"We have witnessed two systems of justice when we saw one that let extremists storm the United States Capitol and another that released tear gas on peaceful protesters last summer. The American people have expressed rightly outrage. We know this is unacceptable. We know we should be better than this."
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris say the mob attack on the U.S. Capitol Wednesday revealed there are "two systems of justice" in the United States.
Biden and Harris made the remarks in Wilmington, Delaware Thursday where they slammed President Donald Trump for encouraging the violent group that descended on the Capitol, resulting in destruction, chaos and four deaths.
Biden also relayed a conversation with his granddaughter about the blatant inequity in treatment by police of the Capitol rioters versus the Black Lives Matter protesters over the summer.
"No one can tell me that if that had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesting yesterday, there wouldn't have been they wouldn't have been treated very, very differently than the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol," Biden said.
"We all know that's true. And it is unacceptable, totally unacceptable," he added.
Harris followed, saying the inequality in law enforcement approach is "unacceptable."
"We have witnessed two systems of justice when we saw one that let extremists storm the U.S. Capitol yesterday, and another that released tear gas on peaceful protestors last summer," she said.
"We know we should be better than this," she added.
