"All we are doing is saying our lives matter. We're not asking for more than somebody else is asking for. We want our children to grow up. We want to survive. We want to have the same quality of life as other folks get. And so this verdict, this verdict is a step, it's a popping of the lock to be able to get to the place where we can open the door, and really start to do the work to save lives. And so, this egregious murder that happened, we can call it murder now, this egregious murder that happened, it should not be that it has to look like that in order for us to have some type of semblance of what people call justice. This was accountability, but it's not yet justice. Justice for us is saving lives."
2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Rep. Nancy Pelsoi, Speaker of the House:
"We saw it happen and thank God the jury validated what we saw, what we saw. So, again, thank you, George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice, for being there to call out to your mom. How how heartbreaking was that? Call out for your mom, I can't breathe. But because of you and because of thousands, millions of people around the world who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice. And now we have to make sure justice prevails in the sentencing. But that's yet, that's its own procedure."
