A man has been charged in relation to the shooting that injured retired Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz.
Ortíz was at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo on Sunday night when he was shot.
The gunman, a passenger on a motorcycle, got off the bike and approached the 43-year-old retired athlete and fired a single shot at close range before escaping.
Enraged fans captured the motorcyclist and beat him bloody before handing him over to police.
A spokesman for prosecutors, Erick Montilla, said Eddy Vladimir Féliz Garcia was charged as an accomplice to an attempted murder.
Féliz Garcia is believed to be person who was driving the motorcycle carrying the gunman.
Oritz underwent surgery in Santo Domingo before being flown to Boston for further treatment and is currently recovering in intensive care.
A law-enforcement official told Associated Press on condition of anonymity, Féliz Garcia was one of several people in custody in relation to the shooting as of Tuesday afternoon.
