A top adviser to Donald Trump says his daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner, would be the most likely family members to have official staff roles.

Kellyanne Conway said Thursday that any of the president-elect's adult children who work in the administration would separate from their father's business empire.

Trump's transition aides say lawyers are working to untangle Trump and his family from their business empire after criticism that failing to do anything short of creating a blind trust would expose them to conflict of interest investigations and lawsuits.

President-elect Trump met with Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, Peter King on Thursday as well as a group from the US Conference of Mayors.

China said Monday that it had "serious concern" about President-elect Donald Trump's most recent comments about Taiwan, and warned that any changes to how America deals with the self-governing island could damage diplomatic ties between Washington and Beijing.

China's comments came a day after Trump said in a television interview that he didn't feel "bound by a One-China policy."

Bonnie Glaser, an expert on Chinese foreign policy who works for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said China has shown restraint in responding to Trump's comments.

"They're trying to not overreact because Trump is not yet president and I think that they hope that he can walk back some of these statements," Glaser said.

Since recognising the People's Republic of China in 1979, the U.S. has adhered to the One-China policy, recognising Beijing as the capital of China and maintaining only unofficial relations with Taiwan.

American law, however, requires the U.S. to ensure that Taiwan has the means to defend itself and to treat all threats to the island as matters of serious concern.

China split from Taiwan amid civil war in 1949 and continues to regard the island as a breakaway province to be reunified with the mainland, by force if necessary.

Beijing was already angered by Trump's December 2 phone call with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, the first time an American president or president-elect has publicly spoken to a Taiwanese leader in nearly four decades.

China considers any reference to a separate Taiwanese head of state to be a grave insult.

State spokesman Mark Toner said in response to comments made by Iran's president that he would prevent the next US president from "ripping up" the Iran nuclear deal, that it would be "premature" to judge what the Trump administration may or mat not do, but that the current deal is a "good" one and is conveying this to the incoming administration.

On Trump's recent phone call with Taiwan's leader, Toner said the US's policy of a "lack of recognition of Taiwan" remains unchanged, and the US will continue to pursue this policy no matter what administration is in office.

Trump faced blowback from China and others over his telephone conversation last week with the leader of Taiwan, a breach of diplomatic protocol that Trump's campaign described as merely a congratulatory conversation.

Taiwan split from China in 1949, but China still considers the island part of its territory and would consider it unacceptable for the U.S. to recognise Taiwan's leader as a head of state.

US president-elect Donald Trump's transition team continued to meet with supporters and potential cabinet members at Trump Tower in New York on Thursday, including UK politician Nigel Farage.

Former UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage was seen entering the elevators at Trump Tower, but would not answer if he was meeting with Trump.

Billionaire Indian-American businessman Shalabh Kumar said he had a 20 minute meeting with Trump.

Kumar was asked if he wanted to be an ambassador in the Trump administration.

"If I'm asked by Mr. Trump to be of any aid to him in any way I'll look at it," said Kumar.
