The Trump administration is applauding the January jobs reports.

This comes as the President signs executive order taking aim at Dodd-Frank financial overhaul.

Last month's jobs report, which showed the U.S. economy adding 227,000 jobs and the unemployment rate at 4.8 percent.

The report also says that more Americans started looking for work, although not all of them found jobs immediately.

"Today's report reflects the consumer confidence that the Trump presidency has inspired," said White House press secretay Sean Spicer.

"President Trump campaigned on how to make America work again. Even before he took office, the markets knew he would deliver on that promise."

President Donald Trump also signed an executive order that will direct the Treasury secretary to review the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial overhaul.

It's Trump's first step at scaling back regulations on financial services.

Trump has called the law a "disaster" and said it failed to address some of the causes of the 2008-2009 financial crisis.

House Speaker Paul Ryan dismissed President Donald Trump's plan to revoke security clearances from top former national security officials as just a mild form of "trolling," rather than a serious attack on dissent.

The GOP leader shrugged off the White House plan Tuesday, saying, "I think he's trolling people, honestly."

Ryan said the issue of who is able to access security clearances falls within the purview of the executive branch, rather than Congress. He seemed intent on leaving it to the White House to decide. Ryan says, "It's not really in our purview."

He dismissed Trump's threat to revoke the clearances of top former national security officials as simply the president's way of needling his opponents.

"I think he's just trolling people," Ryan said.

The White House on Monday said it was looking into revoking clearances for top former officials who have "politicized" their public service and security clearances by making "baseless accusations" that the Trump administration had improper contact with Russia or was influenced by Russia.

Ryan also responded to a question about President Vladimir Putin's possible visit to Washington this fall, saying he "certainly will not be giving him an invitation to do a joint session (address to Congress.) That's something we reserve for allies."

Ryan also said lawmakers are making the case to President Donald Trump that tariffs are "not the way to go."

The Republican leader told reporters Tuesday, "I've made it pretty clear I don't think tariffs are the right answer."

Ryan's remarks came a couple hours after Trump tweeted that "Tariffs are the greatest!" and threatened to impose additional penalties on U.S. trading partners.

STORYLINE:

Executives from 10 auto companies met with President Donald Trump and cabinet officials on Friday to discuss the administration's plan to reduce gas mileage and pollution requirements enacted during the Obama administration.

The auto industry wants to relax the standards, but not so much that they provoke a legal fight with California, which has power to impose its own stricter tailpipe pollution limits.

Such a fight could bring two mileage standards in the U.S., forcing automakers to engineer and produce two versions of each of their vehicle models, driving up costs.

Scott Pruitt, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) was also at the meeting. He has being investigated by Congressional committees for pricey taxpayer-funded travel.

After months of news reports and announcements of investigations on alleged ethical lapses, White House sources have signaled that President Donald Trump's support for his environmental chief appears to be wavering.

On Friday, however, when questioned by a reporter if he still has confidence in Pruitt, Trump replied, "Yes, I do."

He didn't respond to a follow-up question on whether Pruitt would remain in his job.

President Donald Trump is directing the administration to investigate whether steel imports are jeopardizing U.S. national security.

In the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump signed a memo ordering the investigation while surrounded by executives from U.S. steel-makers.

A 1960s trade law gives the president authority to restrict imports if they are determined to be harmful to U.S. security interests.

The law requires that the investigation be concluded within 270 days.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross says the timeline will be expedited.

Automotive executives Tuesday praised President Donald Trump, after holding a morning meeting with him in the White House, for his focus on growing jobs and investment in their industry.

Speaking to reporters after, Ford Motor Co. chief executive Mark Fields also welcomed the president's decision to withdraw from the TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) trade agreement.

"We've been very vocal, both as an industry and as a company, and we've repeatedly said that the mother of all trade barriers is currency manipulation and TPP failed in meaningfully dealing with that and we appreciate the president's courage to walk away from a bad trade deal, " Fields said.

General Motors chief executive Mary Barra said there was "a huge opportunity working together as an industry with government, " to improve job creation, safety and the environment.

Trump told his guests Tuesday at the White House that he's looking to ease regulations to help auto companies and any other businesses wishing to do business in the U.S..

President Donald Trump will hold meetings with a long list of world leaders during his trip to Argentina for the G-20 later this week, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and China's Xi Jinping.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the trip an opportunity for the president to cement relations with other world leaders and advance a global economic system based on "free, fair and reciprocal trade."

Sanders made the comments at a White House press briefing Tuesday, the first since October.

Sanders also said she is unaware of any conversations about a potential pardon for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Prosecutors with special counsel Robert Mueller's office accused Manafort on Monday of lying to them and said he had violated a plea agreement struck in September.

Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani has previously suggested Manafort and others could be eligible for pardons at the end of Mueller's Russia investigation.

Regarding the use of tear gas against Central American migrants in Mexico over the weekend, Sanders defended the action of U.S. border agents, saying the White House "would never want children to be in harm's way in any capacity whatsoever."  But she added, that's why the administration continues to "encourage people to follow the law and go to ports of entry."

Sanders said law enforcement used "appropriate non-lethal force to protect themselves."

The press secretary also defended President Donald Trump's comments that he doesn't believe a key finding of a climate change report issued by his own administration, insisting the report "is based on the most extreme model scenario which contradicts long established trends."

Sanders went on to say that modeling the climate "is an extremely complicated science that is never exact."  She said Trump and the US are continuing to lead the world "on what matters most in this process and that's on having clean air, clean water."

And let's also not forget that this isn't the first time that non-lethal force like this has been used. In fact, tear gas was used on average of once a month during the Obama administration for very similar circumstances. In fact they were actually for far less circumstances because they didn't have the same numbers in the mass rush that we're seeing in this caravan take place. Certainly no one wants women or children or any individuals to have this happen, which is why we've encouraged them to actually follow the law and go to ports of entry."

"The president is certainly leading on what matters most in this process and that's on having clean air, clean water. In fact, the United States continues to be a leader on that front. Even Obama's undersecretary for science didn't believe the radical conclusions of the report that was released and you have to look at the fact that this report is based on the most extreme model scenario which contradicts long established trends. Modeling the climate is an extremely complicated science that is never exact. The biggest thing that we can do is focus on how to make sure we have the cleanest air, the cleanest water, and the president is certainly doing that and certainly leaning on that front."
