Former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage said he "expected" the Supreme Court ruling that Parliament must vote on triggering the UK's departure from the European Union.

Speaking on Tuesday outside the Houses of Parliament, Farage said he thought "every attempt is being made by the establishment to delay and dilute Brexit."

He said opposition parties may try to use the parliamentary vote to add amendments calling for a second referendum or to ensure Britain retains its status in the European single market.

The Brexit referendum result came as a shock to the global financial market, but it has stabilized following liquidity guarantees from central banks, International Monetary Fund (IMF) deputy managing director Zhu Min said Monday.

Zhu made the remarks during an exclusive interview with China Central Television on the sidelines of this year's Summer Davos Forum in north China's Tianjin municipality.

"In the short term, the market is obviously not well prepared for the outcome of the Brexit referendum. But central banks have guaranteed adequate liquidity so the market has not panicked and has stabilized," said Zhu.

He also said the impact of the geopolitical instability brought by the Brexit cannot be underestimated.

"The IMF has carried out analysis that says if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, the country's GDP might drop 1.4 percent in the next three years. If the economy doesn't go well, people show a lack of confidence, and investment reduces significantly, then the GDP could drop 5.6 percent," the economist said.

With regards to Brexit's potential effects on the Chinese economy, Zhu said that as China's exports to the UK account for only a small proportion of its overall exports, the influence on the Chinese market will be limited.

On the renminbi, Zhu said China should make efforts to continue to improve the exchange rate system and mechanisms of the currency so as to float its exchange rate based on the market.

"Since the reform in last August, the renminbi has fundamentally changed, which means it comes closer to the development of a basket of currencies. The transparency and predictability of the whole market have also improved. On condition that the macro economy is stable at the same time, people show increased confidence in the Chinese currency," he said.

The three-day Summer Davos Forum, which began on Sunday, organized an exclusive panel discussion on "After the Brexit" on its opening day, after Britain voted to leave the European Union by 51.9 percent to 48.1 percent in Thursday's referendum.

The Brexit negotiatior for the European Parliament said on Thursday that the UK deciding to leave the European Union had caused a renewal of interest in the European project.

Speaking at an event at the London School of Economics, Guy Verhofstadt said that the EU had gained popularity since the UK's referendum last year.

In a wide ranging speech on Brexit, Verhofstadt also put forward a vision of an ever closer union of remaining European Union states including the chance to elect politicians at a European level, as opposed to just nationally.

Anti-Brexit demonstrators took to the streets of London on Saturday to protest against the June referendum vote to leave the European Union (EU).

The protesters, some carrying EU flags and placards whilst others with faces painted with the EU colors, marched from Hyde Park to Parliament Square, where a debate is scheduled to be held on Monday on whether a second referendum on EU membership will be held.

An online petition has reportedly gathered more than four million signatures demanding another referendum vote.

The protesters said the nationwide referendum vote was based on a turnout of less than 75 percent and that the "leave" vote came out below 60 percent.

On June 23, 51.9 percent of people voted to leave the EU while 48.1 percent voted to stay.

Organizers of the march said they want the government to delay the triggering of Article 50, the formal process for leaving the EU, and are also calling for a greater voice in how the process of the Brexit takes place.

"We want to show that there is a very large community, thousands here today across the country, they want to have a dialogue with the government about our position in Europe, about the ability to first of all tell us what Brexit means because there doesn't seem to be a plan. The Cabinet that met the other day seem very divided on the issue. We want to understand exactly what it means, and also to make sure that they know we want to be in the heart of Europe, we want to be as close to Europe as possible, and to stop them triggering Article 50 until there is a plan," said Fabien Riggal, an organizer of the march.

Another organizer said the Brexit vote has led to a surge in hate crimes against minorities, a worrying consequence from the referendum.

"So, in the aftermath of Brexit there was a big increase in hate crimes, that people being abused in the streets. Tragically, the other week, a Polish man was killed. And there is an atmosphere that many people from different countries, people of different color, they fell threatened at the moment," said Owen Jones, another organizer of the march and a media work.

UK Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Theresa May of pursuing a "shambolic Tory Brexit" to appease non-ministerial lawmakers in the ruling Conservative party.

The comments were made during the UK parliament's weekly Prime Minister's Questions session.

Citing a UK Treasury forecast that said the country's withdrawal from the European Union would cost its economy 66 billion pounds (88 billion US dollars), Corbyn asked May whether retaining Britain's access to the European single market was a "red line" the government would not cross in its exit negotiations.

May responded by saying the government would be "ambitious" in its attempts to secure the " maximum possible access to the European market," but that it was also clear that the result of June's referendum showed the public's desire to curb EU freedom of movement.

European Union officials have often declared that single market access is co-dependent on the freedom of movement of people, and the issue has been cited as a major stumbling block in the UK's future exit talks.

"The reality is that since the Brexit vote, the trade deficit is widening, growth forecasts are being downgraded, the value of the pound is down 16 percent," Corbyn said as he asked the government to give reassurance to Britain's businesses and workers.

Signs that Britain may be headed for a "hard Brexit" have alarmed some business leaders and contributed to a slide in the pound, which has lost almost a fifth of its value against the dollar since June 23.

Opposition lawmakers - and some from May's own Conservative Party - say Parliament should be given a role in approving Britain's terms.

The government says a vote in Parliament is not required.

But in a bid to head off a Conservative revolt during Wednesday's debate, May has promised that lawmakers will get a say, as long as it "does not undermine the negotiating position of the government."

Trump linked the movement fueling his campaign to the United Kingdom's vote to leave the European Union.

Leader of the British Liberal Democrat party Tim Farron met with the European Parliament's lead Brexit negotiator, Guy Verhofstadt in Brussels on Wednesday.

The two men discussed whether or not article 50 can be revoked, according to Farron.

While Verhofstadt called for the British to show some reciprocity once Britain formally makes it's request to leave the EU, saying "We will not undo the European Union. We will not destroy it."

Farron and his political party believe the British public should be allowed to vote on another referendum once the negotiations have finished between the EU and UK.

The leader of the UK's anti-Brexit Liberal Democrats on Thursday hailed a by-election victory for his party, saying it showed that people did not vote for a "hard Brexit".

Tim Farron was speaking in Richmond, southwest London, after his party's candidate Sarah Olney won the vote.

Olney said that a range of issues were behind the vote for her party, including Brexit and opposition to the expansion of London Heathrow - the UK's biggest airport.

G20 finance ministers and central bank governors convened a two-day meeting in Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan Province on Saturday, with discussions about the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union expected to dominate proceedings.

Less than five months have passed since the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Shanghai at the end of February, but the global political and economic landscape has changed significantly.

The UK's vote to leave the EU, known as Brexit, has brought about a huge impact on the world economy, and the finance ministers, central bank governors and heads of certain international organizations who have gathered in Chengdu for the session will be aiming to reach consensus on how best to handle the situation.

Brexit's potential effects on the global economy have been illustrated by reductions in International Monetary Fund (IMF) growth forecasts.

On the day before the UK's historic vote, the IMF had been planning to raise its 2017 global economic forecast, but the referendum result prompted it to lower the projection by 0.1 percent.

The IMF expects the UK's economy to be more severely hurt, cutting its forecast for the country's 2016 economic growth rate from 1.9 percent to 1.7 percent and slashing its 2017 outlook from 2.2 percent to 1.3 percent.

It also warns that the relocation of a large part of the UK's service industry to the euro zone would deal a heavy blow to consumption and investment, leading the country's economy toward recession.

To reassure the public, HSBC and Barclays announced that they would not transfer their main businesses out of the UK in a bid to maintain its position as one of the world's financial centers.

But some other transnational corporations are adopting a wait-and-see approach.

"We might have to move, say, bits of our anti-trust practice from London to Brussels perhaps, but we'll wait and see. And I think most of the clients, particularly the financial institutions, are just waiting to see how we get through the next two months and how these negotiations start looking with our European partners," said Robert Elliott, senior partner of multinational law firm Linklaters.

Given the interruption it has caused to the economic globalization process and increasingly intimate political and economic ties, Brexit has become a landmark anti-globalization event.

It has also added more uncertainties to the commitment that G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors made in Australia two years ago to seek to lift their collective GDP growth by more than 2 percent above the current trajectory over the next five years.

G20 finance ministers and central bank governors convened a two-day meeting in Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan Province on Saturday, with discussions about the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union expected to dominate proceedings.

Less than five months have passed since the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Shanghai at the end of February, but the global political and economic landscape has changed significantly.

The UK's vote to leave the EU, known as Brexit, has brought about a huge impact on the world economy, and the finance ministers, central bank governors and heads of certain international organizations who have gathered in Chengdu for the session will be aiming to reach consensus on how best to handle the situation.

Brexit's potential effects on the global economy have been illustrated by reductions in International Monetary Fund (IMF) growth forecasts.

On the day before the UK's historic vote, the IMF had been planning to raise its 2017 global economic forecast, but the referendum result prompted it to lower the projection by 0.1 percent.

The IMF expects the UK's economy to be more severely hurt, cutting its forecast for the country's 2016 economic growth rate from 1.9 percent to 1.7 percent and slashing its 2017 outlook from 2.2 percent to 1.3 percent.

It also warns that the relocation of a large part of the UK's service industry to the euro zone would deal a heavy blow to consumption and investment, leading the country's economy toward recession.

To reassure the public, HSBC and Barclays announced that they would not transfer their main businesses out of the UK in a bid to maintain its position as one of the world's financial centers.

But some other transnational corporations are adopting a wait-and-see approach.

"We might have to move, say, bits of our anti-trust practice from London to Brussels perhaps, but we'll wait and see. And I think most of the clients, particularly the financial institutions, are just waiting to see how we get through the next two months and how these negotiations start looking with our European partners," said Robert Elliott, senior partner of multinational law firm Linklaters.

Given the interruption it has caused to the economic globalization process and increasingly intimate political and economic ties, Brexit has become a landmark anti-globalization event.

It has also added more uncertainties to the commitment that G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors made in Australia two years ago to seek to lift their collective GDP growth by more than 2 percent above the current trajectory over the next five years.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson says it is vital to continue talks in Syria and put an end to the ''carnage and bombings'' in Aleppo.

STORYLINE:

British Prime Minister Theresa May met with her Cabinet on Monday to map out a strategy for delivering Brexit as she fights to stay in power.

The session came after a weekend of speculation that she may be forced to resign to win approval of her twice-rejected Brexit deal.

Lawmakers are preparing to debate proposals for a series of votes on alternatives to May's deal, which could take control of the process away from the government.

If the U.K. Parliament approves the divorce deal May struck with the bloc, it will leave the EU on May 22. If not, the U.K. has until April 12 to tell EU leaders what it plans to do - leave without a deal, cancel Brexit or chart a new path.

May hopes to bring her twice-rejected divorce deal back to Parliament for a third vote this week. But she stands little chance of getting it approved unless she can win over Brexit-backing lawmakers in her Conservative Party.

Meanwhile, pro-EU lawmakers plan to try to take control of the process out of the government's hands by holding a series of votes on alternatives to May's deal.

They hope these "indicative votes" on options, including a new EU membership referendum or a "soft Brexit" that maintains close economic ties to the bloc, can find a majority for a new path.

But any such votes wouldn't be legally binding, and May's government has so far refused to alter its Brexit "red lines."

Shadow Attorney General Shami Chakrabarti said Monday she hoped a people's vote would be "on the cards" as one of the options put before MPs this week "not because it was my preference, not because I never wanted to honor the referendum result, but because we can't go on like this, we have to break the deadlock."

Chakrabarti said a general election should take place if the House of Commons was unable to find a consensus on the way forward this week.

It was his first major speech since he left office following the Brexit vote, where the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.

British voters are deciding in a June 23 referendum on whether or not to leave the European Union with business owners, employers and analysts in disagreement as to how a so-called 'Brexit' may impact the jobs market.

Unemployment nearly across the 28-nation bloc stands at over 10 percent, almost double the UK rate.

Those in the remain camp argue that over three million jobs in the UK are linked to trade with the EU and point to massive investment from Europe into the Britain.

The EU has guaranteed workers' rights in the UK with guaranteed holiday pay, paid maternity and increased protection in the work place.

Many of UK's trade unions, major businesses and almost all the city say that a leave vote would have major negative repercussions for British workers with fears that a recession could hit wags and noting that financial services and huge players in the industrial sector would carry out on a threat to leave the UK.

Take Airbus UK, a company which employs 15,000 people, its president, Paul Kahn, says he wouldn't necessarily pull out of the UK, but long term investment would come under threat.

"The biggest issue we have with Brexit is that we just don't know what out looks like. So that's where the short-term uncertainty happens. And as soon as you create that uncertainty then that starts to affect long-term decisions. So the impact that I worry about is the long-term impact, he says.

"And that lack of investment, once the investment is made somewhere else that is it. The investment isn't going to be taken away from the other country it goes to so we will have lost out for a generation so that really becomes an issue for our children and our children's children about what sort of jobs we have, what sort of economy we have, how balanced is that economy, do we make things."

But those for Brexit say that EU regulation has hindered business, and that leaving the EU may create more jobs, as well as arguing that lower migration could push wages up.

JD Wetherspoon pub chain owner and founder Tim Martin who employs 37,500 people sees the European Union as "fundamentally undemocratic" and has been campaigning hard to leave the EU.

He donated 200,000 pounds (284,000 US dollars) to the official leave campaign and is distributing anti-remain beer mats and magazines arguing for Brexit in his 900 pubs up and down the country.

"If we have democracy, we will do really well. We will be able to sort all the other problems out and there is no reason why we can't be a more prosperous country," he says. "We will have more money because we won't be paying so much into the EU, and it will unleash great entrepreneurial forces within the country."

Not all his staff agree. Alex Papa is a 21 year old student from Rome studying international business at Birkbeck University, College of London, and has been working behind the bar at a branch JD Wetherspoon for a year. He says he is worried about a leave vote from "an economic point of view, and especially for a personal point of view."

"If I ever wanted my child or my family to come here one day in order to divide (share) their life with me, that would be impossible," he says.

Specialist in the EU job market Swati Dhingra of the London School Economics also worries about the implication of a leave vote, saying that her analysis shows that reduced trade and investment with the EU could leave to a five percent contraction in the British economy, leading to a loss of over 300-thousand jobs.

She also argues against those in the leave camp who tie UK unemployment to migration levels, the long standing view of many Brexiters, including UK Independence Party leader and EU lawmaker Nigel Farage.

"We know population growth also has increases in demand which also ends up contributing to economic growth. So what we expect from migration is a very similar kind of story which is you've got access to people who are well educated often or whose education was something you didn't contribute and now they're coming into your country. So they end up creating jobs, they end up also not taking away jobs from British workers, and the main reason is in a growing economy there is room for everybody," she says.
