Palestine and the United Arab Emirates prepare for for their World Cup qualifier.

SCRIPTING INFORMATION:

The Palestine national football team are preparing to host their first ever World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, as their team takes on the United Arab Emirates in the first in a series of high-profile matches in the West Bank.

The UAE national team arrived in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday (6th September) to play a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Palestine.

The match will take place at the Faisal Al Husseini Stadium in the West Bank town of Al Ram on Tuesday, the first competitive tie to be played by the Palestine senior national side in their homeland.

On Monday, The UAE conducted a training session at the Faisal Al Husseini Stadium, which holds 12,500 fans and has an artificial-turf pitch. The match is scheduled for the following evening with a kick-off time of 1400 GMT.

Jibril Rajoub, the head of the Palestine Football Association, described the match in Group A of the Asian Zone qualifiers as "historic".

The UAE opened their qualifying campaign in June with a 1-0 victory against East Timor. They are currently third in Group A, level on three points with top-placed Palestine and second-place Saudi Arabia.

Palestine, who defeated Malaysia 6-0 also in June, have played one match more.
