in Africa and so this is a special continent for us."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Angelina Jolie, Actress:
"June 20th is refugee day and absolutely, I celebrate it every year. And I say celebrate because I think refugees it's not, it is a very difficult thing to be, it's a tough thing but I celebrate refugees because they are the strongest people I have ever met and I think they are remarkable, what they go through, and the refugee families and the children, and how much they overcome. So I usually am in Washington and depending on where we can be now because of travel restrictions and the new baby but I may be able to make it to Washington, if not I'll be delivering a statement from Los Angeles. But just a statement of hope and I hope that people stay focussed on all the refugees in the world and hope that they continue to give them to the aid and support that they need."
6. Pan Brad Pitt to Angelina Jolie
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Angelina Jolie, Actress:
"We had somebody that was working with us to go to the day hospitals and to see what hey were missing, what might be useful. We wanted it to be a practical donation, it wasn't just an idea of money, but to understand what the doctors were needing, or requesting and what the patients were requesting, so I think with the people we have worked with and the local people here we have been able to make some very practical decisions and do some very substantial things."
