U.S. President Donald Trump is paying tribute to former First Lady Barbara Bush.

The president made the remarks at the start of a news conference at his Mar-a-Largo estate in Florida with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The issue of upcoming talks with North Korea dominated early the comments made by Trump to reporters.

Trump is also pledging to help free Japanese citizens abducted and held captive by North Korea.

Trump said Wednesday during a joint news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that he's pushing to reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries and remove barriers to U.S. exports.

In his remarks, Abe said there should be "no reward" given to North Korea just because the reclusive country is responding to dialogue over its development of nuclear weapons.

Abe said that "maximum pressure should be maintained."

Abe and Trump are wrapping up two days of meetings at the president's Mar-a-Lago estate.

So now he's asking taxpayers to cover the cost of his vanity wall when in fact he would be taking money from very important projects like drug interdiction, police enforcement, to do this border wall and we can't stand for that. So that's why we sued to stop him from his unconstitutional overreach."

President Donald Trump said Thursday that his administration is giving China "a two week reprieve" on the tariff hikes "in honor of President Xi."

Trump made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday, saying as a gesture of "goodwill," the U.S. agreed to a two-week delay in a planned increase in tariffs on some Chinese imports.

The moves could indicate that both sides are settling in for an extended conflict even as they prepare for talks in Washington aimed at ending the dispute that threatens global economic growth.

Trump also said he is not going to be asking Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to take on the duties of former national security adviser John Bolton, who was ousted on Tuesday.

Trump said 15 people want the now-vacant national security adviser position. He said it's a "great job" because "it's a lot of fun to work with Donald Trump."

There was talk that Pompeo might become both the top U.S. diplomat and the president's national security adviser - an arrangement that Henry Kissinger had with former President Richard Nixon.

But Trump said on Thursday that both he and Pompeo like having a third person involved in national security discussions. He's expected to make his pick next week.

The president also said he does not believe reports that Israel may have been spying on the U.S.

Uncorroborated reports surfaced this week that Israel may have planted surveillance devices near the White House.

Trump said he "would find that hard to believe" and touted his "great" relationship with Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"Anything's possible but I don't believe it," Trump said. Netanyahu has denied the reports.
