British Prime Minister John Major's reelection bid has received an early set back with news that the Sun newspaper (Britain's biggest selling daily) is backing opposition leader Tony Blair.
The tabloid, owned by Rupert Murdoch, backed Major in the 1992 election.
The Sun declared its support for Blair in Tuesday's edition, saying Britain needs "a leader with vision, purpose and courage."
Tabloid support for Major's Conservative Party was seen as one of the key factors securing victory in the 1992 General Election.
