"Well it really started as a strict action film, really. I mean, let me say this, the metaphors were always there, the outline was always there but it really depended on who was telling the story and fortunately we got Doug Liman. In someone else's hands it could have very easily been just an action film, a straightforward action film. But what you see in this one, is that the action is always secondary, it's always behind, it's the backdrop for whatever is going on in the relationship, which usually is some kind of bickering or fighting and it's really well done that way."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Angelina Jolie - with a different take on the origins of the film:

"I think what happened, strangely enough, is that we read the script and it had some action in it and really it was a relationship comedy and then I think Brad and I, being two people that love action and the stunt coordinator knowing him from 'Troy' and me from 'Tomb Raider' , the action scenes suddenly went from three days to three weeks and everything got more competitive and bigger and bigger and bigger, so it turned more into an action movie."

"I am quite proficient with a weapon and so is she., frighteningly so. She's a really good shot, she is."

"There was a few days rehearsal and it was just funny because you know, we can do stunt practice or gun training for days but brought to a dance class was kind of like 'Oh God, it's that day. It's dance class'. But it ended up being very fun and especially because of all the weapons and the story in between it but yeah it was funny."

"Actually freer, in your underwear - less constricting, greater range of movement. I think we had an advantage. I think that's why you see the great fighters, like sumo-wrestlers really need to strip down for agility."

SOUNDBITE (English) Robert Rodriguez: "It was Frank Miller, whose comic graphic novel that it was based on, so Frank, that's why I really wanted him as a co-director because he just knows this world, he created Sin City and all these characters and the visual look, is all from his books and I just thought, it was beyond cinema - take cinema and make a graphic novel out of it and not turn it into a movie. That would just ruin the book. So I really try to use all the technology and all the different tricks I've learned to try and do what Frank does with a pen and ink so simply in his little studio. It too me a lot to try and emulate that."

SOUNDBITE (English) Rosario Dawson: "Well, in some ways actually, I wish I had not seen even a little bit of it and even been a part of it, just so that I could have watched it completely clear of any idea of it but I really am still extremely amazed, profoundly, by how incredible Robert is and what a talent he is for being able to bring this to life the way he has. It really is such a perfect adaptation, that it's mind-boggling that we were in this little room with green screen behind and that's what it ended up looking like. It's magical."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Guy Berryman: "I think it's very difficult when you chose the first single because being the first thing that people hear they automatically attach that first song to the whole album. I think we wanted a particular song that showed a good cross section of the album. It has elements of our previous album, and it also has elements of the direction of which we've gone forward as well. It's a great song and we love it."

2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Guy Berryman: "I think it's a progression as much as the second album was a progression of the first. Listening for different things, being on the road and getting different ideas together." SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Martin: "All of the songs are different. A band like us, it's all about the songs, the original songs. We haven't repeated any of the same songs obviously. Listening broadens our horizons a bit; everything from Willie Nelson to Kraftwerk to Kate Bush. All this stuff just goes into our brains and comes out, we know not how."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Martin (Question: Do you feel pressure to sell more units on this record?): "I think the pressure of sales or awards or anything isn't one to pay much attention to because, just because something sells a lot doesn't mean it's good or bad." SOUNDBITE: (English) Guy Berryman: "We've satisfied ourselves and feel that we've worked as hard as we could and pushed ourselves forward. That is ultimately the most rewarding side of it."

4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Guy Berryman (talking about the songwriting process): "It's usually Chris who starts with a basic song, or a whole song, or a part of an idea and we will sit around, the two of us, or the three of us, or the four of us and we will work on that for a few hours. Over the course of days, or weeks, or years, they'll get worked out." SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Martin: "They'll either make it, or they won't make it. We are not geniuses, you know. We write a lot of songs. We just pick the least bad ones at the end."

5. SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Martin (on dealing with being famous): "Most of the time we are regular anonymous people. It depends where we are and what we are doing. It depends who is following us and who is not following us. Most famous people, 90 percent of famous people, and I don't think we really count ourselves as famous people. Ninety percent of them get around pretty normally."

6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Guy Berryman (on their musical inspiration): "I think so, it's one of the great things about music...is there is so much out there, and there are always things to discover. There is old stuff that you'll hear and you'll never realise how good it was, or how greatly it will affect you, and you stumble upon the avenues and ideas and thoughts. That's something which is great because it's always fresh and there is always something to . . ." SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Martin: " . . . be terrified by. We reached a point last year where we probably weren't listening to enough other music, or old music. I started listening to a lot of Beatles and David Bowie and Kraftwerk and it just sounded so good that it was terrifying. It made us scrap a lot of our own work and push ourselves even harder. I think as much as it is important to compete with everyone that is around at the moment, it is just as important to compete with the greats. We haven't yet put on a Mozart record because that would be too scary."

7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Martin (does being a new father help you write inspirational music?): "Everything in my life inspires me to write music good and bad, and things that happen in our band as well. Something that happens to Guy might inspire lyrics, or something that happens to Jonnie (Jon Buckland). When you have a baby, or you lose a grandparent or a dog, or when you get a new house, or have your car stolen, it all goes in there."

It's been 14 years and everything cannot last forever. 'Destiny Fulfilled' is the title of the album. It's not a coincidence. This is something we thought about. It was really important for us to end this chapter when we were successful still and not because one person wants to go solo or not because we don't like each other or because we are not selling records anymore, but because it has to end at a certain point and we all have different personal things that we want to do and things in our careers that we want to do. But it's really important that we maintain our friendship and still support each other and that's something that is going to happen because this is real and we really are truly friends beyond music."

SOUNDBITE (English) Tim Burton: "Yes that was important for this movie, we did use CG (computer generated images) and it's an important tool and element but what was also important was to, because, the thing I remember from the book is the textural quality of it and also working with kids, we wanted to give as much reality on the set as we possibly could, especially seeing as some of them hadn't done movies before so you know it was important for us to build, you know, the chocolate river and, you know, make it thick so it didn't just look like brown water and build the boat and have real Oompa Loompas, have squirrels, real squirrels because it not only helps the cast it helps the kids and it helps the crew because you get to be in the environment."

I read a lot, and when I eventually called you in UNHCR because I couldn't believe that that many people could be displaced, and I wanted to know what that meant and how that could happen, they, even though it was a crazy strange actress they kind of said alright we will let you see. I didn't want to get in the way and I met these amazing people and I was suddenly in an environment where journalists, and war photographers, and field officers are all working together to help other people. I'm just so happy to be part of the UN and to be a part of this family that are doing good to just help other people. That is what their focus is at the end of the day. And this award, being named after Sergio who I never got the chance to meet but people, kept telling me a few years ago 'oh you have to meet this guy', he is the most, you're going to love him, he is the most amazing person, everybody just can't say enough good things about him. I was so excited to meet him and I never will but every time I look at this I'm going to be reminded of him. If in some tiny way I have the honour of being connected and associated to such a great man I am really happy. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador and actor Angelina Jolie teared up as she spoke at a World Refugee Day event in Washington, D.C.

"Refugees are not numbers.They're not even just refugees. They are mothers, and daughters and fathers and sons," she said.

Jolie and husband Brad Pitt have donated one (m) million US dollars to the UN refugee agency providing aid to hundreds of thousands uprooted by violence in Pakistan.

UNHCR says over 2 (m) million Pakistanis have been driven from their homes this year by fighting between government troops and Taliban militants in the northwest of the country.

Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said refugees were "victims of terror. And they need to be protected."

Jolie has visited refugees and internally displaced people in Pakistan on three missions since becoming goodwill ambassador for the agency in 2001.

The Oscar-winning actress took Pitt with her on one such visit in 2005.

She also commented on climate change: "The threat of climate change, the competition for resources, and ever growing global inequality have created deepening intractable conflicts."

Also at Thursday's event, the UNHCR awarded a refugee from eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Rose Mapendo, who had started her own NGO for victims of conflict, with its US Humanitarian of the Year Award.

In 1998, four years after the Rwandan genocide claimed the lives of nearly one (m) million ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus, the Rwandan Tutsi army invaded the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), triggering another wave of violence against Congolese Tutsis.

According to the UNHCR, Mapendo and her husband, both Tutsis, were living with their seven children in the eastern DRC when the campaign against Tutsis began.

"At that time, I was really angry. And it became to the point was the end of my life," said Mapendo.

She went through a terrifying ordeal and flight before being offered a new home in the United States, where she has become an inspiring advocate of peace and support for refugees.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees says it is grateful for the donation from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. It said Thursday the money will go to alleviating suffering caused by the "most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade."

Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Friday alleged that Zimbabwe's armed forces had taken over diamond fields in the east and killed more than 200 people, forcing children to search for the precious gems and beating villagers who got in the way.

The New York-based organisation said it spoke to more than 100 witnesses - miners, police officers, soldiers and children - for its report entitled "Diamonds in the Rough", which details allegations of abuses by Zimbabwean armed forces in an attempt to control access to the precious gems.

At a news conference in Johannesburg HRW officials called on the Kimberley Process Scheme, the international body that governs the global diamond industry to press Zimbabwe, a participant, to end the illegal trade in Marange diamonds.

The Marange diamond fields were discovered in 2006 - at the height of Zimbabwe's political, economic and humanitarian crisis.

Villagers rushed to the area and began finding diamonds close to the surface.

Mining is now managed by Zimbabwe's Mining Development Corporation under protection of the military.

Zimbabwe's deputy mining minister has denied the HRW allegations and said the presence of the military was to secure the area.

The New York-based Human Rights Watch said its call for a ban on diamonds from the region had received an endorsement from Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

A statement from the couple's foundation was expected later on Friday.

The report also alleges that some of the income from the diamond fields was going to officials of President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party, long accused of trampling on human rights and democracy in the southern African country.

Kenneth Roth, Executive Director, Human Rights Watch, said the mine could be producing 200 (m) million US dollars worth of revenue a month if it were channelled transparently through proper legal channels.

"So we hope that the international community when the government comes cup in hand, begging for assistance, will say 'Well, sure, we'd be happy to help but why don't you first apply your own revenue to the problem?' "Roth said.

The international human rights watchdog is calling on Zimbabwe's coalition government, formed in February, to stop the abuses and prosecute those responsible.

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme was established in 2002 and aims to stem the flow of "blood diamonds" being used to fund fighting across Africa.

Participants are forced to certify the origins of the diamonds being traded.

This assures consumers that by purchasing diamonds they are not financing war and human rights abuses.

Roth said the group was calling for the definition of blood diamonds to be broadened to include gems mined through "repression and violent abuses" by governments.

It is estimated that the diamonds from the Marange diamond fields could be worth 200 (m) million US dollars a month to the cash-strapped country but Zimbabwe's Mining Development Corporation claimed in 2007 that it was made 15 (m) million from gem exports.
