US Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Friday turned over his long-awaited final report on the contentious Russia investigation that has cast a dark shadow over Donald Trump's presidency, entangled Trump's family and resulted in criminal charges against some of the president's closest associates.

The comprehensive report, still confidential, marks the end of Mueller's probe but sets the stage for big public fights to come.

Associated Press reporter Eric Tucker says the next steps are up to Attorney General William Barr, to Congress and, in all likelihood, federal courts.

Barr is "going to review this report and will decide how much of it to make public. He says he will release something as soon as this weekend that functions as a summary of the central findings of the special counsel."

With no details released at this point, it's not known whether Mueller's report answers the core questions of his investigation: Did Trump's campaign collude with the Kremlin to sway the 2016 presidential election in favor of the celebrity businessman? Kamarack, Senior fellow in the Governance Studies program as well as the Director of the Center for Effective Public Management , said on Tuesday that "The only thing that really seems to remain is whether or not the president himself is guilty of some crimes and do those crimes constitute in the minds of the members of Congress, high crimes and misdemeanors."

US Senior Adviser Kellyanne Conway declared that the result of the Special Counsel's report shows that the White House didn't interfere with the probe,  and "should make people feel good about democracy."

"We're accepting apologies today too," Conway told reporters, adding Trump was in "a great mood."

The report on the Russia investigation is two volumes and 448 pages long including attachments.

The report's first volume details Russian election interference and the second relates to whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice.

"Honestly it's time to move, total exoneration, the president is in a great mood," said Conway.

"I think what's incredibly important here is that democracy and the world's greatest country, greatest Democracy flourishes. You don't need to collude with a foreign government. You don't need to get information from WikiLeaks. You can win elections fairly and squarely."

Mueller found no criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russia government to interfere in the 2016 election.

He did not exonerate Trump on the question of whether he committed obstruction of justice.

STORYLINE:

US House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters that the House Intelligence Committee investigation will go on despite the appointment of a special counsel to examine evidence concerning possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Ryan noted that the professionals in the Justice Department and the professionals in the FBI will provide the administration's investigation, while Congress will work through the evidence as well.

The special counsel, Robert Mueller, will have sweeping powers and the authority to prosecute any crime he uncovered.

"We're accepting apologies today too," Conway told reporters, adding Trump was in "a great mood."

The report on the Russia investigation is two volumes and 448 pages long including attachments.

The report's first volume details Russian election interference and the second relates to whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice.

"Honestly it's time to move, total exoneration, the president is in a great mood," said Conway.
