ROBERT DOWNEY JR.'S SON ARRESTED IN DRUG CASE

Actor Robert Downey, Jr. thanked authorities who arrested his 20-year-old son on Sunday (29 JUNE 2014) on suspicion of cocaine possession and said the family was determined to get him the help he needs.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Valentine said Indio Falconer Downey was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a car he was in was pulled over in West Hollywood.

Valentine says Downey was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, believed to be cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Indio Downey was later released after posting $10,250 (USD) bail and a court date was set for Aug. 29.

Two other people were in the car, but only Downey was arrested.

"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," Robert Downey, Jr., who had a series of high-profile drug-related arrests, wrote in a statement. "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We're grateful to the

Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

Indio Downey appeared in the 2005 movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which starred his father.

L'Wren Scott, a fashion designer and celebrity stylist who was Mick Jagger's girlfriend, was found dead in Manhattan of a possible suicide, a law enforcement official said on Monday.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the victim's next of kin had not yet been notified.

The official said Scott's assistant found her hanging from a doorknob at 10 a.m. (1400GMT) on Monday.

The official said no note was found and there was no sign of foul play.

A spokeswoman for Mick Jagger said the singer was "completely shocked and devastated by the news."

The Utah-born Scott had her own fashion label popular with celebrities.

She was a fixture on Jagger's arm and, at around 6-foot-3 (1.9 metres), towered over her famous boyfriend.

She founded her high-end label in 2006 and recently created a more affordable line of clothes with Banana Republic.

On the red carpet, she dressed stars such as Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie.

Just last month she cancelled her London Fashion Week show, due to reported production delays.

A paparazzo was struck and killed by a car while darting across a street after taking pictures of Justin Bieber's Ferrari when it was pulled over along a freeway in Los Angeles, police said Wednesday (2 JAN 2013.)

Bieber was not in the car at the time. The singer later said his prayers were with the family of the 29-year-old photographer who was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the accident late Tuesday afternoon.

His name was withheld by police pending notification of relatives.

"Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves," Bieber said in the statement released by Island Def Jam Music Group.

The death came about six months after another photographer was charged with reckless driving and with violating a 2010 California law that toughened punishment for those who drive dangerously in pursuit of photos for commercial gain.

However, a judge later dismissed the paparazzi law charges, saying the law was overly broad and violated First Amendment free-speech protections.

On Tuesday, a friend of Bieber's was behind the wheel of the Ferrari registered to the singer when a California Highway Patrol officer pulled it over for speeding along Interstate 405, authorities said.

"This photographer evidently had been following the white Ferrari" and when it was pulled over he stopped, parked and crossed the street to snap photos, Los Angeles police Detective Charles Walton said.

The photographer stood on a low freeway railing to shoot photographs of the traffic stop over a chain-link fence, authorities said.

"The CHP officer told him numerous times that it wasn't safe for him to be there and to return to his vehicle," Walton said.

After the officer issued the traffic ticket and the Ferrari left, the photographer began to run back across the street to his car when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander, Walton said.

The driver, a 69-year-old Los Angeles woman, had two small grandchildren in the back seat.

It was not immediately clear how fast she was going. The photographer was carried about 30 feet on the hood of her car, Walton said.

"The windshield was smashed in her car and there was glass all over the front seat" but no blood, Walton said.

The motorist was distraught after the crash. She and the children were taken away by her husband.

She was not believed to be at fault for the accident and was unlikely to be cited, police said.

"There were no sidewalks on the street there, there was no crossing place for a pedestrian, there was no reason to expect a pedestrian," Walton said.

The street also was dark and winding, he added.

"It would have been very difficult for her to see him," Walton said.

It was not immediately clear whether the photographer was a freelancer or full-time professional, although he was carrying expensive camera gear and had connections to a photo agency, Walton said.

In the previous incident, photographer Paul Raef was charged in July with reckless driving and also with violating the paparazzi law that set a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Authorities said Raef was arrested after Bieber was chased in another car on Interstate 101 at speeds up to 80 mph.

However, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas Rubinson dismissed the paparazzi law charges.

The law was prompted by the experiences of Jennifer Aniston, who provided details to a lawmaker on being unable to drive away after she was surrounded by paparazzi on Pacific Coast Highway.

Uma Thurman responded to French cosmetics giant Lancome's lawsuit against her with one of her own Friday, taking their contract dispute over the use of her name and face in an advertising campaign to federal court.

The "Kill Bill" star said in her lawsuit that Lancome Parfums et Beaute & Cie boosted its worldwide sales and enhanced its "prestige, stature and bargaining power" by helping retailers and others use her name and likeness in advertising and promotions after her contract expired.

The suit seeks $15 million (�9.7 million) in damages.

Lancome tried Wednesday to shield itself from legal action by the 38-year-old actress. Saying she had threatened litigation, the company asked a state judge to rule against her claim that her name and face were used on Canadian billboards and Asian Web sites later than the contract allowed.

Thurman's lawyer, Bertram Fields, has called Lancome's state lawsuit "a pre-emptive blow."

The dispute stems from a two-year contract Thurman and the company signed in April 2000, with an option to extend the agreement for another two years.

The contract said Thurman would be paid $5.8 million for the first two years and $3.1 million for each additional year, if the company exercised its option.

Lancome claimed the contract specifies that the company was not responsible if third parties used her name and face after the agreement lapsed.

Lancome's lawyer, Peter D. Raymond, said the company's lawsuit would take priority in court because it was filed first.

"They involve the same set of facts and issues, so you don't need both of them," he said.

The lawsuit capped a busy week for Thurman in Manhattan courts. On Wednesday, 37-year-old Jack Jordan was convicted in the state court's criminal branch of stalking and harassing her.

Other celebrities who have endorsed products for Lancome include model Carol Alt and actresses Isabella Rossellini, Juliette Binoche, Mena Suvari and Drew Barrymore.

Johnnie Cochran Junior who became a legal superstar after helping clear O.J. Simpson during a sensational murder trial, died on Tuesday at the age of 67.

Cochran died of a brain tumour at his home in Los Angeles.

In the Simpson case, Cochran turned the murder trial into an indictment of the police department, suggesting officers planted evidence in an effort to frame the former football star because he was a black celebrity.

His catch phrase in the Simpson trial, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit," would be quoted and parodied for years afterward.

It derived from a dramatic moment during which Simpson tried on a pair of bloodstained "murder gloves" to show jurors they did not fit.

Some legal experts called it the turning point in the trial.

For Cochran, Simpson's acquittal was the crowning achievement in a career notable for victories, often in cases with racial themes.

He was known for championing the causes of black defendants.

Some of them, like Simpson, were famous, but more often than not they were unknowns.

Cochran's other clients included Haitian immigrant Abner Louima, who was tortured by two New York City policemen.

He also represented Michael Jackson in his 1993 child molestation case.

After Simpson, Cochran stepped out of the criminal trial arena, concentrating instead on civil matters.

For a time, he represented high-profile athletes and music stars in contract matters.

After Simpson's acquittal, Cochran also appeared on TV talk shows, was awarded his own Court TV show, and travelled giving speeches all over the world.

Liza Minnelli's bodyguard has claimed the Oscar-winning actress made him have sex with her in order to keep his job, according to recently unsealed court documents.

The allegations are detailed in M'Hammed Soumayah's $100 million (£77 million) lawsuit against the entertainer. Minnelli's lawyers did not return calls for comment Wednesday. But in a court document, one of her lawyers said Soumayah had "commenced this action in a quick sand of untruths and misstatements" and accused him of a "shakedown" of her client.

In the lawsuit, Soumayah, 56, accused Minnelli of assault and battery, breach of contract, withholding payment for services rendered and sexual harassment.

Although the suit was filed Sept. 30 in Manhattan's state Supreme Court and sealed by Justice Barbara Kapnick, she unsealed it late Tuesday over the objections of Minnelli's lawyers.

Also Tuesday, Minnelli, 58, sued Soumayah for $250,000 (£192,648), alleging breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. The two-page filing contained no details.

In the newly unsealed court papers, Soumayah, married and the father of two, says he began working for Minnelli in 1994 and was paid $238,000 (£183,401) a year.

While working for her, Soumayah was coerced by Minnelli to have sex, his court papers say. "After many repeated attempts by Minnelli to compel (Soumayah) to have sex with her, (he) eventually succumbed," the papers say.

He also alleges she beat him "repeatedly." "Fearing loss of his lucrative job, plaintiff tolerated Minnelli's violent outbursts and did not complain about them to her or anyone else," the suit says.

Soumayah's court papers say he signed a confidentiality agreement in 2003 because he was threatened with firing if he refused. He said it was to be in effect only while he worked for the star.

In an affidavit explaining that agreement, Minnelli says: "I am not ungrateful for my celebrity status. But I think I deserve, as does everyone, some right to privacy."

The affidavit, filed in an effort to persuade the judge to keep the bodyguard's suit sealed, asks the judge to enforce the agreement and "protect me from scandal, which is clearly being used to completely embarrass me."

Minnelli's estranged husband, David Gest, has also accused Minnelli of assault in a $10 million (£7.7 million) lawsuit against her. Minnelli is suing Gest for allegedly stealing $2 million (£1.5 million) from her, and both are suing each other for divorce.

Lindsay Lohan has moved to a substance abuse facility and signed legal papers hiring celebrity lawyer Robert Shapiro to represent her as she prepares to head to jail for violating probation in a 2007 drug case.

Shapiro, a key figure on O.J. Simpson's legal "dream team" in 1995, confirmed Lohan was staying at Pickford Lofts, a treatment center Shapiro founded after his son died of a drug overdose.

Shapiro told The Associated Press on Friday he had agreed to represent Lohan only if she does her jail time and complies with the terms of her probation.

He said he would help the actress get treatment to accomplish long-term recovery and sobriety.

"Ms. Lohan is suffering from a disease that I am all too familiar with," said Shapiro, whose son Brent died in 2005. "Hopefully I can be of assistance."

Lohan is scheduled to begin serving a 90-day sentence on Tuesday.

Shapiro has represented numerous celebrity clients.

In representing Lohan, Shapiro is replacing attorney Shawn Chapman Holley, another veteran of the Simpson trial in which the former football star was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Holley resigned after saying Lohan's sentence was harsh and unfair.

Shapiro filed papers in court signed by Lohan substituting him as her counsel.

The 24-year-old actress was sentenced to 90 days in jail earlier this month after a judge determined she violated her probation by missing seven weekly alcohol education classes since December.

The judge also ordered Lohan to spend three months in rehab after serving her sentence and continue to undergo random drug testing until her probation expires.

Lohan pleaded guilty in August 2007 to two misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of cocaine; no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent; and one count of reckless driving. She was sentenced to three years probation.

The plea came after a pair of high-profile arrests earlier that year.

Lohan has spent 84 minutes in jail and performed mandatory service at the county morgue.

Still, she has struggled with the terms of her sentence. In October, a judge extended her probation for another year and a prosecutor warned the actress she was facing jail time if she violated her probation.

Lohan has been required to wear an ankle alcohol monitor since late May, when she missed a court hearing. She claimed her passport was stolen while she attended the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The lapse prompted a series of crackdowns by the judge, including doubling Lohan's bail to $200,000 when the monitor registered a .03 blood alcohol level after the star attended the MTV Movie Awards and afterparties.

Lohan denied she had been drinking that night.

The arrest of Jennifer Hudson's estranged brother-in-law in the shooting deaths of her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew confirmed what police officials have quietly said for weeks: that the 27-year-old convicted felon was the prime suspect in the slayings.

William Balfour was arrested Monday at Stateville Correctional Center on a murder warrant and released to detectives as he awaited formal charges in the deaths of the relatives of the singer and Oscar-winning actress, Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said.

Until Monday, police had identified Balfour only as a "person of interest" in the investigation. He had not been formally charged as of Monday night, said Tandra Simonton, spokeswoman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.

Balfour's attorney said Monday night that his client told him he is innocent.

"He vehemently denies that he is guilty in this case," Joshua Kutnick told reporters outside police headquarters.

"Any evidence pointing to Mr. Balfour is not even thin. It is very, very weak," Kutnick said.

The bodies of Jennifer Hudson's mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, were discovered Oct. 24 at the family's home on the South Side of Chicago. The body of 7-year-old Julian King was found three days later in a sport utility vehicle on the West Side. All three had been shot.

Police took Balfour into custody the same day the bodies of Donerson and Hudson were discovered. After 48 hours - the longest Chicago police can hold a person without charges - Balfour was taken by the Illinois Department of Corrections on suspected parole violation.

Balfour - Julian's stepfather and the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson's older sister, Julia Hudson - served seven years for a 1999 attempted murder and vehicular hijacking conviction.

Balfour had refused to take a lie-detector test and stopped cooperating with detectives, according to a police official who was not authorized to discuss the case publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Police have confirmed they found the gun used in the killings. The .45-caliber gun was discovered October 29th in a vacant lot in the West Side neighborhood where King's body was found a few days earlier.

The police spokeswoman declined to discuss any evidence Monday. But after a hearing at the prison last month, the chairman of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board said a woman had told authorities that a gun used in the slayings was "identical" to the gun that was recovered.

At the time, board Chairman Jorge Montes said the evidence was key to a decision finding probable cause that Balfour violated his parole and should remain locked up pending a December 3rd hearing before a review board panel.

Balfour's mother told reporters outside the police station Monday night that authorities do not have a case against her son.

"If they found gun powder on his hands, you got a case; if they found a gun on him, he had a case; if they found a fingerprint on the truck that he did this, you got a case; but they don't have nothing," Michelle Davis-Balfour said.

Jennifer Hudson was a finalist in the 2004 season of the TV singing competition "American Idol" and won her Oscar in 2007 for her film debut, a supporting role in "Dreamgirls." She has mostly stayed out of the spotlight and close to her family since the killings.

Her personal publicist, Lisa Kasteler, declined to comment on Monday.

SPEARS REJECTS PLEA DEAL IN DRIVER'S LICENSE CASE

An attorney for Britney Spears has rejected a plea offer that would have placed her on a year's probation and forced her to pay a $150 fine in her misdemeanour driver's license case.

Attorney J. Michael Flanagan says Spears would consider an offer that reduces the charge to an infraction and requires her to pay a $10 fine. He says if the case does go to trial as scheduled later this month, he will appeal any conviction.

He says the 26-year-old singer is being unfairly targeted because she is a celebrity and doesn't deserve a blemish on her criminal record.

The charge is the last remnants of a criminal case that city prosecutors lodged against Spears after she hit a parked car in August 2007 and left without notifying the owner.

UMA THURMAN ENGAGED

Uma Thurman, star of the "Kill Bill" thrillers and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," will marry financier Arpad "Arki" Busson, according to British newspaper The Times.

The couple announced their engagement in the newspaper on Saturday June 28.

The newspaper announcement states:

"The engagement is announced between Arpad, son of Mr Pascal Busson, of Paris, and Mrs Florence Harcourt-Smith, of South Of France, and Uma, daughter of Mr and Mrs A.F. Thurman, of New York."

On Friday in the New York Daily News and People Magazine also reported on the engagement.

The pair apparently began dating last summer after attending a private dinner together in Milan, Italy.

Busson surprised Thurman with the ring last week in London, where the couple attended the 90th birthday party for Nelson Mandela, according to the Daily News.

It would be the third marriage for the 38-year-old Thurman, who has a son and daughter with actor and ex-husband Ethan Hawke, whom she divorced in 2003.

Thurman was previously married to actor Gary Oldman.

Busson has two sons with supermodel Elle MacPherson, from whom he split in 2005.

No wedding date was announced.

INDIA'S TOP COURT SUSPENDS ARREST WARRANT AGAINST RICHARD GERE

India's top court suspended an arrest warrant Friday against Hollywood star Richard Gere, who is wanted for allegedly breaking public obscenity laws by kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at a public AIDS awareness event last year, an attorney said.

"Gere is allowed to come and leave. He can't be arrested," said Anil Grover, attorney for Shetty, after attending the Supreme Court proceedings.

Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan and Justice R. V. Raveendran indefinitely stayed the arrest warrant issued against Gere last year by a court in the northwestern Indian city of Jaipur, Grover told The Associated Press.

Gere embraced and kissed Shetty on her cheek at the public AIDS awareness event in New Delhi on April 15 last year, prompting Hindu hard-liners to allege the pair had offended the sensibilities of India's traditionally conservative culture.

Hindu activists filed three cases against the pair last year, including one in Jaipur.

The allegations of obscenity against Gere and Shetty have failed to stir wider outrage among Indians, most of whom have responded with utter indifference.

Grover called the cases "frivolous" and "a total misuse of the legal process."

Shortly after the cases were filed by Hindu activists, Gere apologised for any offense he may have caused. But he also said the whole controversy was manufactured by a small hard-line political party.

Gere is a frequent visitor to India, promoting health issues and the cause of Tibetan exiles, tens of thousands of whom live in India.

Shetty, a well-known actress in India, became an international star after her appearance on the British reality show "Celebrity Big Brother."

KID ROCK ARRESTED IN ATLANTA

Kid Rock was arrested early Sunday after a brawl at a restaurant and spent about 12 hours in jail before being released, police said.

The musician stopped at the Waffle House restaurant shortly after 5 a.m. after his performance at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, authorities said.

"He and five members of his entourage were involved in a fight with a male customer inside the Waffle House," said Mekka Parish, a spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Police Department.

The customer recognized a female with Kid Rock's party and exchanged words with her, Parish said.

"It escalated to a physical altercation between Kid Rock and that male customer and moved outside to the parking lot," she said. At some point the customer punched out a restaurant window, she said.

Kid Rock left in his tour bus and was stopped by police about a mile from the restaurant, Parish said. The musician and five members of his entourage were taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery.

The other customer was charged with criminal damage to property, a felony, Parish said. Kid Rock was released from the county jail on bond about 5 p.m.

A telephone message left with Kid Rock's publicist was not immediately returned.

The other customer was treated at a hospital for cuts and bruises. No one in Kid Rock's group was hospitalized, police said.

POLANSKI LAWYERS SEEK TO UNSEAL DOCUMENTS ALLEGING MISCONDUCT

A court is set to hear arguments on whether transcripts should be unsealed that detail alleged misconduct in the decades-old sex case against Roman Polanski.

In today's hearing (10th May 2010), attorneys for the Oscar-winning director will seek access to the documents that include testimony by former prosecutor Roger Gunson who wanted the trial judge to be disqualified because of purported misconduct.

Prosecutors are opposing the release of the transcripts.

Los Angeles authorities want Polanski returned from Europe to face sentencing on a charge he had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. Polanski was arrested seven months ago and is under house

arrest in Switzerland.

Polanski fled the United States in 1978 on the eve of sentencing.

Polanski's attorneys said they need to send the testimony of retired Deputy District Attorney Roger Gunson to Swiss authorities who are considering whether to extradite the director to the U.S.

The motion said the transcripts will prove the extradition request is based on false and incomplete statements by the Los Angeles district attorney's office.

Gunson testified earlier this year that in 1977 he tried to challenge the now-deceased Superior Court Judge Lawrence Rittenband, but his supervisors prevented him from filing it after they consulted with the judge, according

to court documents from Polanski's attorneys.

Gunson wanted Rittenband disqualified from the case because of misconduct, the filings state.

The testimony was taken in case Gunson is unavailable to testify at a later hearing.

Polanski was arrested in September as he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival.

He released his first public comments on the case last weekend, saying efforts to return him to Los Angeles were meant largely to serve him "on a platter to the media."

Polanski was accused in 1977 of plying a 13-year-old girl with champagne and part of a sedative pill then raping her at actor Jack Nicholson's house.

Polanski was indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy. He later pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.

What happened after that is the subject of the legal dispute. The defense says Rittenband had agreed in meetings with attorneys to sentence Polanski to a 90-day diagnostic study and nothing more.

But the judge later changed his mind and summoned Polanski for further sentencing at which time he fled to his native France, attorneys said. He has been a fugitive ever since.

ASIAN STAR ARRESTED FOR DRUGS

Hong Kong pop star Alex To was arrested for suspected possession of marijuana and later released on bail, newspapers reported Thursday.

The Filipino-Chinese hip-hop singer was arrested in a bar in Hong Kong early Wednesday (25DEC02), several Chinese language papers reported.

Police spokesman Ricky Chong said officers arrested a 40-year-old man surnamed Delfino for possession of herbal cannabis.

The star's real name is Alejandro Delfino, the Sing Pao Daily News newspaper said, but he is known locally as Alex To Tak-wai.

A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, would confirm only that the arrested man was an entertainer with the last name To.

Chong said the man was released on HK$500 (US$64) bail and asked to report back to police on Dec. 29 for further questioning. No charges have been placed, Chong said.

In the same drug bust, police also arrested a 30-year-old man with HK$100 (US$12.80) worth of ketamine and a 43-year-old man in possession of an unidentified tablet, according to Chong.

Calls to To's record label, Rock Records, went unanswered Thursday.

'BATMAN' BALE IN ASSAULT QUESTIONING

Batman star Christian Bale is being questioned by police over allegations he assaulted his mother and sister the night before the European premiere of 'The Dark Knight '.

According to a report by the UK's Press Association his mother and sister complained that the 34-year-old actor assaulted them at a west London hotel on Sunday. The report said they made the allegation at a police station in Hampshire, southern England on Monday and that the allegation was passed on to Scotland Yard in London.

When asked Tuesday about the news reports, Scotland Yard said it was investigating an allegation referred to it by another police force, but refused to say whether the incident involved Bale.

The Sun newspaper said police did not question Bale on Monday because they did not want to interfere with the 'Dark Knight' premiere.

Bale's U.S. based representatives did not immediately return messages seeking comment. Phone calls to Bale's London representative rang unanswered.

On Monday, Bale attended the European premiere of his film 'The Dark Knight' in London's Leicester Square with his wife Sibi Blazic. The film has already opened in the US where it has smashed box office records.

BIEBER GETS TRIAL DATE IN FLORIDA CASE, CHANTAL JEFFRIES FILES LIBEL LAWSUIT

A May 5 trial date has been set for Justin Bieber in the Florida case charging him with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and possessing an invalid driver's license.

Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff were arrested Jan. 23 in Miami Beach after what police called an illegal drag race with high-end sports cars. Breath tests showed Bieber's blood-alcohol content was below the 0.02 limit for underage drivers.

Other tests detected marijuana and Xanax.

Meantime, the woman who was riding with the 20-year-old singer in a Lamborghini when he was arrested has sued the New York Daily News, accusing the newspaper of libel.

Attorney Andew Parker Felix filed the lawsuit Tuesday (11 MARCH 2014) on behalf of Chantel Jeffries. She is described in court papers as a student, model and entrepreneur.

The lawsuit claims Daily News stories posted on its website after the Jan. 23 incident falsely reported she had a criminal record and that she instigated a drag race between Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff, who was driving a Ferrari. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and an order preventing future false stories about Jeffries.

The Daily News legal department and a spokesman for the newspaper didn't immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.

A California man was arrested for disorderly conduct after Justin Timberlake said he got too physical with him last weekend during the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe.

Sheriff's department officials said Tuesday 29-year-old Keith Weglin of Sacramento was booked into jail for the misdemeanor Saturday afternoon, posted $640 bail and was released late that night.

TMZ first reported on a video showing someone's hand slapping or touching Timberlake on the neck as he walked through the gallery at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline.

Timberlake could be heard saying, ``Bro, why would you do that?''

Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell told The Associated Press Weglin was arrested for his conduct while being escorted from the course ``after the `touching' of Timberlake.''

Weglin did not immediately respond to a telephone call seeking comment.

JUDGE: DAUGHTER CAN STOP FOOD FOR CASEY KASEM

Casey Kasem's daughter has the authority to withhold food and fluids from her ailing father, a judge ruled Wednesday (11 JUNE 2014.)

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy reversed a ruling from Monday that stated that Kasem should receive food, fluids and certain medications until after a court-appointed attorney met with the former radio host and his doctors.

Murphy reviewed additional medical records on Wednesday and concluded that Kasem would endure more pain if he was given food or fluids, attorney Troy Martin said. Martin, who represents Kasem's daughter Kerri, presented the updated information to Murphy during an emergency hearing.

He also presented the judge with documents in which Kasem stated he did not want his life prolonged by food or fluids if he was mentally incapacitated.

"It's just flat out wrong," said Steve Haney, an attorney for Kasem's wife Jean.

Haney said Murphy's ruling wasn't based on sworn declarations from doctors and relied on an outdated document in which Casey Kasem said he didn't want to receive food or fluids if he was incapacitated.

As of last week, Kasem still had the ability to communicate nonverbally, Haney said.

Kasem's wife of 34 years pleaded with the judge to restore food and fluids to her husband, who has a form of dementia. Jean Kasem stormed out of the courtroom after Murphy issued his ruling, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the decision.

Jean Kasem and her stepdaughter Kerri have been fighting in court since May over Casey Kasem's care. Murphy has given Kerri Kasem temporary authority to make medical decisions for her father.

Murphy upheld Kerri Kasem's authority and ruled that Jean Kasem had not acted in her husband's best interests when she removed him from a California medical facility and took him to a friend's home in Washington state last month, Martin said.

Haney said Murphy's comments about Jean Kasem's decisions were wrong and she took her husband to Washington to be evaluated by a specialist. Her decisions "in no way contributed to his situation," Haney said.

Casey Kasem remains in critical condition in a Washington hospital. Martin said the former "America's Top 40" host has not received food or fluids since Friday.

Kerri Kasem and her siblings Julie and Mike have invited Jean Kasem to join them at the hospital for Casey Kasem's final moments.

Kasem gained fame with his radio music countdown shows, "American Top 40" and "Casey's Top 40." He also was the voice of Shaggy in the cartoon "Scooby Doo."

TOMMY LEE JONES SUES PARAMOUNT PICTURES

Tommy Lee Jones is suing the makers of "No Country for Old Men" for more than 10 (m) million US dollars that the actor claims he is owed for starring in the 2007 Oscar-winning crime thriller.

The lawsuit against Paramount Pictures claims that Jones was promised "significant box-office bonuses" and other compensation depending on the success of the film, which went on to take in more than 160 (m) million US dollars at the box office.

The movie, which is set in Texas and is based on a critically acclaimed Cormac McCarthy novel, garnered four Academy awards, including best picture.

A message left for Paramount Pictures on Saturday (06SEP) was not immediately returned. Jones declined comment through his publicist, Jennifer Allen, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The lawsuit was filed on Thursday (04SEP) in Bexar County in San Antonio. Netherlands-based N.M. Classics, Inc., a Paramount subsidiary, is also named in the lawsuit.

Jones, who played Sheriff Ed Tom Bell in the film, claims he was not paid promised bonuses and had expenses wrongly deducted.

The lawsuit says Jones was paid a reduced upfront fee in joining the film, and that his contract had known errors not corrected before the movie was made.

Jones, 61, is asking that an auditor be named to review financial records to determine how much he should be paid.
