A protest outside of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Manhattan office blocked off traffic, eventually leading to several arrests Wednesday.
Protesters held signs on the street while chanting, "Andrew Cuomo, you should quit! New York needs new leadership!" joining a growing cry for the governor to step down amid mounting allegations of sexual misconduct and the mishandling of nursing home COVID deaths.
"These women have had the courage to speak up not just for themselves, but for vulnerable people. And this man refused to step down," shouted protester Jawanza James Williams, director and organizer of Vocal NY, a local grassroots organization based in Brooklyn.
Protesters said Cuomo no longer represents New Yorkers and favors the rich. They are calling for a state budget that prioritizes the working class and a growing homeless population amid the pandemic.
A small altercation with an impatient driver eventually led police to intervene and call protesters to take the sidewalk. After several attempts, police took several people into custody.
