The 49-year-old's body was found in her Manhattan apartment on Monday, hanging from a doorknob.
A law enforcement official says no note was found and there is no sign of foul play.
Scott and Mick Jagger were a longtime couple. A spokesman for the Rolling Stones singer says Jagger is "completely shocked and devastated by the news."
Scott founded her own high-end clothing label in 2006 and recently created a more affordable line for Banana Republic.
On the red carpet, she styled big name stars like Oprah Winfrey, Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.
