From the 12th hour onward, the Ford was obviously an overwhelming victor, and by the last hour it was clear that the Ford would take first, second and third place. The MILES/HULME and MACLAREN/AMON teams were in the same lap. In the last half an hour Miles took the lead. Near the end of the lap the three Fords grouped together to pass the finishing line in a victory parade. The announcer said that Miles was the winner. Shortly after midnight in the race, Italian LUDOVICO SCARFIOTTI, in a Ferrari P - spun out with a pile up with two small French cars. An earlier crash - one of the most spectacular at Le Mans in recent years - involved the cars of two French drivers, JEAN-CLAUDE OGIER and FRANCIOS PASQUIER. Both cars were completly wrecked, one of them burned out. Odier's two broken arms were the major crash casualties.
