A top adviser to Donald Trump says his daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner, would be the most likely family members to have official staff roles.

Kellyanne Conway said Thursday that any of the president-elect's adult children who work in the administration would separate from their father's business empire.

Trump's transition aides say lawyers are working to untangle Trump and his family from their business empire after criticism that failing to do anything short of creating a blind trust would expose them to conflict of interest investigations and lawsuits.

The president made the remarks at the start of a news conference at his Mar-a-Largo estate in Florida with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Trump is also pledging to help free Japanese citizens abducted and held captive by North Korea.

A few hours ahead of US President Donald Trump's decision on the nuclear deal with Iran, some Iranians are shrugging it off while others are worried.

Trump is set to announce Tuesday whether the US will exit the agreement reached in 2015 between Iran and world powers

At Tehran's international book exhibit, 40-year-old bookkeeper Zahra Kebriaie said it did not matter what Trump was going to announce and believed that Iranians still considered the United States their enemy, regardless of his decision.

Babak Mohammadzadeh, another book fair visitor, expressed concern about what Trump might do with the deal but said Iran has seen worse before and would handle the challenges ahead.

Failure of the nuclear deal will be a challenge specifically for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Iran's economy, which Rouhani promised the deal would bolster, continues to weaken.

Meanwhile, Rouhani himself acknowledged his own inability to stop a court's ban of a popular messaging app that helped fuel nationwide protests at the start of the year.

All the problems suggest Iran's domestic politics may swing back toward hard-liners and further weaken the once-popular president.

"When a president puts all of his eggs in one basket like the nuclear deal which he cannot guarantee its full implementation and can only keep his own side of the bargain, he obviously becomes subject to criticisms and his approval fails.. It seems that since this is his last term in office, his team and his colleagues will not stand a chance in the future presidential elections and even in the upcoming (2019) parliamentary elections," said Hossein Kanani Moghadam, a former commander in Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard and a political analyst.

Some hard-liners have even suggested the country needs a military dictatorship.

If that swing happens, it threatens any further rapprochement with the West at a time with Washington appears more on a course toward confrontation.

The trends are a sharp contrast from hopes among supporters of the nuclear deal on both sides that the accord would a first step toward greater dialogue.

Trump's announcement, set for the 2 p.m. EST (1800 GMT) at the White House, will come after nightfall in Iran.

Iran's 2015 nuclear deal imposed restrictions on the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme in return for the lifting of most of the US and international sanctions against Tehran.'

However, the deal came with time limits and did not address Iran's ballistic missile programme or its regional policies.

Trump has repeatedly pointed at that, while referring to the accord as the "worst deal ever."

However, proponents of the deal have said those time limits were to encourage more discussion with Iran in the future that could grow into addressing those other concerns.

U.S. State Department officials reacted Tuesday to President-elect Donald Trump's willingness to uphold the current Iran nuclear deal as well as his interactions with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.

State spokesman Mark Toner said in response to comments made by Iran's president that he would prevent the next US president from "ripping up" the Iran nuclear deal, that it would be "premature" to judge what the Trump administration may or mat not do, but that the current deal is a "good" one and is conveying this to the incoming administration.

On Trump's recent phone call with Taiwan's leader, Toner said the US's policy of a "lack of recognition of Taiwan" remains unchanged, and the US will continue to pursue this policy no matter what administration is in office.

Trump faced blowback from China and others over his telephone conversation last week with the leader of Taiwan, a breach of diplomatic protocol that Trump's campaign described as merely a congratulatory conversation.

After a stunning victory for President-elect Donald Trump, speculation swirls into what Trump will take on and who will play a role in a Trump White House.

American University Professor Jennifer Lawless made some predictions as to what to expect in a Trump administration as well as possible clues as to what a President Trump could tackle in his first 100 days in office.

Lawless said that Trump surrogates from the 2016 campaign like Former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich could be possible choices as Trump cabinet members.

The White House says Obama called Trump from his residence in the White House early Wednesday to congratulate him on his win. White House spokesman Josh Earnest says the Thursday meeting is to discuss the presidential transition.
