US Coast Guard crews took helicopter flights over the worst-hit areas of the Florida panhandle to assess the damage from Hurricane Michael. Crew members also threw several self-locating datum marker buoys out of the helicopter to determine the flow of the storm surge.
Recovery is just barely beginning from the catastrophic destruction caused by the Category 4 hurricane that slammed ashore midweek. The storm brought high winds and floods as far north as Virginia. At least three deaths are being blamed on the storm.
