2. SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Biden, Former US Vice President:
"I appreciate the energy you showed when I got up here. Um, save it a little longer, I may need it in a few weeks. (applause) Be careful what you wish for. Be careful what you wish for."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Biden, Former US Vice President:
"I was going to stay away from this but I can't. Did you see the budget was just introduced? It cuts, it cuts 845-billion dollars, almost a trillion dollar cut in Medicare and almost a quarter trillion, 240-billion dollar cut in Medicaid. Why? Because of a tax cut for the super wealthy that created a deficit of 1.9 trillion dollars and now they gotta go make somebody pay for it. Something they gave millionaires and billionaires excessive tax breaks. And who are they asking to pay for it? Middle class families like you, the neighborhood I grew up in. Trading Medicare and Medicaid for tax breaks? How's that gonna help anybody in this room?"

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Biden, Former US Vice President:
"Today, we seem to be at each other's throats. The ugliest extremism is on the rise in this country. We saw it most vividly in Charlottesville. Mean pettiness has overtaken our politics. Sometimes it seems like we can't govern ourselves or even talk to one another. If you notice, I get criticized for saying anything nice about a Republican. Folks, that's not who we are. That isn't how we got here. We have to remember what it is that makes this nation so special. It's our core values, it's what we believe. It sounds corny but it's the American creed. I mean for real."
Former Vice President Joe Biden appeared to tease out themes of a possible 2020 presidential run Tuesday, criticizing President Donald Trump's leadership and questioning Republicans' commitment to middle class America.
Biden, a Democrat, spoke to a gathering of the International Fire Fighters Association in Washington.
He has not announced a presidential bid, but the audience waved "Run Joe, Run" signs. Biden asked them to save their energy a little longer, because "I may need it in a few weeks."
Biden repeatedly ripped into Republicans and criticized the GOP-championed tax cut signed into law by Trump, arguing they benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle class.
The former vice president also called out the "mean pettiness" of politics today, saying "that's not who we are."
