"I had a gig in Carawan rock bar in Taksim Square and the guy who was arranging the gig for me, when we got there we called him and he had sent me some messages on Facebook which I didn't see. And he told me, this happened today one of my friends got killed in the attack, so there is no gig and all the venue got cancelled."

Tourists in Istanbul continued enjoying their holiday on Wednesday, a day after a car bomb attack killed 11 people during the morning rush hour.

Thirty-six people were also wounded in Tuesday's blast, which involved a car bomb hitting a police vehicle.

Turkey has been hit by a series of attacks in the past year.

The outlawed rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, have targeted police and military personnel since July, when a fragile peace process between the rebels and the government collapsed.

The Islamic State group (IS) has also been blamed for a series of deadly bombings in Turkey, which is part of the US-led coalition against IS.

The PKK has waged a decades-long insurgency against the Turkish state in a conflict that has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

The group is considered an extremist organisation by Turkey and its allies.

The spike in violence has led to a sharp dip in tourism, a mainstay of the Turkish economy.
