1. SOUNDBITE (English) Nate Parker, director "American Skin" and Spike Lee, director – on Parker returning to the spotlight following a rape allegation from his college days that emerged three years ago:
(Reporter: "Did you have any reservations in getting back out into the spotlight?"
Nate Parker: "No. You know the reality is - you know, they say the artist's job is to reflect the times. You know my goal was to reflect the times, you know, like seeing the things that I see every day, feeling the way I feel every time I get in the car. Knowing that no matter what your title, how much money you have, in our country when you get in the car to go somewhere you're in danger."
Spike Lee: "If you're of color."
Nate Parker: "That's why I referenced both of us."
Spike Lee: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I missed it, I missed it."
Nate Parker: "No, no. no. It's a huge problem you know. And so I felt the need, you know obviously I've been away for a few years which obviously allows for a lot of thinking and wisdom. You know and I've learned a lot in the last three years. It's interesting when you're introspective and you look back as you're growing. I'm 39 now and what did I do wrong, what could of I, you know I was completely tone deaf to a lot of the situations, the climate, you know and a lot of people were hurt by that you know, and I apologize."
