The Trump administration is applauding the January jobs reports.

This comes as the President signs executive order taking aim at Dodd-Frank financial overhaul.

Last month's jobs report, which showed the U.S. economy adding 227,000 jobs and the unemployment rate at 4.8 percent.

The report also says that more Americans started looking for work, although not all of them found jobs immediately.

"Today's report reflects the consumer confidence that the Trump presidency has inspired," said White House press secretay Sean Spicer.

"President Trump campaigned on how to make America work again. Even before he took office, the markets knew he would deliver on that promise."

President Donald Trump also signed an executive order that will direct the Treasury secretary to review the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial overhaul.

It's Trump's first step at scaling back regulations on financial services.

Trump has called the law a "disaster" and said it failed to address some of the causes of the 2008-2009 financial crisis.

STORYLINE:

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said on Wednesday that the US administration is "doing the prudent thing" by conducting a 90-day interagency review of the Iran nuclear deal to make sure Iran is living up to its side of the agreement.

"Part of this is to get the entire team to look at it the next 90 days, review that is required under the deal," Spicer said. "So we will have recommendations presented to the president on where the deal stands and how to act further."

The Trump administration has notified Congress that Iran is complying with the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated by former President Barack Obama, and says the U.S. has extended the sanctions relief given to the Islamic republic in exchange for curbs on its atomic program.

However, in a letter sent late Tuesday to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the administration has undertaken a full review of the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The certification of Iran's compliance, which must be sent to Congress every 90 days, is the first issued by the Trump administration.

The deadline for this certification was midnight.

As a candidate in the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump was an outspoken critic of the deal but had offered conflicting opinions on whether he would try to scrap it, modify it or keep it in place with more strenuous enforcement.

Tuesday's determination suggested that while Trump agreed with findings by the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, that Iran is keeping to its end of the bargain, he is looking for another way to ratchet up pressure on Tehran.

Spicer also told reporters at the briefing that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was scheduled to visit Washington early in May and hold talks with Trump.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has defended President Donald Trump's "America First" foreign policy, saying the president is "not afraid to try diplomatic tactics where the old ones were simply not getting the outcomes that America needs and deserves."

Pompeo was speaking at a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) gathering in Orlando, Florida on Monday.

Pompeo said the U.S. is maintaining pressure on North Korea while "keeping an outstretched hand for diplomacy."

He also got a laugh when he said he thinks that he's spent more time with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un than any other American, "now surpassing Dennis Rodman."

Pompeo also announced the U.S. is imposing sanctions on Zhuhai Zhenrong Limited and its chief executive for violating restrictions on Iran's oil industry.

The U.S. sanctions are part of the Trump administration's effort to increase pressure on Iran by starving its economy.

Oil exports are Iran's largest source of foreign income and the U.S. campaign has raised tensions between the two countries.

China has continued to import Iranian oil as other countries have stopped out of fear of U.S. penalties.

Pompeo also insisted that "America First does not mean America alone."

Despite tensions between the U.S. and traditional allies over NATO funding, the Iran nuclear deal and international trade, he said that relations are strong between the U.S. and allies in Eastern Europe, the Persian Gulf and the Pacific region.  

And he said U.S. relations with Israel were "unequalled."

He also promised that the administration would keep as a top priority getting the remains of any fallen soldiers returned to the U.S.

Finally, Pompeo briefly touched on the administration's effort to protect U.S. service personnel from prosecution by the International Criminal Court.

Earlier this year, Pompeo announced the U.S. would repeal or deny visas to any ICC staff trying to investigate Americans in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

"This administration has moved heaven and earth to prevent them from wrongfully prosecuting anyone in this room, or anyone other who has served in the United States armed forces," he said.

The report also says that more Americans started looking for work, although not all of them found jobs immediately.

Trump also signed an executive order that will direct the Treasury secretary to review the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial overhaul.

It's Trump's first step at scaling back regulations on financial services.

President Donald Trump is directing the administration to investigate whether steel imports are jeopardizing U.S. national security.

In the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump signed a memo ordering the investigation while surrounded by executives from U.S. steel-makers.

A 1960s trade law gives the president authority to restrict imports if they are determined to be harmful to U.S. security interests.

The law requires that the investigation be concluded within 270 days.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross says the timeline will be expedited.

U.S. prominence in the steel industry has been slipping for decades.

According to the Belgium-based World Steel Association, American-made steel once accounted for roughly 20 percent of global production, but had slipped to less than 5 percent by 2015.

US President Donald Trump is telling a group of community bankers that he will roll back regulations imposed on their industry after the nation's 2008 financial crisis.

Trump addressed the Independent Community Bankers Association at the White House on Monday.

The bankers all wore Trump inspired red baseball caps that say, "Make Community Banking Great Again!"

Trump said the current law, known as the Dodd-Frank Act, is "damaging" and his administration is working to reform it.

He says his friends who are community bankers "have gone through hell" because of stringent regulations.

The 2010 Dodd-Frank law clamped down on certain banking practices and expanded consumer protections to try to prevent a repeat of the 2008 financial meltdown

The US housing industry is waiting to see how a Donald Trump presidency will shape the industry's fortunes.

In the celebrity enclave of Los Angeles, demand for luxury homes is running hot and the industry remains optimistic.

Real estate analysts are hoping Trump's business background will boost housing market sentiment.

STORY-LINE:

Luxury houses here are in hot demand, especially for their million dollar views.

Estate agents say the market has shown strong signs of improvement since the November election won by Donald Trump.

There's optimism among some in the industry that a Trump presidency could be good for the real estate market because of his business background.

While the president-elect has given no specifics about policy, he has indicated that he might decrease regulations on housing construction and that could lead to improvements for supply and inventory shortages.

No matter what changes come, top luxury realtors in Los Angeles predict the market will remain robust and expect even more improvement.

"We're always going to be consistent which means we're always going to be doing well in the sales," says Karen Misraje, President, Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors.

"Now, if the new administration changes the tax laws and we happen to bring in 5 trillion dollars of offshore profits, corporate offshore profits, that's going to bring the money that needs the infrastructure of this country which will then means jobs, people making money, more taxes are earned and that's good. OK, so yes they remain to be seen but the first thing I did when he was elected is I went to a financial station at 2 o'clock in the morning and the stock market was down during the day of the election but at 2 o'clock in the morning the market was up."

Misraje says in LA the only problem is a shortage of houses to sell because of increased US and worldwide demand. That results in higher prices and multiple competing bids for luxury homes.

Research by the leading online real estate marketplace Zillow shows the LA luxury market remaining strong in 2017.

It predicts that home values will increase by between four and five percent this year.

Chip Ahlswede, CEO of the Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors, says while there is still some uncertainty, realtors remain confident for the future.

"The feeling is good. People are confident in this market. They see a lot of really fast sales. They see that prices are increasing. They don't see them outpacing people's incomes. They're not in a situation where people are over leveraging themselves. All in all people feel very good about this market," says Ahlswede.

Overall in the USA, economists predict mortgage rates will continue to climb in 2017 which could be challenging for some home buyers.

Analysts from Realtor.com, the official site of the National Association of Realtors, say they expect LA to record the second strongest growth after Phoenix, Arizona.

The association says the current number of homes on the market in LA is insufficient to meet the demand, even though supply is increasing.

David Kramer, Executive Vice President of boutique agent Hilton and Highland, says luxury sales increased once Trump was voted in.

His firm is selling this home on Swallow Drive, in the Hollywood Hills for just under US$17 million.

The 7 bedroom, 8 bathroom home has ocean and mountain views and has luxury fixtures and fittings.

Kramer says he expects the house will sell quickly in today's strong luxury market.

"Before the election there was a kind of collective holding of everyone's breath. Kind of a 'we're not sure what's going to happen'. I think there was unpredictability about the future. What's going to happen with tax laws, what's going to happen internationally and as we kind of saw with the stock market, there was a collective sigh and business kind of got back to normal. If anything there was kind of a pent up demand from people not buying homes and all of a sudden we just saw this tremendous increase of volume. For example, the three months preceding the election, we had about $60 million dollars in sales, that's in four areas of the West Side, afterward we had $211 million dollars in sale."

Grant Linscott, a realtor at Keller Williams Reality which services Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Belair and Holmby Hills says many people waited until after the election to act.

"People were wait and see for about a week afterwards. There was that knee jerk reaction. Now people are tired of waiting. High end buyers, I saw a 19 million dollar buyer just go into escrow very excitedly. His words. He was tired of waiting."

Sacha Radford, Director of the Residential Estates Division at The Agency, another luxury realtor, says there has been no market slowdown.

She says luxury sales have remained strong before and after the election.

One of her latest listings is this property at Sierra Alta Way in the Hollywood Hills above the famed Sunset Strip.

It has 5 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a 'man cave' and a viewing garage across 13,820 square feet. It is priced at US$ 18.8 million.

"Well LA has become the trendiest most glamorous city to invest in. So we have buyers form all over the world looking to live here. With globalization and the advancement of technology, every business can operate in LA. You don't need to be in London or New York specifically if you want to do business, you can go to the beach here and then go home and do a Skype meeting from your beautiful hillside estate and so we really didn't feel an impact from the election. In fact we saw more sales between summer fall and winter then we did the previous year," says Radford.

While much of the US is still waiting to see how a Trump presidency will play out in regards to housing, it seems LA realtors are banking on a bright future ahead.

The US housing industry is waiting to see how a Donald Trump presidency will shape the industry's fortunes.

In the celebrity enclave of Los Angeles, demand for luxury homes is running hot and the industry remains optimistic.

Real estate analysts are hoping Trump's business background will boost housing market sentiment.

Luxury houses here are in hot demand, especially for their million dollar views.

Estate agents say the market has shown strong signs of improvement since the November election won by Donald Trump.

There's optimism among some in the industry that a Trump presidency could be good for the real estate market because of his business background.

While the president-elect has given no specifics about policy, he has indicated that he might decrease regulations on housing construction and that could lead to improvements for supply and inventory shortages.

No matter what changes come, top luxury realtors in Los Angeles predict the market will remain robust and expect even more improvement.

"We're always going to be consistent which means we're always going to be doing well in the sales," says Karen Misraje, President, Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors.

Misraje says in LA the only problem is a shortage of houses to sell because of increased US and worldwide demand. That results in higher prices and multiple competing bids for luxury homes.

Research by the leading online real estate marketplace Zillow shows the LA luxury market remaining strong in 2017.

It predicts that home values will increase by between four and five percent this year.

Chip Ahlswede, CEO of the Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors, says while there is still some uncertainty, realtors remain confident for the future.

"The feeling is good. People are confident in this market. They see a lot of really fast sales. They see that prices are increasing. They don't see them outpacing people's incomes. They're not in a situation where people are over leveraging themselves. All in all people feel very good about this market," says Ahlswede.

Overall in the USA, economists predict mortgage rates will continue to climb in 2017 which could be challenging for some home buyers.

Analysts from Realtor.com, the official site of the National Association of Realtors, say they expect LA to record the second strongest growth after Phoenix, Arizona.

The association says the current number of homes on the market in LA is insufficient to meet the demand, even though supply is increasing.

David Kramer, Executive Vice President of boutique agent Hilton and Highland, says luxury sales increased once Trump was voted in.

His firm is selling this home on Swallow Drive, in the Hollywood Hills for just under US$17 million.

The 7 bedroom, 8 bathroom home has ocean and mountain views and has luxury fixtures and fittings.

Kramer says he expects the house will sell quickly in today's strong luxury market.

Grant Linscott, a realtor at Keller Williams Reality which services Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Belair and Holmby Hills says many people waited until after the election to act.

"People were wait and see for about a week afterwards. There was that knee jerk reaction. Now people are tired of waiting. High end buyers, I saw a 19 million dollar buyer just go into escrow very excitedly. His words. He was tired of waiting."

Sacha Radford, Director of the Residential Estates Division at The Agency, another luxury realtor, says there has been no market slowdown.

She says luxury sales have remained strong before and after the election.

One of her latest listings is this property at Sierra Alta Way in the Hollywood Hills above the famed Sunset Strip.

It has 5 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a 'man cave' and a viewing garage across 13,820 square feet. It is priced at US$ 18.8 million.

Trump addressed the Independent Community Bankers Association at the White House Monday. The bankers all wore Trump inspired red baseball caps that say, "Make Community Banking Great Again!"

The president said the current law, known as the Dodd-Frank Act, is "out of control" and his administration is working to reform it.

He says his friends who are community bankers "have gone through hell" because of stringent regulations.

The 2010 Dodd-Frank law clamped down on certain banking practices and expanded consumer protections to try to prevent a repeat of the 2008 financial meltdown

President Donald Trump is taking his first steps aimed at scaling back financial services regulations, and the Republican-run Congress cast a vote early Friday signaling that it's eager to help.

The president signed an executive order that will direct the Treasury secretary to review a 2010 financial oversight law, which reshaped financial regulation after the 2008-09 financial crisis.

Trump also signed a presidential memorandum Friday that instructs the Labor Department to delay implementing the "fiduciary rule," which was aimed at blocking financial advisers from steering clients toward investments with higher commissions and fees that can eat away at retirement savings.

Dory Rand, a consumer advocate and president of the Woodstock Institute in Chicago, spoke with The Associated Press about impact on consumers.

The rule, which was set to take effect in April, will be delayed for 90 days while it's reviewed.

Critics argue the rule limits retirees' investment choices by forcing asset managers to steer them to the lowest-risk options.

Trump also signed a presidential memorandum that instructs the Labor Department to delay implementing an Obama-era rule that requires financial professionals who charge commissions to put their clients' best interests first when giving advice on retirement investments.

While the financial oversight order won't have any immediate impact, the administration's intent is clear.
