The FBI (US Federal Bureau of Investigation) said on Friday that the case of the suspected child predator who worked in US schools around the world is certainly one of the most prolific suspected sexual predators the agency had pursued.

William Vahey, 64, committed suicide on March 21 in Luverne, Minnesota, two days after US agents filed for a warrant to search his computer thumb drive.

The FBI said the device contained pornographic images of at least 90 boys, aged 12 to 14, who appeared to be drugged and unconscious.

"The most important thing for us is to reach out to potential victims in this case, to give them a way to contact us confidentially, and to offer them assistance if needed, said FBI Special Agent Shauna Dunlap.

"Certainly, we're going to continue on with the ongoing investigation. Just because the suspect chose to not face justice doesn't mean the FBI's going to stop seeking justice," Dunlap also said.

The FBI has asked for international help to find victims of Vahey, who worked at 10 international schools around the world over four decades.

A British private school said on Thursday that images of between 50 and 60 of its students were found on the computer drive.

The FBI said the photos were dated from 2008 or after, but that Vahey may have abused children for decades.

In a statement, the FBI said Vahey had confessed to an administrator at his most recent school in Nicaragua that he was molested as a child and had preyed on boys his entire life, giving them sleeping pills prior to the molestation.

The agency said Vahey was jailed for child molestation in California in 1969.

The FBI announced on Monday the arrest of a Chinese national in the investigation of a fire set intentionally at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco.

FBI Special Agent in Charge David J. Johnson said Yan Feng, 39, was arrested on Friday after he called police in the San Francisco suburb.

The FBI arranged for his surrender.

The suspect, who has permanent resident status, made his first court appearance on Monday and was held on charges of causing damage to property of a foreign government and arson, Johnson said.

The FBI did not announce an alleged motive, saying the investigation is ongoing.

But Johnson said the FBI does not believe terrorism, politics or civil rights were involved.

"Right now, we're looking at this as purely a criminal matter," he said.

No one was hurt in the New Year's Day blaze that charred a doorway and damaged the lobby of the building.

Consulate workers said surveillance cameras showed a person exit a van with two buckets of gasoline, pour the fuel on the building and ignite the blaze.

The FBI said on Monday they recovered a white mini-van believed to be the one seen in the video.

The FBI said earlier that no bomb-making materials were found.

"It was so important to close this matter quickly so that anybody couldn't make of it more than it was," said Greg Suhr, the San Francisco Police Chief.

"We cherish our relationships with all our consulates here in San Francisco, and want them to know that they are safe."

Consulate spokesman Wang Chuan has condemned the attack and would not speculate on a motive.

In March 2008, a group of people poured flammable liquid on a security gate at the rear of the building and set it on fire. No injuries were reported.

That fire came on the day San Francisco supervisors heard public comment on China's human rights record months prior to the start of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

The issue arose because of the scheduled Olympic torch run through San Francisco.

The FBI said the latest fire was not related to the 2008 blaze.

FBI director James Comey publicly addressed the agency's civil rights investigation into the shooting of Michael Brown in Missouri during a visit to Salt Lake City Tuesday, saying the bureau has sent dozens of agents to Ferguson.

Comey said the FBI has flooded the area, and called for witnesses to speak to federal investigators about the shooting that has sparked massive protests and a national conversation about civil rights and police militarization.

Comey said the FBI has flooded the area, and called for witnesses to speak to federal investigators about the shooting that has sparked massive protests and a national conversation about civil rights and police militarization.

Comey was in Salt Lake City to meet with law enforcement leaders from Utah, Idaho and Montana as part of a tour of the agency's 56 field offices around the country. An alleged MS-13 member who allegedly lured his 19-year-old girlfriend and her toddler son into a New York woods where they were fatally shot in the head because she was "disrespecting" the gang landed on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list Wednesday, authorities said.

Juan Elias Garcia, 21, whose last reported sighting was somewhere in Honduras in 2011, is the fourth person sought by federal authorities in the Long Island killings of 19-year-old Vanessa Argueta and her 2-year-old son Diego Torres, said George Venizelos, the FBI assistant director of the New York field office.

Garcia, a native of El Salvador who authorities said was the first MS-13 gang member to make the bureau's most wanted list, allegedly brought Argueta to the woods of Central Islip, N.Y. in February 2010 after promising to take her to dinner, Venizelos said.

Argueta was accompanied by two other reputed MS-13 members who had received permission from the gang's leader to carry out the killing, Venizelos said.

One of them shot her in the chest and head because of alleged threats made toward Garcia by rival gang members to whom she had ties, according to Venizelos.

Her son was also shot in the head twice - the second time after grasping at Garcia's leg - with the same .22 caliber handgun, he said.

Last October, the Treasury Department designated MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, as an international criminal organization.

It has a strong presence throughout the country, particularly in areas with substantial Salvadoran populations such as Southern California, the District of Columbia and northern Virginia. The gang also is allied with several Mexican drug cartels.

There is a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Garcia's arrest, authorities said, cautioning the public not to take action themselves but instead to call the FBI or local law enforcement.

Garcia also has ties to Nicaragua, Guatemala and Panama, they said.

MS-13 is the largest and most violent street gang on Long Island, with more than a dozen chapters there, said Loretta Lynch, the U.S. Attorney for New York's Eastern District.

Garcia was indicted on seven counts that included murder, murder conspiracy and firearms charges last month, shortly after he turned 21, and lost federal juvenile protection status that had prevented authorities from naming him publicly, Lynch said.

Rene Mendez Mejia, who pleaded guilty to the murders, and Adalberto Ariel Guzman, who was found guilty at trial, are awaiting sentencing, Venizelos said.

Gang leader Heriberto Martinez, who allegedly sanctioned the killings, was charged in connection with the murders and other crimes and has been sentenced to three life terms plus 60 years, he said.

The Rev. Al Sharpton says a report that he spied on New York Mafia figures for the FBI in the 1980s is old news.

Sharpton spoke Tuesday about the story posted Monday on the website The Smoking Gun that said he had recorded conversations with mobsters.

"Nothing new about this story," said Sharpton. "Joe Banner was the one who set up the meeting with this guy Sal. So I've done a lot of things in life some that if I could do again I'd do differently but in this situation I did what was right. I did what I was always raised in the values of a praying mother to do and I did what I tell kids every day all over the country that they should do and that is deal with getting guns and crime out of their community and cooperate with the law."

The website said Sharpton worked with a police-FBI task force. The site posted dozens of pages of documents that it said showed Sharpton's dealings with mob figures.

Sharpton said he went to the FBI when he was threatened by mobsters in the music business.

Said Sharpton: "If I was doing business with James Brown I had no choice but to meet with guys, who would later be alleged, or earlier be alleged, to be mobsters. It wasn't like I was saying 'hey I heard you was with the so-and-so family let's chill together.' It wasn't like that."

He says he cooperated with the FBI but didn't consider himself an informant. He says his lawyers are looking at the documents posted on The Smoking Gun.

"Rats are usually people that were with other rats," said Sharpton. "I was not and am not a rat. Cause I wasn't with the rats. I'm a cat. I chase rats and whether it's a rat in racial profiling or police brutality, or mobsters exploiting black artists, don't get me confused."

Federal officials say 18 current and former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies saw themselves as being "above the law," engaging in corruption and civil rights abuses that included beating inmates and visitors, falsifying reports, and trying to block an FBI probe of the nation's largest jail system.

The charges were announced at a news conference Monday after 16 of the 18 defendants were arrested earlier in the day. At least two are no longer working for the department. The charges are the result of an ongoing investigation by the FBI into allegations of excessive force and other misconduct at the county's jails since at least 2011.

Flanked by some of his top command staff, Sheriff Lee Baca told reporters Monday he was troubled by the charges and called it a sad day for this department.

He said the department would continue to cooperate with the FBI and that deputies charged in the cases and still employed by the department would be relieved of duty and have their pay suspended.

The Sheriff's Department oversees a jail system with more than 18,700 inmates and has a history of abuse allegations dating back to the 1970s.

Among the recent allegations in four grand jury indictments unsealed Monday and a criminal complaint:

_Deputies unlawfully detained and used force on visitors to Men's Central Jail, included detaining and handcuffing the Austrian consul general in one example, and in another, grabbing a man by the neck, forcing his head into a refrigerator, throwing him to the floor and pepper spraying his eyes.

_Deputies also falsified reports to make arrests seem lawful or in another case, struck, kicked and pepper sprayed an inmate and made false reports to have the inmate charged with and prosecuted for assaulting deputies.

_Deputies plotted to impede the FBI by moving an informant in the jails and attempting to intimidate a lead FBI agent outside her house.

Baca said he would accept the outcome of the FBI investigation, but strongly denied criticisms that abuse was rampant in his department or that it was an institutional problem.

The American Civil Liberties Union sued the Sheriff's Department in 2012 claiming the sheriff and his top commanders had condoned violence against inmates. The organization released a report documenting more than 70 cases of misconduct by deputies.

The Citizens' Commission on Jail Violence, in its 2012 report, said deputies used force against inmates even "when there was no threat at all," and referred to "a culture of aggression among some deputies in the jails."

Last month the county announced the appointment of veteran Los Angeles County prosecutor Max Huntsman to head a new office of inspector general that will oversee the Sheriff's Department.
