During the occupation of Paris, cameraman Gaston Madru, hid a camera in a bicycle basket surrounded it with bottles and took these pictures. They show the places of entertainment which were reserved for German soldiers and life in the City.

The raising of the long and terrible siege of Leningrad was one of the greatest of all Soviet victories. The City suffered ghastly privations and continuous bombardment, but work went on despite everything. Towards the end of 1943 forces under General Vatutin captured Kiev. The people of the city greeted their liberators joyously, for they had suffered torture and massacre by the Germans.

The Houses of Parliament were one of the casualties in London's May 10th Blitz. Westminster Abbey also suffered in the conflagration. The RAF did magnificent work in destroying at least thirty-nine Nazi bombers.
