A small group of New York firefighters, dubbed "American heroes" by Israelis, have visited Jerusalem to receive awards for their bravery on September 11.
Delegates were presented with awards from the Israeli Ministry of Tourism at a special ceremony held in a hotel on Monday.
The 12-member delegation were representing members of all the emergency services involved in the immediate aftermath of the attack on New York.
Pentagon staff who survived the simultaneous attack in Washington were also present.
During their stay, the delegates will meet leaders of Israel's government, be briefed by military, police and rescue personnel and watch demonstrations by the country's anti-terrorism and emergency services.
They will also visit religious and historical sites around Jerusalem, tour a kibbutz and visit Tel Aviv and the Galilee.
Among those visiting was Lieutenant David Nadel of the New York Police Department who coordinated the arrival of cranes and construction equipment at the World Trade Centre site and getting the injured to hospital.
Sergeant Major Tony Rose, a survivor of the September 11 attack on the Pentagon, received the army soldier's medal for heroism and the purple heart for his actions.
