LEADIN:
The 2018 World Cup might seem far away, but the countdown has already started for dedicated football fans.
Tomorrow (Friday) marks 1000 days until the tournament begins in Russia.
Young players are hoping Algeria beats its 2014 World Cup success in Brazil and go as far as lifting the golden trophy.
Keeping their eyes on the ball.
These young players are hoping they will one day make it to the top of the beautiful game.
They attend the Parabou Football Academy where 63 young Algerians spend their days training and practising on the pitch.
Linked to the Parabou Football Club, a second division club in the country, the academy has been making quite a name for itself since it opened its doors in 2007.
Some players have been picked to play in European teams, while the country's Olympic team boasts several Parabou alumni.
Bouab Hadj hopes to one day play professionally and perhaps even make it to his country's national side.
"The World Cup is the dream for every football player here in Algeria. We all are watching all the matches. And we can see some very good players on TV".
The National Algerian team is well supported here.
Coach Aiche Kamel views the game as sacred.
"We do not have so many sports here in Algeria. It's not the only thing that attracts young people here but it's like a tradition to us (to play football) in Algeria forever actually. And when a baby boy is born we always say that he learnt how to play in his mother's belly."
Algeria got down to the final 16 at last year's World Cup in Brazil.
They were beaten 2-1 by Germany in the knock-out rounds, the first time the country had gone that far.
It's given the footballing mad country something to be proud of.
"I think it's the best team we've ever had. The best generation. And this is since a while actually. We had the 1982 team who did a great job at the Word Cup in Spain in 1982, it's the best team we had since now," explains Kamel.
All of the players hope to see their team going forward in 2018 in Russia.
And some are willing to bet on Algeria lifting the trophy.
"Of course we hope that this next World Cup will be a great one for Algeria," says Riad Belayed.
"And maybe we can win it, why not?"
