"At 17:21:35 pm, at the place where the Boeing (airplane) was falling apart, a new mark showing a new object appeared. This air object was observed steadily by the radio-location posts "Ust-Donetsk" and "Buturinskaya" for four minutes. The air-controller requesting the characteristics of the newly-appeared object could not get data of its parameters because most likely an aircraft of the second type of identification system was not equipped like military crafts usually do."

The Russian Defence Ministry on Monday showed photos they said proved that Ukrainian surface-to-air systems were operating in the area at the time when the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine.

Russian officials also said they had evidence that a Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jet had flown "between 3 to 5 kilometres (2 to 3 miles)" from the Malaysia Airlines jet.

"(The plane) is armed with air-to-air R-60 rockets, which can hit a target from a distance of up to 12 kilometres (7 miles) and guaranteed within 5 kilometres (3 miles)," said the chief of Russia's General staff, Andrei Kartopolov.

The defence ministry officials insisted that Russia had not given the rebels any surface-to-air missiles and added they have no evidence that any missiles were launched at all.

The Russian officials also asked the United States to share any satellite images of the launch.
