The former leader of the UK Independence party and the architect of Britain's successful "Brexit" campaign appeared on stage with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Jackson, Mississippi, on Wednesday.

Trump linked the movement fueling his campaign to the United Kingdom's vote to leave the European Union.

During his speech, Trump has also labeled Hillary Clinton "a bigot", what drew loud cheers at the rally. He said his opponent Hillary Clinton and the Democrats have taken minority voter support for granted.

US President Barack Obama said on Friday the US-UK relationship will not change as a result of Britain's vote to pull out of the European Union.

Speaking at Stanford University during a discussion with entrepreneurs, Obama said he talked to UK Prime Minister Cameron and that Britain is committed to an orderly transition out of EU. He said he also spoke with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Obama said he believes the Britons' unexpected decision to leave the EU speaks "to the ongoing changes and challenges that are raised by globalisation."

Britain's chief Brexit negotiator David Davis said Friday there was no point in trying to compete with emerging economies with cheap labour after the country leaves the EU.

Speaking at a keynote address in Washington DC, Davis said post-Brexit Britain would not be engaging in a "regulatory race to the-bottom" because it would lower global standards for consumers and give lower prospects to workers.

Davis said instead that Brexit gave Britain an opportunity for a "race to the top" on quality and standards across the globe.

Davis' speech comes one day after European Union and Britain finished another round of Brexit talks and remained at loggerheads over a number of issues beyond Britain's financial commitments, including the rights of citizens in each other's areas and the Irish border.

Britain is insisting that it has no obligation to meet all the EU's financial demands while the EU says that without clarity on the bottom line, it will refuse to heed Britain's demand to quickly open talks on a future relationship which would be vital for a smooth transition once Britain leaves the EU in March 2019.

Former British foreign secretary Boris Johnson has urged Prime Minister Theresa May to use her crushing parliamentary defeat as leverage to get a better Brexit deal from European Union leaders.

In a speech on Friday, Johnson said May would be able to persuade EU leaders to substantially modify her EU withdrawal plan if she shows enough "gumption".

He described her plan as "deceased".

Extending Article 50 to delay departure would suggest an "elite conspiracy to thwart Brexit", he added.

Johnson said the scope of her historic defeat in Parliament meant EU leaders would know they have to make concessions in order to come up with an agreement that would win parliamentary approval.

He dodged a question as to whether he would support May as Conservative Party leader if she called a sudden election to try to end the Brexit stalemate.

British Chancellor Philip Hammond said the government was right to spend 4 billion pounds (5.3 billion US dollars) preparing for Brexit.

"It would have been irresponsible not to prepare for no deal so long as it was a real, possible outcome," he told British broadcaster Sky News speaking from Washington where he was attending an International Monetary Fund gathering.

"Making preparations for events we hope will not happen is an every day part of government - we prepare for all sorts of outcomes to ensure we have readiness and we can manage them and mitigate the effects of them if they arise."

Hammond clarified the 4 billion pounds (5.3 billion US dollars) included all preparations, not just those for a no-deal exit.

"Much of that money would be needed to be spent anyway in preparing us for Brexit," he said.

He also said he would have liked it if Brexit was already"done and dusted" and he regrets having to tell his colleagues they still have the issue on their agenda.

Asked about upcoming European Parliament elections, Hammond expressed hope that a deal would be passed before the ballot.

Commenting on the arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Hammond said it was now a matter for the courts to decide on his potential extradition to the United States.
