New York - 4 July 2020
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Rev. Al Sharpton, Civil Rights Leader:
"One of the things that came out of this pandemic so far is by the nation being locked down, couldn't go out and there was no sports, couldn't watch football, basketball, baseball. When (Ahmaud) Arbery happened, then Breonna Taylor happened, then George Floyd happened, you couldn't watch nothing else but those tapes. And young whites looking at it, and then all the whites say, wait a minute, what is this?"
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Rev. Al Sharpton, Civil Rights Leader:
"That's why I was telling you all two weeks ago (US President Donald) Trump running around talking about make America great again. Give me the date America was great for everybody. It was never great for white women, they couldn't vote in 1920. They wouldn't even let their own wives, their own mama vote. It weren't great for Blacks, it weren't great for Native American. It weren't great for immigrants. When was America great. Again suggests there was a time we were great. When was it Mr. Trump?"
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Rev. Al Sharpton, Civil Rights Leader:
"Mr. (Abraham) Lincoln, you promised that if we fought rapidly and backed the Confederates back, that we get the same rights as everybody else. I am going to the landmark where Dr. (Martin Luther) King talked about he had a dream because I still have that dream and I don't need no barbecue on the Fourth of July. It weren't me party."
