ROBERT DOWNEY JR.'S SON ARRESTED IN DRUG CASE

Actor Robert Downey, Jr. thanked authorities who arrested his 20-year-old son on Sunday (29 JUNE 2014) on suspicion of cocaine possession and said the family was determined to get him the help he needs.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Valentine said Indio Falconer Downey was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a car he was in was pulled over in West Hollywood.

Valentine says Downey was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, believed to be cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Indio Downey was later released after posting $10,250 (USD) bail and a court date was set for Aug. 29.

Two other people were in the car, but only Downey was arrested.

"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," Robert Downey, Jr., who had a series of high-profile drug-related arrests, wrote in a statement. "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We're grateful to the

Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

Indio Downey appeared in the 2005 movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which starred his father.

PAPARAZZO KILLED AFTER TAKING SHOTS OF BIEBER CAR

A paparazzo was struck and killed by a car while darting across a street after taking pictures of Justin Bieber's Ferrari when it was pulled over along a freeway in Los Angeles, police said Wednesday (2 JAN 2013.)

Bieber was not in the car at the time. The singer later said his prayers were with the family of the 29-year-old photographer who was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the accident late Tuesday afternoon.

His name was withheld by police pending notification of relatives.

"Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves," Bieber said in the statement released by Island Def Jam Music Group.

The death came about six months after another photographer was charged with reckless driving and with violating a 2010 California law that toughened punishment for those who drive dangerously in pursuit of photos for commercial gain.

However, a judge later dismissed the paparazzi law charges, saying the law was overly broad and violated First Amendment free-speech protections.

On Tuesday, a friend of Bieber's was behind the wheel of the Ferrari registered to the singer when a California Highway Patrol officer pulled it over for speeding along Interstate 405, authorities said.

"This photographer evidently had been following the white Ferrari" and when it was pulled over he stopped, parked and crossed the street to snap photos, Los Angeles police Detective Charles Walton said.

The photographer stood on a low freeway railing to shoot photographs of the traffic stop over a chain-link fence, authorities said.

"The CHP officer told him numerous times that it wasn't safe for him to be there and to return to his vehicle," Walton said.

After the officer issued the traffic ticket and the Ferrari left, the photographer began to run back across the street to his car when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander, Walton said.

The driver, a 69-year-old Los Angeles woman, had two small grandchildren in the back seat.

It was not immediately clear how fast she was going. The photographer was carried about 30 feet on the hood of her car, Walton said.

"The windshield was smashed in her car and there was glass all over the front seat" but no blood, Walton said.

The motorist was distraught after the crash. She and the children were taken away by her husband.

She was not believed to be at fault for the accident and was unlikely to be cited, police said.

"There were no sidewalks on the street there, there was no crossing place for a pedestrian, there was no reason to expect a pedestrian," Walton said.

The street also was dark and winding, he added.

"It would have been very difficult for her to see him," Walton said.

It was not immediately clear whether the photographer was a freelancer or full-time professional, although he was carrying expensive camera gear and had connections to a photo agency, Walton said.

In the previous incident, photographer Paul Raef was charged in July with reckless driving and also with violating the paparazzi law that set a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Authorities said Raef was arrested after Bieber was chased in another car on Interstate 101 at speeds up to 80 mph.

However, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas Rubinson dismissed the paparazzi law charges.

The law was prompted by the experiences of Jennifer Aniston, who provided details to a lawmaker on being unable to drive away after she was surrounded by paparazzi on Pacific Coast Highway.

STEPHEN BALDWIN CHARGED IN NEW YORK TAX CASE

Actor Stephen Baldwin has been charged with failing to file New York state income taxes for three years.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe (ZOO'-gih-bee) says Baldwin owes more than $350,000 (U.S.) in taxes and penalties. He says Baldwin was arraigned Thursday (6 DEC. 2012) on a charge of repeated failure to file tax returns.

Baldwin pleaded not guilty and was released without bail.

The district attorney says Baldwin could face up to four years in prison if convicted. The actor is due back in court on Feb. 5. A call to Baldwin's attorney, Russell Yankwitt, was not immediately returned.

The 46-year-old Baldwin, who lives in Upper Grandview, is the youngest of the acting Baldwin brothers. He starred in 1995's "The Usual Suspects" and appeared in 1989's "Born on the Fourth of July."

BIEBER GETS TRIAL DATE IN FLORIDA CASE, CHANTAL JEFFRIES FILES LIBEL LAWSUIT

A May 5 trial date has been set for Justin Bieber in the Florida case charging him with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and possessing an invalid driver's license.

Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff were arrested Jan. 23 in Miami Beach after what police called an illegal drag race with high-end sports cars. Breath tests showed Bieber's blood-alcohol content was below the 0.02 limit for underage drivers.

Other tests detected marijuana and Xanax.

Meantime, the woman who was riding with the 20-year-old singer in a Lamborghini when he was arrested has sued the New York Daily News, accusing the newspaper of libel.

Attorney Andew Parker Felix filed the lawsuit Tuesday (11 MARCH 2014) on behalf of Chantel Jeffries. She is described in court papers as a student, model and entrepreneur.

The lawsuit claims Daily News stories posted on its website after the Jan. 23 incident falsely reported she had a criminal record and that she instigated a drag race between Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff, who was driving a Ferrari. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and an order preventing future false stories about Jeffries.

The Daily News legal department and a spokesman for the newspaper didn't immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.

A California man was arrested for disorderly conduct after Justin Timberlake said he got too physical with him last weekend during the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe.

Sheriff's department officials said Tuesday 29-year-old Keith Weglin of Sacramento was booked into jail for the misdemeanor Saturday afternoon, posted $640 bail and was released late that night.

TMZ first reported on a video showing someone's hand slapping or touching Timberlake on the neck as he walked through the gallery at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline.

Timberlake could be heard saying, ``Bro, why would you do that?''

Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell told The Associated Press Weglin was arrested for his conduct while being escorted from the course ``after the `touching' of Timberlake.''

Weglin did not immediately respond to a telephone call seeking comment.

JUDGE: DAUGHTER CAN STOP FOOD FOR CASEY KASEM

Casey Kasem's daughter has the authority to withhold food and fluids from her ailing father, a judge ruled Wednesday (11 JUNE 2014.)

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy reversed a ruling from Monday that stated that Kasem should receive food, fluids and certain medications until after a court-appointed attorney met with the former radio host and his doctors.

Murphy reviewed additional medical records on Wednesday and concluded that Kasem would endure more pain if he was given food or fluids, attorney Troy Martin said. Martin, who represents Kasem's daughter Kerri, presented the updated information to Murphy during an emergency hearing.

He also presented the judge with documents in which Kasem stated he did not want his life prolonged by food or fluids if he was mentally incapacitated.

"It's just flat out wrong," said Steve Haney, an attorney for Kasem's wife Jean.

Haney said Murphy's ruling wasn't based on sworn declarations from doctors and relied on an outdated document in which Casey Kasem said he didn't want to receive food or fluids if he was incapacitated.

As of last week, Kasem still had the ability to communicate nonverbally, Haney said.

Kasem's wife of 34 years pleaded with the judge to restore food and fluids to her husband, who has a form of dementia. Jean Kasem stormed out of the courtroom after Murphy issued his ruling, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the decision.

Jean Kasem and her stepdaughter Kerri have been fighting in court since May over Casey Kasem's care. Murphy has given Kerri Kasem temporary authority to make medical decisions for her father.

Murphy upheld Kerri Kasem's authority and ruled that Jean Kasem had not acted in her husband's best interests when she removed him from a California medical facility and took him to a friend's home in Washington state last month, Martin said.

Haney said Murphy's comments about Jean Kasem's decisions were wrong and she took her husband to Washington to be evaluated by a specialist. Her decisions "in no way contributed to his situation," Haney said.

Casey Kasem remains in critical condition in a Washington hospital. Martin said the former "America's Top 40" host has not received food or fluids since Friday.

Kerri Kasem and her siblings Julie and Mike have invited Jean Kasem to join them at the hospital for Casey Kasem's final moments.

Kasem gained fame with his radio music countdown shows, "American Top 40" and "Casey's Top 40." He also was the voice of Shaggy in the cartoon "Scooby Doo."

KIM KARDASHIAN'S DIVORCE UNLIKELY TO BE FINAL THIS YEAR

Kim Kardashian's divorce has engulfed her family and network, literally.

Attorneys for her estranged husband sought detailed records Wednesday (15 July 2012) about her reality shows and details of depositions with her mother and current boyfriend Kanye West to prove her 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries was a fraud.

The legal bickering means it's unlikely the couple will be granted a divorce, or annulment, as Humphries desires, before next year, attorneys and a judge said during a testy hearing.

Kardashian's attorney Laura Wasser accused Humphries' team of overreaching in the effort that has already resulted in $250,000 in legal fees for the model-actress. The acrimony over the breakup led lawyers for Humphries to recently try to serve West with a deposition subpoena -disguised in a Nordstrom's box -at Kardashian's home.

Humphries' attorney Marshall Waller said the lack of cooperation from West's attorneys and companies that work on Kardashian's reality show were delaying the case. He said it could take a two-week trial if Humphries keeps pursuing an annulment based on fraud.

Waller said at the hearing that he wanted to prove Kardashian had "no intention of proceeding with this marriage. That it was basically a contrivance for the benefit of her show and to make money," he said.

Wasser said the tactic was slowing the legal process and she intended to bill Humphries for her legal fees.

"To say that I'm frustrated would be an understatement," Wasser said in the packed courtroom where 18 other cases were to be called. "I am at a loss to figure out what the holdup is. ... It's dragging on, it's clogging resources."

Several depositions have been taken, including one of Humphries in his home state of Minnesota, and his girlfriend is scheduled to undergo questioning next week.

Wasser said many of Humphries' requests for information were overly broad, including information on the finances of Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner.

The couple was married last summer in a lavish, star-studded, televised ceremony, but Kardashian soon filed for divorce on Oct. 31.

Humphries responded a month later asking for an annulment, claiming the couple's nuptials were based on fraud. He did not lay out specific evidence.

Kardashian is the star of the E! Entertainment Television series "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," the network's top-rated show, averaging more than 3 million viewers in its sixth season.

Humphries, an NBA forward, recently signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Moloney said he thinks the case can still be resolved by next May and ordered the attorneys to return for an update on Nov. 28.

HUGH JACKMAN STALKER FREED FROM NEW YORK JAIL

A California woman who admitted stalking Hugh Jackman has been released after a guilty plea and nearly a year in jail in New York City.

Katherine Thurston was freed Wednesday (19 MARCH 2014), although she's due back in court Thursday to work out probation details.

The Bakersfield, Calif., woman was arrested last April. Police said she followed the "X-Men" star into a Manhattan gym where he was working out, pulled out a hair-filled razor and threw it at him. He wasn't injured.

Court records show Thurston pleaded guilty earlier this month to stalking, harassment and burglary. She was sentenced to six months in jail, which she'd already served, and five years' probation.

Defense lawyer Liz Beal says Thurston aims to go back to California and see her family.

Jackman's publicist had no immediate comment.

KIM KARDASHIAN'S DIVORCE INCHES TOWARD TRIAL

Kim Kardashian's divorce attorney told a judge Wednesday that the reality star wants to move on with her life but is "handcuffed" to her estranged husband because the case is not yet ready for trial.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Moloney told attorneys for Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries to return to court in mid-February to set a trial date to either dissolve or annul the couple's 72-day marriage. He didn't set a deadline for depositions and other pre-trial investigation to be completed, but indicated a trial could be held early next year if it is ready by Feb. 15.

Humphries, a power forward for the Brooklyn Nets, is seeking an annulment based on fraud, but his attorney says he needs more time to collect documents from companies that handle Kardashian's reality shows.

Kardashian is seeking a traditional divorce and her attorney Laura Wasser has cited both the marriage's short duration and a prenuptial agreement as reasons for why it should be quickly resolved.

"I don't think his client has a fraud case," Wasser said in court of Humphries' attorney. "I think there's a fishing expedition going on here."

Humphries' attorney Marshall Waller said he needed to be sure he had documents from E! Entertainment and NBC Universal before deciding the scope of his case, but that he was narrowing it down.

"I do understand the desire to get this case moved," Waller said. "There's nothing in particular about this case that makes it more important than anybody else."

Wasser however said that unlike in a regular divorce proceeding, Kardashian cannot have her marriage dissolved and resolve other issues later. "Ms. Kardashian is now handcuffed to Mr. Humphries," she said.

Kardashian filed for divorce more than a year ago, citing irreconcilable differences just weeks after the couple's star-studded and televised wedding. Humphries later filed for an annulment, claiming the marriage was based on fraud but he has yet to lay out any specific evidence for his claim.

Wasser says Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, and current boyfriend, Kanye West, have been deposed in the case.

Kardashian, 32, has not yet been deposed in the case. She is the star of the E! Entertainment Television series "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," the network's top-rated show, which averaged more than 3 million viewers in its sixth season. She also appears on other series involving her family.

JUDGE FINALIZES AMY POEHLER AND WILL ARNETT'S DIVORCE

A judge has finalized Amy Poehler and Will Arnett's divorce nearly four years after the comedians separated.

Court records show the divorce was finalized on Friday (29 JULY 2016). The judgment does not include many details about their settlement, but states that neither actor will receive spousal support.

The judgment states Poehler and Arnett will share joint custody of their sons, ages 7 and 5.

The comedians were married in August 2003 and separated in September 2012. Arnett filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, in April 2014.

Poehler starred on the NBC show "Parks and Recreation." Arnett voices the main character on Netflix's animated series "BoJack Horseman."

LA PROSECUTORS SEE TO VIOLATE LOHAN'S PROBATION

Los Angeles prosecutors on Tuesday asked a judge to revoke Lindsay Lohan's probation and schedule a hearing that could lead to the actress' return to jail.

The filing came one day before Lohan is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on three misdemeanor charges filed last month related to a June car crash.

Lohan will not need to be present for Wednesday's arraignment on charges she lied to Santa Monica police, was driving recklessly and obstructed an officer from performing duties related to the crash investigation. She remains on probation for a 2011 necklace theft case and could be sentenced to 245 days in jail if a judge determines her conduct was a probation violation.

Her attorney Shawn Holley did not immediately return an email seeking comment.

City attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan said any probation violation proceedings are likely to be heard after the Santa Monica case. Prosecutors allege Lohan lied about being a passenger in her Porsche when it crashed on Pacific Coast Highway on the way to a film shoot.

The "Liz and Dick" star was released from supervised probation in March after completing several months of court appearances and morgue cleanup duty.

Lohan has yet to be booked on the new charges and a judge on Wednesday will likely set bail and the terms of her release.

A lawyer for Kim Kardashian's estranged husband wants to end his involvement in the former couple's divorce proceedings.

Marshall Waller says irreconcilable differences have arisen between him and Kris Humphries, and he should be allowed to leave the case.

He filed paperwork Thursday (14 FEB. 2013), one day before he and Kardashian's attorney are expected to appear in court for a scheduling hearing.

Kardashian is asking a judge to schedule a trial as soon as possible, while Waller has been advocating for more time to prepare.

If Waller is allowed to leave, it could delay a judge's decision on a trial date.

A toxic mix of heroin and other drugs killed Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, New York City officials said Friday (28 FEB. 2014.)

A spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner said Hoffman died from a mix of heroin, cocaine, amphetamines and benzodiazepines (ben-zoh-dy-AZ'-uh-peens), which are psychoactive drugs such as Librium. The death was ruled an accident.

Police had been investigating his death as a suspected drug overdose.

Law enforcement officials have said Hoffman was found Feb. 2 with a needle in his arm, and tests found heroin in samples from at least 50 packets in his Manhattan apartment.

An autopsy in February was inconclusive and medical examiners said more tests were needed.

Authorities also found unused syringes, a charred spoon and various prescription medications, including a drug used to treat heroin addiction, a blood-pressure medication and a muscle relaxant.

Hoffman, who won an Oscar for "Capote" and starred in numerous other movies as well as New York stage productions, had been frank about struggling with substance abuse. He told CBS' "60 Minutes" in 2006 that had he used "anything I could get my hands on" before getting clean at age 22. But in interviews last year, he said he'd relapsed, had developed a heroin problem and had gone to rehab for a time.

Investigators have been gathering pieces of the puzzle of how Hoffman may have obtained the heroin and a musician has been charged with keeping a 300-packet heroin stash in a lower Manhattan apartment amid the investigation into Hoffman's death.

Veteran jazz musician Robert Vineberg, who has said he was a friend of the Tony Award-nominated actor, hasn't been charged playing a role in Hoffman's Feb. 2 death and has said he didn't sell him the heroin found in his apartment.

As police followed a tip after Hoffman's death, they said they found about 300 small bags of heroin, worth about $10 apiece on the street, and $1,300 in cash in Vineberg's apartment and music studio.

ACTRESS CONVICTED OF STALKING ALEC BALDWIN

A Canadian actress who pined for Alec Baldwin was convicted Thursday (14 NOV. 2013) of stalking him with yearning emails and phone calls that spiraled into unbidden appearances at his homes.

So voluble during her trial that she was held in contempt of court, Genevieve Sabourin was tearful but largely mum as a judge found her guilty of charges including stalking and harassment and sentenced her to six months in jail. That was on top of a month she's already serving because of her courtroom outbursts.

"I haven't done anything wrong. I'm innocent," she told Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Robert Mandelbaum when he invited her to speak. "You're doing a mistake right now."

Sabourin, who hails from the Montreal suburb of Candiac, had turned down a plea offer that would have spared her jail time.

Baldwin's wife, Hilaria, said in a statement afterward that the two "feel safe, relieved and happy to move forward" with the case resolved.

The "30 Rock" actor testified that Sabourin, 41, turned his life into a two-year-long horror film after they had dinner together. He said the evening was only a chat about her career prospects, not the romantic tryst she portrayed.

Baldwin, 55, said he repeatedly implored the actress to stop contacting him before she ultimately was arrested in front of his Manhattan apartment building in 2012, shortly after he and his wife got engaged. The Baldwins met in 2011.

Sabourin testified that the actor took her on a fairy-tale date that ended in bed, sketched out a future together and then sent mixed messages about whether he wanted to hear from and see her again.

"She's not entitled to an explanation for a dream that he sold her?" her lawyer, Todd Spodek, said in a closing argument. "Mr. Baldwin doesn't have carte blanche to use the criminal justice system to sort out his relationships."

But the judge said that however Sabourin and Baldwin got to know each other, she had no right to pursue contact she knew to be unwanted and amounted to a "relentless and escalating campaign of threats and in-person appearances."

Baldwin and Sabourin agree on this much: They first met during a 2000 movie shoot in Montreal and had dinner a decade later in New York. Mutual friend Martin Bregman, producer of movies including "Scarface," had put the two in touch as Sabourin sought career help.

Baldwin said Sabourin then flooded him with calls and emails. After a March 2012 message said she could infiltrate his apartment building and his now-wife's yoga class, "I knew that she was dangerous," Baldwin testified.

Then Sabourin turned up at a film screening he was hosting and at his Hamptons and Manhattan homes, he said.

Baldwin acknowledged he sent Sabourin some friendly emails along the way. He said he was just hoping a congenial approach would work where appeals to leave him alone had failed.

She said she kept trying to communicate with him just to understand what had happened between them, not to intimidate him.

"It's not, because he's rich and famous, that he can take advantage of women and throw them in the garbage," she testified.

Prosecutors said what she called a quest for "closure" was an obsession that crossed the line into crime.

"None of this is to say that the defendant's conduct in this case isn't sad, but it doesn't make her conduct justifiable," Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Zachary Stendig said in his summation.

50 CENT IN CAR ACCIDENT, RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL

A representative for 50 Cent says the rapper is out of the hospital after being injured in a car accident in New York on Tuesday (26 June) morning.

The rep says 50 Cent was taken to New York Hospital Queens where he was treated for "minor neck and back injuries" and is now "doing fine."

Bruce Miller, who was driving the car, was also injured and has been released from the hospital.

Photos of the 36-year-old on a stretcher are posted on his website www.ThisIs50.com. The Grammy winner, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, appears in a neck brace in two photos.

RIHANNA SUES EX-ACCOUNTANTS FOR LOSSES

Rihanna sued her former accountants Thursday, blaming them for tens of millions of dollars in losses, shoddy bookkeeping, a failure to recommend she trim expenses when a 2009 tour was losing money and an ongoing audit by the Internal Revenue Service.

The lawsuit in federal court in Manhattan sought unspecified damages against New York-based Berdon LLP and two accountants. A Berdon spokeswoman said the company had no immediate comment.

The singer, suing under her real name, Robyn Fenty, alleged through her attorneys that the defendants drained tens of millions of dollars from revenues while she launched four national and international tours over a five-year period.

By the "Last Girl on Earth" tour in 2009, Rihanna learned that the tour had managed "significant net losses" despite robust revenues, though the defendants had managed to pocket 22 percent of the tour's total revenues while paying Rihanna just 6 percent of revenues, the lawsuit said. It said Berdon's unusual accounting practice of paying itself a percentage of gross tour income as commissions left it no incentive to "counsel" Rihanna to reduce expenses or put in place appropriate financial controls.

The lawsuit alleged that the practice of paying itself commissions on revenues was not standard in the accounting and business management industry and created a clear conflict of interest.

Rihanna's lawyers also blamed the accounting firm for an ongoing IRS audit of her tax returns, saying she was forced to spend significant resources to correct errors resulting from negligence.

Since firing the firm and its accountants in September 2010, Rihanna's fortunes already have reversed, the lawsuit said. The "Loud" tour stretching from June 2011 to December 2011 produced a net profit equal to more than 40 percent of total tour revenues, it added.

According to the lawsuit, the singer hired the accountants in 2005 when she was a 16-year-old from Barbados launching her career. She alleged that they repeatedly breached their agreements, engaged in misconduct and malfeasance, paid themselves excessive commissions, created entities without regard to their effect on her taxes and failed to document revenue and expenses and implement a proper budget.

The lawsuit also blamed the company for Rihanna's 2009 purchase of a new home, saying competent business managers would have told her that her tour was losing money and that it would not be advisable to buy such an expensive home at that time.

Last year, Rihanna sued a real estate company in Los Angeles over the $6.9 million purchase of a hillside home in 2009, saying it had serious structural defects that made it inhabitable.

STORYLINE: LAWYERS: DEPP'S ESTRANGED WIFE HEARD HAS MADE A STATEMENT TO POLICE

Johnny Depp's estranged wife has given Los Angeles police a statement to support her account of an alleged domestic violence incident involving the actor, her lawyers said Tuesday.

Attorneys Samantha Spector and Joseph P. Koenig wrote in a statement that model-actress Amber Heard had spoken to Los Angeles police. The statement did not indicate when Heard gave the statement, and the Los Angeles Police Department says it has no information about Heard speaking with officers.

"With her statement Amber hopes to give the LAPD the opportunity to conduct an accurate and complete investigation into the events of that evening and before," Heard's lawyers wrote. "If that occurs, and the truth is revealed, there is no doubt that Amber's claims will be substantiated beyond any doubt, and hopefully Johnny will get the help that he so desperately needs."

Heard obtained a temporary restraining order against Depp on Friday, alleging the actor threw her cell phone at her face, striking her below the right eye during a fight on May 21.

Los Angeles police have said they responded to the incident but found no evidence of a crime.

Spector and Koenig wrote that Heard did not initially give a statement to police because she was trying to protect Depp's reputation and career.

An email message sent to Depp's publicist was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Heard submitted a photo of her bruised face when she applied for the restraining order. She also wrote that the actor pulled her hair, screamed at her and repeatedly hit her and violently grabbed her face.

She appeared at a Los Angeles court on Friday and had a bruise on her right cheek below the eye.

Heard filed for divorce on May 23, two days after the alleged abuse, citing irreconcilable differences. Depp's lawyer has accused Heard of using the abuse allegations to try to gain an advantage on the actor in divorce proceedings. She is seeking spousal support, but Depp is asking a judge to deny that request.

"Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money," Heard's lawyers wrote. "Amber is a brave and financially independent woman who is showing the courage of her convictions by doing the right thing against Johnny's relentless army of lawyers and surrogates."

Heard and Depp met on the set of the 2011 film "The Rum Diary" and were married for 15 months before the divorce petition was filed. Heard wrote that May 21, the day of the alleged assault, was the first time she had seen Depp in a month.

The actress reported in a court filing that she has about $10,000 a month in income, but her expenses total nearly $44,000 a month.

Depp is traveling overseas on tour with his band, Hollywood Vampires. His latest film, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" bombed at the box office, earning just over $28.1 million in its opening weekend, according to figures released Sunday.
