ROBERT DOWNEY JR.'S SON ARRESTED IN DRUG CASE

Actor Robert Downey, Jr. thanked authorities who arrested his 20-year-old son on Sunday (29 JUNE 2014) on suspicion of cocaine possession and said the family was determined to get him the help he needs.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Valentine said Indio Falconer Downey was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a car he was in was pulled over in West Hollywood.

Valentine says Downey was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, believed to be cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Indio Downey was later released after posting $10,250 (USD) bail and a court date was set for Aug. 29.

Two other people were in the car, but only Downey was arrested.

"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," Robert Downey, Jr., who had a series of high-profile drug-related arrests, wrote in a statement. "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We're grateful to the

Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

Indio Downey appeared in the 2005 movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which starred his father.

SNOOKI'S HUBBY PLEADS GUILTY TO DUI

First he said, "I do." Then he pleaded guilty.

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's husband pleaded guilty on Monday (1 DEC. 2014) in Totowa, New Jersey, to driving under the influence. The charges stem from his arrest on Interstate 80 in August.

The plea came two days after 27-year-old Jionni LaValle and the MTV reality series star got married at a "Great Gatsby" themed wedding.

A Municipal Court official tells NJ.com charges of unsafe lane changes and careless driving were dropped.

LaValle's driver's license was suspended for three months and he was ordered to pay a $614 fine attend classes on the dangers of drinking and driving.

Polizzi and LaValle have two children, ages 2 and 2 months. They live in Morris County, New Jersey.

RAPPERY YOUNG JEEZY SEES WEAPON CHARGE DISMISSED

A felony weapons charge against platinum-selling rapper Young Jeezy has been dismissed after a prosecutor said there wasn't enough evidence to support the case.

Orange County Deputy District Attorney Renee Jones sought the dismissal during a court hearing Thursday (11 DEC. 2014) but declined to elaborate on what new information led to it.

Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, and five others were arrested in August after authorities served a search warrant at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Irvine and found an AK-47.

Police were investigating the death of a man who was shot backstage at a concert Jeezy co-headlined with Wiz Khalifa days earlier at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Jeezy and the other five, who included a tour bus driver and his wife, were never identified as suspects in the killing.

Jeezy and the others each pleaded not guilty to a single count of felony possession of an assault weapon.

The rapper did not attend Thursday's hearing but attacked his arrest and the filing of charges. "I pray this had nothing to do with race, but it definitely had nothing to do with evidence," Jeezy wrote.

He criticized what he called a rush to judgment by the media and police.

"I'm relieved that the truth has ultimately prevailed, and I would like to thank those who have always stood by me including my family and fans," Jeezy wrote.

Jones said the investigation into the shooting death of Eric Johnson, 38, is ongoing.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert C. Gannon granted the dismissal and said he would sign orders allowing Jeezy and his entourage to regain their passports and other property seized from them.

Jeezy's attorney Blair Berk said she was pleased the case was dropped but said the rapper should not have been arrested or charged.

MORGAN FREEMAN PAYS TRIBUTE TO SLAIN GRANDDAUGHTER

Actor Morgan Freeman is mourning the death of his step-granddaughter. She was found stabbed to death Sunday on a Manhattan street.

Police responding to a 911 call at about 3 a.m. found 33-year-old E'dena (eh-DEEH'-nah) Hines lying on the street with multiple stab wounds to the chest. She was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

A 30-year-old man was taken into police custody at the scene - in front of Hines' apartment on West 162nd Street.

Freeman issued a statement saying that "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer."

Hines had studied acting and was involved with teaching urban youth. She is the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife.

No charges have been filed. Police are investigating the stabbing.

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of actor Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter on a Manhattan street.

Lamar Davenport, of New York City, was charged with second-degree murder on Monday, a day after 33-year-old E'dena (eh-DEEH'-nah) Hines was found lying on the street with multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Police say the Davenport was in a relationship with Hines. She was found in front of her apartment building on West 162nd Street and was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

Fashion designer and celebrity stylist L'Wren Scott is dead.

The 49-year-old's body was found in her Manhattan apartment on Monday, hanging from a doorknob.

A law enforcement official says no note was found and there is no sign of foul play.

Scott and Mick Jagger were a longtime couple. A spokesman for the Rolling Stones singer says Jagger is "completely shocked and devastated by the news."

Scott founded her own high-end clothing label in 2006 and recently created a more affordable line for Banana Republic.

As Paris Hilton swaps the party life for a jail sentence, stars enjoying the red carpet lifestyle she leaves behind gave their thoughts on her situation.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Los Angeles just after 11:30 p.m Sunday (0630 GMT Monday) to serve 23 days for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Johnson added some advice for when Hilton leaves jail: "Karma. I mean just go with it."

But the news of Hilton's sentence came as a surprise to Heidi Klum:

"To be honest I don't pay too much attention to all that stuff. I'm not so into the gossip magazines. I don't know I totally lost track of all that stuff. People just told me she was in jail. I didn't even know."

Hilton's lawyer said the heiress was doing well after spending her first night in solitary confinement.

"She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," attorney Richard A. Hutton told reporters Monday after visiting Hilton.

Hilton will spend 23 days in a special unit at the women's facility in Lynwood.

Officers arrested Hilton in Hollywood on Sept. 7. In January, she pleaded no contest to the reckless-driving charge and was sentenced to 36 months of probation, alcohol education and $1,500 (US Dollars) in fines.

She was pulled over by California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15. Officers informed Hilton she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive.

She then was pulled over by sheriff's deputies on Feb. 27, at which time she was charged with violating probation.

Celebrities arrived to the Producer's Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., Saturday (28JAN2017) night as protests sparked around the country in response to President Donald Trump's travel ban.

The executive order bans legal U.S. residents and visaholders from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S. for at least 90 days.

"We support the protests," said John Legend on the red carpet before the PGA ceremony. "We donated to ACLU today and we are grateful that they were in court in Brooklyn defending the rights of immigrants and refugees to come to this country. And we reject Donald Trump's message of fear and hate and we encourage everybody out there to speak out against it. Call your Congress people, support ACLU, support IRC and all those organizations that are speaking out for immigrants and refugees. And we're going to defeat him. He is an enemy of democracy. Legend, who participated in the Women's March along with his wife Chrissy Teigen, said he will do whatever he can to help the protesters.

"Chrissy marched in D.C. I marched at Sundance and we're going to do whatever we can to resist his evil regime," he said.

Legend was on hand to support "La La Land," which he appeared in and served as an executive producer on. The retro musical reaped a record-tying 14 Academy Award nominations and was also vying for top honors at the PGAs.

A protest at John F. Kennedy airport, where 12 refugees were detained Saturday, swelled to more than 2,000 people, including some celebrities. Protesters also converged in Newark, New Jersey, Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, Portland, Oregon, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

"Lion" star and Oscar nominee Dev Patel called the travel ban "heartbreaking."

"I mean it's completely heartbreaking to be honest. I just flew in from India yesterday and to arrive to such devastating news of such a divisive nature, it's terrible. It's heartbreaking," he said.

Trump's order immediately suspended a program that last year resettled to the U.S. roughly 85,000 people displaced by war, political oppression, hunger and religious prejudice.

He indefinitely blocked all those fleeing Syria, where a civil war has displaced millions of people, and imposed a 90-day ban on entry to the U.S. from seven Muslim majority nations.

FEW HUNDRED ATTEND RAPPER'S GANG SUMMIT IN LOS ANGELES

Rapper The Game says he was moved to call together Los Angeles gang members for an anti-violence summit because he wants to help create a safer world for his children.

"I have children and I want (them) to grow up in a better world than the one I can see with my own eyes," said The Game after Sunday's summit in South Los Angeles.

An overflow crowd of several hundred gathered at a community center to hear pleas for peace from current and former gang members, entertainers, activists and preachers from the Nation Of Islam.

"You know too many people want to say we do this now and then change the direction as soon as we do one thing. No. What we do next is we do this again and we continue to do it until everybody gets onboard. You know it's like a bus going through the city, a bus of love and a bus of positivity. We want to keep the doors open. We want everybody to get on the bus. And this love and this positivity that we're preaching and change were about to bring about is free admission. All you got to do is get on the ride with us," The Game said during an interview.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Chief Charlie Beck shook hands with The Game outside the venue in a show of unity. Beck said the meeting was a "great first step" in the right direction toward curbing violence, especially considering the police shootings Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"I'm out here to support a message of anti-violence being put forward by members of the rap community, the hip-hop community, members of the faith community and some very, very significant community leaders. You know all of us recognize that this community, our community, is far too violent and we want to stop the violence, we want to stop the killings and you know then we can talk about some of the other issues. But first we've got to make this a safe community," Beck said.

Three Baton Rouge law enforcement officers investigating a report of a man with an assault rifle were killed Sunday, less than two weeks after a black man was fatally shot by police in the city during a confrontation that sparked nightly protests that reverberated nationwide.

"Of course officers, civilians, any life lost is a major deterioration of us as a people," said The Game of the shooting. "I don't like it and this is why we are here taking initiative and trying to change it. So you know peace and love and prayers go out to those families, but that's a tragedy as well as all lives."

The Game, born Jayceon Terrell Taylor, fought back tears as he recounted the recent shooting death of a former gang member he called Spanky. The pair grew up together in foster care in nearby Compton, he said.

"Me in my foster home, I was the only black dude in my foster home. I grew up with Mexicans only. And you know if a tear falls it's because ... it's because one of the cats that I grew up with in a foster home with, Calvin. His name was Spanky, he was from Playboy Gangster. Straight Mexican. That was more my brother than my own brothers," said The Game to the crowd.

"L.A., this is one of the biggest, best cities in the world. Not just the nation of America, in the world. And from this day out, politicians, mayors, president of the United States, all of them are going to be held accountable, everybody. But before we do that, we've got to hold ourselves accountable as people," said the 36-year-old multi-platinum selling rapper.

The Game put the word out last week on his active Instagram account, inviting leaders of the Crips, Bloods and other street gangs to come together for "Time To Unite: United Hoods + Gangs Nation." Dozens of gang members, some sporting red and blue colors, heeded the call and filed peacefully into the building to hear more than a dozen speakers. The neighborhood a few miles south of downtown Los Angeles has a large black population and has been plagued by random violence.

Aurora Hudson praised the decision to shine a light on "the brutality in our neighborhoods." The 25-year-old came to the meet-up from her home just blocks away and called it a positive experience.

"A lot of times when you look at the media and you look at the news you see different things. You don't see anyone talking about OK how people are uniting against gang violence, but it happens and it is important. And of course it is important for us as black people, they stop killing us - the police. But as well we stop killing each other and that's the important thing too. And if we unite as a group and end gang violence I think we can get a lot more things done in the community as well," said Hudson.

Veteran gang interventionist Alex Sanchez urged unity between Latino and black community members. Radio personality Big Boy, recording artist will.i.am and rappers Shorty, Problem and Bad Lucc were among the entertainers in the crowd. Security was provided by the Nation of Islam and there wasn't a big police presence at the summit.

Men need to have a "much-needed conversation" about their influence on young people and how to serve as better role models, The Game wrote on Instagram, where he has 6.6 million followers.

Earlier this month, The Game and fellow rapper Snoop Dogg led a peaceful march to Los Angeles police headquarters, where they met with the mayor and police chief and urged improved relations between authorities and minority communities.

The rappers are among many activists and celebrities calling for change following the police-related killings of black men nationwide and the shooting deaths of five police officers in Dallas by a lone gunman motivated by racial hatred.

PAPARAZZI PHOTOGRAPHER WHO CALLED POLICE ON HEATHER LOCKLEAR CLAIMS 'CIVIC DUTY'

A photographer who called 911 to report Heather Locklear allegedly driving erratically runs a paparazzi agency and profited from images she took of the actress's subsequent arrest, the woman's attorney said Wednesday (1 OCT 2008).

But Nicholas Tepper, who represents photographer Jill Ishkanian, said in a written statement Wednesday that her phone call to authorities was motivated by "civic duty" and a concern for Locklear's safety.

He also defended Ishkanian's right to then take photos of the arrest, which took place on 27 September 2008.

"The fact she witnessed Ms. Locklear's erratic driving and reported it to the police did not mean she was disqualified from reporting the story, which she in fact did," Tepper wrote.

He said Ishkanian then sold the photos to celebrity gossip site TMZ for $27,000 - but did it through a third party, KM Press Group, because her standing in the industry has been damaged by a lawsuit against her former employer, US Weekly.

In its postings this week, TMZ questioned whether Ishkanian was "up to no good" and claimed she alerted fellow paparazzi to Locklear's impending arrest. TMZ head Harvey Levin said Wednesday that the owner of KM Press Group has repeatedly told him that one of the agency's photographers snapped the photos and that Ishkanian called to tip him off to Locklear's arrest.

Tepper said Ishkanian had been visiting family and friends in the Montecito area when she spotted Locklear's car driving erratically Saturday afternoon, called 911 and was advised by a CHP dispatcher to stop following the car.

But Levin said some of the pictures appear to be taken well before Locklear's arrest, and questioned Tepper's contention that Ishkanian just happened to run into her acting erratically at a market. At least one of the photos shows Locklear coming out of a shop.

Tepper initially said Ishkanian took all the photos after phoning authorities. But when pressed about the image of Locklear appearing to leave a store, he said he wasn't sure about the sequence that the photos were taken in, only that Ishkanian shot them all.

Levin said he did not consider the photos tainted. "Ultimately, these are photographs of an arrest."

The California Highway Patrol, which would not confirm the identity of the 911 caller, said she didn't identify that the driver was Locklear, but said the actress appeared "drunk" in a market. The CHP said in a news release that Locklear showed "obvious impairment," but alcohol has been ruled out.

Santa Barbara County prosecutors will have to decide whether to pursue charges after test results are returned that could show whether Locklear was under the influence of other substances.

CHP Lt. Dane Lobb said Wednesday that Ishkanian's involvement would not change what was going forward as a regular DUI investigation. "We determined (Locklear) was someone who shouldn't be operating a vehicle," he said.

Locklear's attorney, Blair Berk, did not return an e-mail message seeking comment Wednesday evening.

Tepper later said in an interview that Ishkanian also provided authorities with a statement and would testify against Locklear if necessary. He said Ishkanian sold the photos without disclosing that she was the shooter because of her $55 million lawsuit against US Weekly; that suit claims the magazine's employees damaged her career by accusing her of stealing information from company computers.

Federal agents later raided Ishkanian's home and business, but she has never been arrested or charged. Her lawsuit seeks damages for emotional distress, libel, slander, and conspiracy.

Tepper said Wednesday the US Weekly lawsuit has limited her business, claiming others in the industry refuse to use her material. The magazine is appealing a judge's ruling that refused to dismiss several of Ishkanian's claims.

US Weekly said through a spokesman Wednesday night that it had no comment.

After leaving the magazine, Ishkanian helped form Sunset Photo and News, a paparazzi and celebrity reporting agency.

Heather Locklear is a six-time Golden Globe nominated actress, famous for the roles in the American television shows including 'Dynasty' and 'Spin City' .

She was married to Motley Crue band member Tommy Lee until 1993 before divorcing and marrying Richie Sambora, guitarist for Bon Jovi. They divorced in 1997.

She has one daughter with Richie Sambora named Ava Elizabeth.

JAYCEE CHAN LEAVES JAIL

The son of actor Jackie Chan apologised to the public at a news conference on Saturday following his release from a six-month jail sentence for allowing people to use marijuana in his flat.

Jaycee Chan, 32, told reporters that he will "treasure" any second chance he is given in regards to his acting career and promised to "behave" himself.

He said he had "no reason and no excuse" for the behaviour, which led to his arrest in August, alongside Taiwanese actor Ko Kai and others.

"I have corrected my outlook on life and my values," Chan said.

Chan and Ko tested positive for marijuana, and police seized more than 100 grammes (3.5 ounces) of the drug from his Beijing flat.

He could have been sentenced to up to three years, but was shown leniency by the court for admitting the offence.

Chan, whose mother is former Taiwanese actress Lin Feng-jiao, was raised in Los Angeles and has appeared in about 20 films, most of them low-budget Hong Kong and mainland Chinese productions.

Jackie Chan has publicly apologised for his son's drug use and pledged to work with him on his recovery.

The incident was particularly sensitive for him as he is an anti-drugs ambassador in China and a deputy to the national legislature's main consultative body.

Chan's arrest has put his entertainment career in jeopardy, with several Chinese management companies saying they would refuse to employ celebrities caught using drugs.

"As for my acting career, I don't know if I will have the chance (to pursue it) because I don't have the right to tell you," Chan said.

Chan said he was now focusing on spending time with his parents over next week's Lunar New Year holiday.

ASHTON AND KUTCHER IN ISRAEL FOR FUNERAL OF KABBALAH TEACHER

Hollywood couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have attended the funeral of a Kabbalah teacher to the stars in Israel.on Wednesday (18 SEPT. 2013.)

Kutcher and Kunis were dressed, like the other mourners, in white, a symbolic Kabbalah color.

Rabbi Philip Berg founded the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles more than 40 years ago. The center announced he died aged 86 this week.

The centre has grown into an international organization that has drawn celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher and his ex-wife, Demi Moore.

Kutcher wore a baseball cap with a red B on it. He and Kunis wore sunglasses.

Kutcher and Kunis were former co-stars and a fictional couple on the hit sitcom "That '70s Show" before they began dating officially.

Fashion designer Donna Karan also attended the funeral, which was held in Safed, the spiritual center for Kabbalah, and the home of the Jewish mystics who defined it six hundred years ago.

Though Kabbalah is rooted in Judaism, its message has in recent years become popular to people of all beliefs.

The firm's Christopher Tayback last week argued for the charges to be dismissed or for Cosby to be granted a new preliminary hearing to weigh the evidence. The trial judge denied the motion.

Paris Hilton is known for being a fashionista, but it is doubtful even the daring Hilton would want to be seen looking like this.

In honour of Hilton's jail sentence in Los Angeles' Lynwood Correctional Facility, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in New York City has outfitted their Hilton statue in black and white prison jumpsuit.

Many visitors at the famed museum seemed surprised and amused by Hilton's new outfit.

The real-life Hilton had better get used to the jailhouse jumpsuit.

She is expected to serve three weeks for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Celebrities gathered at the Manhattan offices of the brokerage firm Cantor Fitzgerald Wednesday (11 SEPT. 2013) to take part in the firm's annual Charity Day on 9/11.

Among the personalities they came in and signed on to the board set up for participants was Kyle McLachlan. He said while the memory of the September 11 attacks still haunts him, he takes pride in looking at the memorial and the rising One World Trade Center building that replaced the fallen twin towers.

"It's like you said before, people get emotional. It's like every time I watch - I hear the Star-Spangled Banner or I watch the flag, even at a football game when they unfurl it there's a sense of pride that comes through and I think the memorial is just the indomitable spirit of not only America but just the ability of humans just to rise and get past a terrible tragedy like that and move forward."

The Cantor Fitzgerald Charity Day in Manhattan is an annual fundraiser to commemorate the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald brokerage employees who lost their lives in the attacks. Celebrities come to the brokerage now in Midtown Manhattan and talk on the phone with people who want to make a trade via the firm and get them to donate to their personal charities. Cantor Fitzgerald says that 100-percent of the money raised during the day goes to more than 100 charities worldwide.

Former athlete and current star of the reality TV show "Keeping up with the Kardashians" star Bruce Jenner said he came to represent his whole Jenner/Kardashian clan. "This morning I was listening to the news at - I think it's 8:46 - whatever it is - that's when the first plane hit. I think everybody in the whole country takes that moment just to remember what happened and my family's been very charitable throughout the year in support of so many different charities that coming here in supporting this one's really important to everybody - not just me."

For some, the attacks remain very present despite the passage of 12 years. Magician David Blaine spoke of the horror he remembers unfolding before him real time as he looked out the window of his Manhattan apartment in time to see the first plane hit the twin towers. "I have a telescope so I literally - when it first happened we didn't know it was a terrorist attack and I was watching and I was seeing people jumping out, which was just awful: couples holding hands and jumping out and that's why I think this is an amazing charity because they really do give all of the money to the cause."

"Law and Order" star Kathryn Erbe broke into tears as she talked of seeing the World Trade Center memorial lights brighten up the sky. "Where I live in Brooklyn when I walk out my door to walk my dogs at night before I go to bed I can see the memorial - those lights, which I feel, (starts to cry), is one of the most beautiful memorials there is. Sorry, it's really emotional. It's very, very emotional and so I find myself just saying prayers for many days leading up to this day and it was just such a sad time, just a horribly tragic thing at and yet I also remember how we came together as a city."

Cantor Fitzgerald says to date, Charity Day has raised about $89-million dollars around the world.

POLICE SEARCH CHRIS BROWN'S HOME IN LA

Singer Chris Brown came out of his Los Angeles home peacefully Tuesday (30 August) after an hourslong standoff with police who responded to a woman's call for help.

Police Lt. Chris Ramirez said several people were escorted from the residence after a search warrant was served.

He said no arrests had been made and everyone has been cooperative.

Police said the woman who made the call for help about 3 a.m. was not inside the hilltop estate in the San Fernando Valley. Ramirez did not identify the woman or elaborate on the assistance she needed. He did not know if she was injured.

Brown's attorney Mark Geragos arrived at the home shortly before the warrant was served.

Earlier, Brown posted several videos to social media declaring his innocence. The singer has been in repeated legal trouble since his felony conviction in the 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.

CLOONEY TO HELM FILM ABOUT HACKING SCANDAL

Sony Pictures announced Wednesday (3 SEPT. 2014) that George Clooney will co-produce and direct the film version of "Hack Attack," reporter Nick Davies' book about the British phone hacking scandal.

Clooney said in a statement the account has "all the elements, lying, corruption, blackmail, at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London."

Clooney, who is the son of a journalist, called Davies "a brave and stubborn reporter" and said it was "an honor to put his book to film."

Davies investigated Rupert Murdock's News Corp. and subsidiary News International for more than six years. His book details widespread hacking of voice mail of public officials, celebrities and ordinary citizens.

The scandal drew widespread attention and sent tremors through British politics.

The movie starts shooting next year.
