A wildfire that may have been touched off by a bullet continued to threaten a mountain resort area outside Los Angeles on Sunday.
Officials said the flames had already destroyed 13 homes, blackened more than 12- hundred acres and continued to burn out of control near the town of Running Springs.
The blaze broke out at a shooting range on Saturday, although it is not immediately clear if the heat of a bullet entering brush, or a bullet striking a rock, sparked the fire.
Raging fires continued to sweep through the small Californian town of Running Springs, causing the evacuation of hundreds of homes.
Firefighters did their best to battle the blaze, but managed to contain only 15 percent of the raging inferno.
High winds and low humidity was not helping the potentially catastrophic situation.
Temperatures were moderate but the increasing winds posed some concern in the San Bernardino County area, about 70 miles (117 kilometres) northeast of Los Angeles.
Firefighters got a break on Sunday however when humid, cloudy weather moved into the area.
Even so, officials could not say when to expect control or containment of the blaze.
A huge contingent of rescue workers was tackling the blaze, with five helicopters joining 12 air tankers, 88 engines and 885 firefighters.
One firefighter suffered a cut, but no other injuries were reported.
The blaze broke out at a legal shooting area on Saturday.
It was not, however, immediately clear whether the heat of a bullet entering brush on a low-humidity day, or a bullet striking a rock, sparked the fire.
