At least 1,000 people attended a candlelit vigil on Thursday night near Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida where more than 17 people were killed in a shooting.
Mourners held candles and openly sobbed as the victims' names were read aloud.
19-year-old Nikolas Cruz has been accused of carrying out the shootings on Wednesday, he had been kicked out of the school although police have not disclosed any specific motive for the murders.
Wednesday's shooting was the 17th incident of gunfire at a US school this year.
Of the 17 incidents, one involved a suicide, two involved active shooters who killed students, two involved people killed in arguments and three involved people who were shot but survived.
Nine involved no injuries at all.
