It was a case of the prince and the pauper when the heir to the British throne met an old schoolmate in London on Thursday.

Prince Charles was visiting the offices of "The Big Issue" - a magazine sold by the homeless - when he was introduced to Clive Harold.

The two had last met 44 years ago when they were pupils at the posh London preparatory school Hill House.

Both their lives have undergone big changes since then.

While on his tour of the Big Issue Offices, Clive Harold introduced himself to the Prince Charles.

They Royal appeared taken aback when Harold noted he had attended London's Hill House School with the prince 44 years ago.

They talked for some time about their school days and the Prince heard how Clive's life had taken a downward turn about ten years ago.

Clive had come from a privileged background, living in the most desirable part of London, opposite a member of the English Royal family.

Clive had told the Prince that selling the magazine had brought discipline back into his life, "It gives people a purpose and discipline in their lives."

He sells the Big Issue outside a train station in London, and at this time of year he dons a red Father Christmas hat, which he asked the Prince to try on.

Prince Charles, not surprisingly, politely refused.

Clive Harold had a philosophical reaction to his meeting with the Prince, finding similarities in their respective lives, despite them being poles apart.

"It was strange, because my family home is in Launceston Place and Princess Margaret lived opposite , you know, and it was all......it was all up, up an running. He went to Gordonstone, and I went to Millfield, and it was, you know...and the idea that we would meet 44 years later, and I'd be on the streets, he'd be obviously where he is now...erm...

it was, it was strange, it was strange. But he was very encouraging, and he enjoys the project here, as I do, and because he's been through his own pain , and you know his life has taken all sorts of twists and turns, as mine has, we sort of had a...... we sort of had a meeting of minds"

Prince Charles went on to tour the jobs education and training section of the Big Issue Foundation, the company's charity wing.

The Big Issue has become an overwhelming success, founded in London it can now be bought in most of Europe's capitals.

Vendors of the publication receive a proportion of the cover price, which gives them a small income, a degree of self respect, but most importantly a sense of purpose.

Art worth millions of dollars is about to go on sale in New York.

The highlight of the Sotheby's auction is a rare Andy Warhol, which is expected to sell for around $60 million plus works Picasso, and the first portrait of Prince Charles by a Chinese artist.

STORYLINE

Sotheby's isn't pulling any punches, it hits you as soon as you enter the gallery.

Warhol's Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster) is definitely the star attraction of this sale.

The auction house estimates it'll fetch in excess of $60 million dollars when it goes under the hammer.

This huge work of art has only been seen in public once in 26 years.

The 1963 silkscreen measures 8 feet by 13 feet and is a print of multiple photographs that show the aftermath of a car crash when the vehicle hit a tree.

Art critics say it is one of Warhol's most important pieces.

On November 13th in New York, Tobias Meyer, the principal auctioneer and the worldwide head of contemporary art will bring his hammer down this sought after work.

Meyer says: "It's Warhol at the core of what he does which is deal with life and fame and death. Andy Warhol was an artist who commented of every aspect of that time American life but really global life. And what he does here is he uses a very cruel image of a car crash and makes it into a monumental history painting like 'Guernica' by Picasso or 'The Raft of Medusa' by Gericault. It's about human nature that sometimes fails, but in its failing expresses also beauty."

He adds: "As you stay away, you see a cascading black imagery of the car crash juxtaposed with the real empty reflective panel on the right and what people have said many times is when they die they see white light. It's that kind of painting."

Sotheby's says the global art market is thriving, but while art is a good investment Meyer say's these aren't the sort of paintings that will be stored until they increase in value.

He says: "I have in my whole career never been able to sell a masterpiece of this calibre to somebody who just bought it for investment. All of them end up on the wall and people live with them, because you won't spend this amount of money on a object that you don't emotionally relate to. If you want to then invest you by real estate."

Warhol fans will be spoilt, the gallery has his icons including actress Elizabeth Taylor and the Statue of Liberty

The sale is a glitzy event.

As well as the modern and contemporary artworks like Juan Munoz's Conversation Piece V, there a lot here that alludes to the world of pop like Ornamental Despair, which was painted for Joy Division's Ian Curtis.

The auction will also launch another of it's 'RED' sales set up by rock star Bono in collaboration with designers Sir Jonathan Ive and Marc Newson to raise cash to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

The sale contains the most unusual items like this pair of Christian Louboutin boots.

There's also a Dom Perignon Oenotheque 1966 Magnum in Custom red cooler and a suitcase set by Ive and Newson.

Deputy Chairman Oliver Barker says: "The pinnacle, if you like, is the collaboration between Jony and Marc because these are really the sort of Michelangelo and Donatello of their particular moment. And they've built a desk together, which is extraordinary, it's a collaborative piece that's unique in the world there's only one of one as it were. The other one is a Leica camera that they've built together literally from the ground upwards. Which, I think they spent something like two-hundred-thousand man hours sort of working on and putting into research and development and it's an exceptional work."

Among the most striking works here are Zhang Xiaogang's Bloodline: Sister and Brother.

It shows the woman in a traditional Chairman Mao suit while her brother is taking chances with a western image topped off by the red tie.

The painting is next to a portrait of Mao by Yan Pei-Ming.

One of the most famous of the Chinese artworks here is Zeng Fanzhi's Mask Series 26.

They are all loaded with political comment.

Barker says: "Chinese contemporary art is being taken very on a global level to the extent that the price is now are very, very close to the masters of western late-twentieth century art as well. So, I think that the interesting thing about the marketplace now is that the taste for difficult subject matter is perhaps at a more acceptable level than its been ever before. People want to be challenged, this is not a superficial taste-making moment."

Yan Pei-Ming is the first artist to paint a portrait of Britain's Prince Charles.

The work is expected to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Mimi Foundation Cancer Charity.

As well as the edgy and political works like these the sale contains one of the most celebrated Picasso's.

This is a portrait of the artist's mistress just as she became pregnant.

Sotheby's expert Simon Shaw says: "This is a really important pivotal moment in Picasso's life he meets Marie-Therese in 1927 that's in 1935 it's when Maya's born. But she's really been the muse for the past seven or eight years of his work at this point."

Lichtenstein will also boost cash from the sale, but one of the most celebrated artworks to come under the hammer is Alberto Giacometti's Grand Tete de Diego which has centre stage in the gallery.

It's expected to fetch up to $50 million (US) which Andreas Gursky's panoramic photographs are estimated to fetch million more.

MITCH WINEHOUSE AND RUSSELL BRAND LAUNCH DRUG AND ALCOHOL AWARENESS INITIATIVE FOR SCHOOLS

Mitch Winehouse recalled his struggle with his daughter Amy's addiction, at the launch of a charity initiative to raise awareness of the problem amoung young people.

Russell Brand, a friend of the late singer, joined her father at the launch, in London on Tuesday (12 MARCH 2013)

Launched through the charity foundation set up in the late singer's memory, The Amy Winehouse Foundation's Resilience Programme has been set up with treatment charity Addaction, and aims to tackle the root causes of drug and alcohol problems.

Brand opened up about his own history of substance abuse at the press conference, to illustrate his belief that a non-judemental approach is key to educating young people,

"I think when you're talking to young people about drugs and alcohol what's important is not to moralise about it, or say 'Don't do drugs' or futile impotent messages that don't reach young people, I think it's important just to address the reasons why people drink and take drugs in the first place, whether they're young or old," said the actor. "I remember when I was a kid, the reason drugs first became attractive to me was because I felt kind of lonely, I felt sad. Now I've had access to abstinence based recovery, I know that there's a solution to the initial emotional problem that led me to drink and take drugs in the first place. So that's what I think is great about the Amy Winehouse Foundation."

The Foundation and Addaction say the new drug and alcohol awareness programme for schools will roll out in ten places across England.

A trained team of recovering addicts, supported by professional workers, will share their own experiences to help young people better understand drug and alcohol misuse.

The focus will be on self-esteem, risky behavior and peer pressure.

Amy Winehouse died in July 2011 from accidental alcohol poisoning.

Her father Mitch says working with the Foundation has helped him understand more about the disease of addiction.

"When we were struggling with Amy's illness, I didn't have a clue, I didn't know what I was doing and a lot of the way that I would express myself would be shouting and screaming. Which doesn't help anybody," he said. "You know we have to give people the information, allow them to understand the consequences of their behaviour, and allow them to decide when they stop taking drugs and to stop drinking. They have to make that decision, parents can't make the decision for them."

The late singer is now set to be posthumously honored a part of the new Camden Walk of Fame.

Due to be launched later this year by the London Borough of Camden, the Hollywood inspired Walk will feature discs honoring a range of music artists.

Winehouse confirms the idea has the family's backing - but he would rather be celebrating with a daughter still living.

"Yeah we're involved, it's going great, we have Amy's statue which is going to be unveiled in September, which we're working on at the moment so all of these things are exciting but of course Amy's not here," he said. "I wish we weren't having to think about walks of fame and statues, and things like that, I wish she was here with us. But she's not, so we have to do the best that we can."

STORYLINE

WYCLEF AND VIN DIESEL MEET WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Haitian born musician Wyclef Jean and American actor Vin Diesel met with the President of the Dominican Republic on Sunday (24 Jan 10) in continuing efforts to help the shattered Haitian nation following the devastating earthquake on 12 January.

Both celebrities thanked President Leonel Fernandez for his country''s immediate response to the disaster which has killed an estimated 200-thousand people, displaced many more and reduced much of Haiti to rubble.

Diesel said he been involved in getting shipments of aid into the country, and had witnessed first hand the misery there, visiting the island in the last few days under the request of Fernandez.

The American actor has visited Haiti many times and sponsors a film programme for young Haitians.

Wyclef Jean has been working tirelessly to raise money for the victims, taking part in Friday night''s all-star telethon, "Hope for Haiti Now," which so far has raised 57 (m) million US dollars.

His charity, The Wyclef Jean Foundation Inc., also known as the Yele Haiti Foundation, is one of the groups that will benefit from the evening''s donations.

Jean also thanked US actor and director George Clooney, who helped organize Friday''s event.

BON JOVI, CHARITIES OPEN HUNGER CENTER AT NEW JERSEY SHORE

Musician and philanthropist Jon Bon Jovi joined local charities to help launch an anti-hunger center in a section of the New Jersey shore devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

The Jersey-born rocker and his Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation announced plans Tuesday (14 APRIL 2015) for the B.E.A.T. Center, which stands for Bringing Everyone All Together. The center site is designed as a one-stop facility to help people get food stamps, health care, meals for at-risk children and seniors, and culinary-related job training. It will open later this year in Toms River.

The center also will house a second JBJ Soul Kitchen community restaurant, where diners pay a minimum $10 donation or do volunteer work for their meals. The first one opened in 2011 in Red Bank, New Jersey.

Bon Jovi says Ocean County suffered the worst damage from the October 2012 storm, but has not gotten a proportionate share of aid.

"Ocean County was directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy; it was not a wealthy county to begin with," he said. "At one point or another, 45 percent of households that had kids needed emergency food relief services during the course of the last year. I know people who have been hungry. You'd be shocked to know these hardworking, middle-class people from the tri-state area who after the economic downturn couldn't afford to keep a consistent, nutritious meal on the table."

Toms River was one of the hardest-hit communities during Sandy. Many homes and businesses and even the main road through town still have not been rebuilt.

Bon Jovi is partnering with the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, The Peoples Pantry and the David Tepper Charitable Foundation to provide $5 million in services to needy families in the B.E.A.T. Center's first year of operation.

The center joins other charitable endeavors undertaken by Bon Jovi, including the construction of 440 units of affordable housing for homeless or low-income families; donations to numerous Sandy relief efforts; and two Soul Kitchen restaurants, including a smaller third one in a firehouse in storm-tossed Union Beach, New Jersey.

"With hunger and homelessness, I realized 10 years ago that this was something we could make a dent in - just a dent - that didn't need a scientist to create the cure," he told the Associated Press. "That we, with a little money and action and then desire, that we could in fact make a dent. We're certainly going to try."

His band, Bon Jovi, has been one of rock and roll's most popular acts for the past 32 years, with hits including "Livin' On A Prayer," "You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Wanted Dead Or Alive."

South African track star Caster Semenya earns praise of Lebron James and discussess receiving Women's Sports Foundation courage award as her fight with IAAF drags on.

South African track star Caster Semenya can add LeBron James to the list of admirers ahead of her showdown with the international track and field governing body.

James watched the world and Olympic 800-meter champion win a race last month in Berlin. She's his fan, and they're both Nike-sponsored athletes.

"You know, in American language they say 'you're dope,'" said a smiling Semenya, who wore James' white and gold Nike shoes with a lion head on the back. "He told me to keep on working hard, I'm a special kid. I was deeply touched."

James is just one of Semenya's global fans, supporting a fight against world track officials that's dragged on nearly a decade.

The IAAF wants to limit the eligibility of female middle-distance runners who have naturally high levels of testosterone. Semenya, who has not often spoken openly about challenges, is taking control of her message, joining Nike sponsored-athletes like James, Colin Kaepernick and Simone Biles in a series of ads.

In the video "I was Born to Do This," Semenya asks: "Will it be easier for you if I wasn't so fast? Will it be simpler for you if I stopped winning? Would you be more comfortable if I was less proud?"

Semenya says her audience is not her critics or competitors.

"It's just to inspire the youth, to be honest," she said. "They see light in me. So they can see a better future."

On Wednesday night, Semenya received the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award from the Women's Sports Foundation and Billie Jean King. Semenya flew 23 hours from Johannesburg, via Dubai, for her first trip to New York.

"Caster is a woman on a mission," King told The Associated Press.

King and the Women's Sports Foundation are supporting Semenya in her latest fight against the IAAF. Females would be required to take hormones to lower their testosterone to compete in international events and the Olympics.

Semenya and Athletics South Africa are challenging the proposal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland. On Tuesday, her hearing got pushed back to February, with the possible start of the IAAF's rule on March 26.

Early in Semenya's career, her improved times and what some competitors considered a masculine appearance drew the attention of the IAAF. Before the 2009 world championships in Berlin, the IAAF made her undergo gender tests and the results were not released. But on the day of the final, it became public she'd been tested. The 18-year-old Semenya won the 800 title despite the distractions.

Then the IAAF stopped Semenya from competing for 11 months while conducting more tests. She was allowed to return in 2010, with no explanation from the governing body.

Semenya says her family deals with the critics based on how she responds.

"You cannot control what other people say. I'm the one who can control that by being me," she said. "By being that kid that they raised. That kid with respect and a sense of humor."

The IAAF wants to lower natural testosterone in female middle-distance runners to a maximum of 5 nanomoles per liter of blood. The governing body argues that naturally high testosterone provides a "competitive advantage." There is no equivalent rule for male athletes.

The previous IAAF maximum of 10 nanos for all females was enacted in 2011 and struck down in 2015 by CAS after Indian sprinter Dutee Chand challenged the rule. The current IAAF attempt seeks to narrow the rule to females who run the 400, 800 and 1,500.

"It is always concerning, as a matter of law, when policies appear to be targeted to limit the participation of a small group of individuals," said Suzanne Goldberg, director of the Center for Gender & Sexuality Law at Columbia University.

Semenya's legal firm Norton Rose Fulbright said in statement in June it is necessary to challenge the IAAF's proposal to "protect the rights of all women." Her lawyers say it violates the IAAF constitution, the Olympic charter and universally recognized human rights.

Growing up playing soccer with the boys in the province of Northern Limpopo, Semenya drew strength from meeting Nelson Mandela on several occasions after winning the 2009 world title.

"The wisdom words he has shared with me, it was about educate yourself to be better," she said. "Education is the key to success. Sports does unite people. It changed other people's lives."

"Treat other people with love and respect. If you can learn that, life is just simple."

A sports science major at the University of Pretoria, she went on to win 800 world titles in 2011 and 2017 and gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Russian runner Mariya Savinova, one of the competitors who publicly criticised Semenya's times and physique, was banned from the sport for doping in 2017. Her 800 gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics was handed to second-place finisher Semenya.

King joined more than 60 athletes who wrote an open letter to the IAAF in July, urging it to rescind the proposed standard. U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe called out sports federations for policing female bodies but "never our male counterparts." She pointed to the competitive advantage of the wingspan of Michael Phelps, not to mention the long legs of Usain Bolt.

Competitive advantages may include the age an athlete starts training, the quality of coaches and facilities, nutrition and other factors.

"Singling out women's testosterone levels from all possible factors that influence athletes' success is not a sensible or just answer," Goldberg said.

The 27-year-old Semenya is married to Violet Raseboya, her longtime partner and former runner, who is setting up a foundation to benefit youth in South Africa.

Semenya plans to defend her 800 world title in September in Doha, Qatar, and her Olympic gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games. The long-term goal is to break the 800 world record of 1:53.28 set in 1983. She's about 1 second off the mark.

In the meantime, she'll keep training until her future is decided by the court.

"South Africa is a rainbow nation for me," said Semenya, who carried the flag at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. "I stand for my country, I stand for my people, I stand for people who love and support me. They appreciate me for who I am. It's fantastic."

Ahead of the launch of New York Fashion Week on Friday, women's magazine InStyle hosted a night of fashion and glamour in New York City, on Wednesday night.

Actress Kyra Sedgwick and singer Vanessa Carlton were amongst the stars in attendance at the fashion show who took to the red carpet to talk 'style'.

Also there was 'Sex and the City' stylist Patricia Fields, who applauded the event celebrating women and style prowess.

"Sex and the City' affected the world, the way women dressed in a major way, and I'm happy for that. And the way is independence, power, you have good arms, show them. You don't have to put, you don't have to dress like a man if you have to be in a corporate world. You can use your power. If you have a great body, you don't have to cover it up. Jewellery was on sparkling form in 2014 - one blue diamond sold for USD $23.8 million, and smart devices proved they could be clever - and attractive.

In 2014 jewellery was no longer just about bling. For those on the cutting edge, pieces had to be smart too.

On display at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January was the Zazzie.

Using an app on a smartphone or tablet, it attaches to a ring, necklace or bracelet and can be set to vibrate and flash a pre-programmed image to alert the wearer that that they have a call, text or email.

And since the accompanying jewellery is modular, the same Zazzie can be worn with different pieces.

Modular jewellery took centre stage at this year's INHORGENTA trade fair in Munich.

What started with wearers adding charms to pieces to make them look different, this year developed into a trend for fully transformable jewellery.

This ring by Jorg Heinz can either have a white gold or diamond face that can be changed by a quick click and a twist.

The pendant of this necklace - also by Jorg Heinz - can be turned to reveal different looks.

The star of the Jorg Heinz collection was this 45-thousand euro (USD $56,000) necklace that has a pendant that can be turned to reveal a heart shaped ruby stone.

Even wedding rings went modular this year.

The female ring from this matching set by German jeweller, Gerstner can be bought for the wedding and then memoir rings can be added later to mark, for example, an anniversary or birth of a child.

But diamonds will always be a girl's best friend - and this year they simply had to be blue.

This is 'The Blue' - thought to be the largest flawless vivid blue diamond in the world.

It was auctioned by Christie's in May and fetched a cool �14.1 million (USD $23.8 million).

"It is the largest vivid blue diamond to ever have appeared on the auction market. Over the last 30, 35 years, only 5 vivid blue diamonds over 10 carats have appeared at auction. So this weighing 13.22 carats is an exceptional stone," says David Warren, International Director for Christie's Jewellery Department.

The Blue helped Christie's sell a record breaking USD 154.2 million dollars at it's Geneva spring auction.

Staying blue, but at a slightly less eye-watering price of USD $500,000, this set of necklace, earrings and matching ring is made with blue sky and white diamonds.

The set, by Turkish jewellers, FD Diamond was up for grabs at this year's Istanbul Jewellery Show in October.

Also on display - but not up for sale - was this diamond, gold, sapphire and jade necklace created by Italian brand, Roberto Bravo and inspired by celebrity Russian supermodel, Irina Shayk.

Traditional gold jewellery remained a priority at the Istanbul show.

Turkey is the second largest exporter of gold jewellery after Italy - a fact marked by this extravagant golden bridge that stole the show in Istanbul.

The bridge is designed as a model of the third Bosphorus Bridge named after Yauz Sultan Selim. It weighs a hundred kilos and is made from 24 karat gold.

The Istanbul Gold Refinery says it's worth USD $4 million - but it's not up for sale.

In Israel, diamonds were coloured too, but blue was brushed aside for red - said to be the rarest and most sought after diamond colour of all.

This red cross piece is adorned with 11 red diamonds and has a total weight of 6.91 carats.

It was made by coloured diamond specialists, Seren Diamonds who collected the stones over a period of 8 years. The company say the cross is worth a whooping USD $100 million.

Eden Rachminov is the chairman of the board of advisors of "The Fancy Color Research Foundation," an independent, non-profit organisation formed to promote fair-trade, ethics and transparency across the colour diamond industry.

"It's extremely rare, the fact that you have so many red stones combined in one piece, this is something that you can never find and you don't see it on the market. A very important fact is that many red diamonds that are classified by GIA (Gemological Institute of America) don't always correspond to the red colour, sometimes they look deep pink or they have some kind of an undertone, but all the stones here really look red and the clarity is very high also," he says.

This architectural design was a highlight at this year's India International Jewellery Show in Mumbai.

This Taj Mahal' necklace was created by Indian jewellery brand, Kotia Jewels.

Using gold and mother or pearl to give the look of the marble that's used for the real Taj Mahal, it's priced at USD $25,000 and took about 3 months to make.

There was evidence of more colour trickling into traditional Indian jewellery at this year's show.

Silver and gold were combined and matched with diamonds, emeralds, pearls and an abundance of rubies.

Designers at the show said the trend for more colour came across from Hong Kong. Over there, traders say the demand for coloured diamonds is rocketing.

This 4-carat vivid blue diamond ring on display at the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem fair in June is valued at around USD $ 8 million.

Diamonds also came in yellow .... and were matched with rubies and emeralds.

Long fingered rings, palm bangles and antique jewellery were also high on the Hong Kong agenda this year as the trend among younger buyers took hold for one-of-a-kind pieces, which may have once belonged to royalty or celebrities.

Highlights were a 1920's German 'Van Cleef and Arpel' bracelet, a 'Faberge' brooch from Japan, a French design of a bird dating back to 1780 and an 1870 antique necklace from Russia

"I see a big change now and we have a lot of clients who are in the age range of 30 - 35, young people who are realising, reading a lot and realising the value of antique jewellery, and putting money into it, investing in it," says Ashir Rakyan, a graduate gemologist from Global Gems.

It's not just the young and trendy that are keeping the trade in antique style jewellery alive.

The art of filigrana jewellery dates back thousands of years and still thrives in Sardinia where artisans use the same techniques to hand craft their pieces as their grandfathers did and their grandfathers did before them.

The jewels on this outfit cost more than USD $20,000 - a price many Sardinians are willing to pay for filigrana for weddings, festivals and other special occasions.

In Algeria Berber jewellery is still hand made in villages across the country.

Coral cut into traditional Kabyles style is a must-have for brides wanting to do it the old fashioned way - and many still do.

Wedding brooches can cost anything from USD $1,200 to $12,000.

The bid for Scottish independence this year cast a light on all things highland.
