"Purdue Pharma has filed for bankruptcy but it's certainly not the end of its legal journey. The company makes OxyContin. It's being sued by thousands of state, local and tribal governments across the country. It announced a deal last week with about half the states, plus the local governments to settle those lawsuits. But now what happens is up to a bankruptcy judge. One of the major issues remaining for the bankruptcy judge to sort out will be whether lawsuits against the Sacklers, the family that owns the company, can move ahead in state courts."
"About half the states have not agreed to the settlement with Perdue and many of them are expected to object throughout the bankruptcy process, which could make it longer than it would be otherwise. A bankruptcy can take months or even years, even without serious objections."
