A male North American river otter pup, which was born on February 26 at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo, is being hand-reared by animal care and veterinary staff.
The Chicago Zoological Society released video of the pup taken on Monday, showing him being hand-fed by veterinary staff. The pup's mother was unable to provide him with the proper nourishment he needed, according to the zoological society.
Staff are now working to find a different home for the pup with other young otters of similar age. The zoological society reports that it is unlikely the pup's mother would accept him back as her own due to the amount of the time that they have been separated.
